1997 Hyundai Accent gt problems
The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Common 1997 Hyundai Accent gt problems
The Hyundai Accent, produced since 1994, has been a popular choice for commuters due to its fuel efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and overall consistency. However, as with any vehicle, the Accent has had its share of issues throughout the years. While the 1997 Hyundai Accent GT 2-door coupe is the focus of this article, there is limited information available specifically for this model year. Therefore, we will discuss common problems reported for the Hyundai Accent during the 1990s, which may also apply to the 1997 GT model.
- Engine Light On: The most reported problem for the Hyundai Accent, regardless of model year, is the engine light coming on.
- Starting Issues: Some Hyundai Accent owners have reported difficulties starting their vehicles, which could be due to a faulty starter or ignition lock cylinder. This issue might be more prevalent in older Accent models, including the 1997 GT, as the vehicle ages and components wear out.
- Noise from Engine: Noises such as tickling or exhaust sounds can indicate problems with the engine or exhaust system. For the 1997 Hyundai Accent GT, these noises could be related to the more powerful engine introduced in 1996.
- Power Loss: Some Accent owners have reported a loss of power as the vehicle shifts up to highway speed, which could be due to transmission issues or other engine problems. This issue might be more prevalent in the 1997 GT model due to its more powerful engine.
- Reliability and Interior Noise: While not a specific problem, the 1995-99 Hyundai Accent, including the 1997 GT, has been criticized for its reliability and interior noise levels. These issues might be more pronounced in the GT model due to its more powerful engine and sportier suspension.

- Remedy: DEALERS WILL PRESSURE CHECK THE VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK TO DETERMINE IF IT HAS CRACKED. IF IT IS CRACKED, A NEW FUEL TANK WILL BE INSTALLED. A NEW FUEL FILLER CAP THAT DECREASES THE AMOUNT OF VACUUM INSIDE THE FUEL TANK WILL ALSO BE INSTALLED. NOTE: THE 1997-1998 SONATA FUEL TANKS HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED CRACKING. HOWEVER, AT THIS TIME, THE CAUSE FOR THE CRACKING HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. THIS PORTION OF THE CAMPAIGN WILL BEGIN AFTER HYUNDAI HAS DETERMINED THE CAUSE AND CORRECTIVE PROCEDURE.
