Hauling hay and horses has never been easier! I was pleasantly surprised by the power and fuel efficiency of this vehicle. When pulling a small 2-horse slant load trailer with two 1200 lb. horses or a twenty-foot trailer loaded with three round bails of hay, I still get an average of 18 miles per gallon. And when I'm not pulling anything, I get between 21 and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. Impressive!

Except for the cruise control switch that failed early on and the really poor tires that were provided, I have had zero problems with my GMC 3500 long bed Duramax Allison crew cab dually that I purchased in 2005. My GMC has been largely used for hauling trailers, including my 35-foot fifth wheel, a car hauler, and a 20-foot box trailer. The diesel never falters, even on fairly sharp inclines. Compared to Ford or Dodge, the engine remains quite quiet. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

This is my second GM diesel truck and it has been operating flawlessly since delivery. The power and acceleration for a big truck make it fun to drive. I tow a 14000 lb 5th wheel and can pass with ease going over the mountains. The mileage is about 10mpg with the trailer and running 65, without it runs about 18-19 mpg on the highway.

This vehicle has exceeded our expectations. The cabin noise level is lower than most cars I have owned in the last 15 years. The build quality is improved over the 95 GMC that I owned. I tow 10 to 13K pound loads on a daily basis and when hauling horses, I routinely discuss trucks with other guys at horse events. I find that I can out haul them, get slightly better gas mileage and the truck is in the shop less than my Ford F350 friends (one of whom has sold his to buy a Chevy 3500). If you are looking for a reliable work rig, this is the one for you.

It's such a beautiful truck! It feels like you're riding in luxury. The TV/DVD package is perfect for our family of four, and they fit comfortably in the back even on long trips. It's surprisingly good on gas for its size, and it always runs and drives great. We've even used it to pull out a tractor that got buried while plowing the field, and it came right out without any issues. We also used it to pull out a boat hauler that was stuck in a field, and the truck had no problem doing it. This truck is truly amazing!

The vehicle I purchased had some initial issues, including a faulty axle and a leaking radiator. However, the dealership was able to quickly diagnose and repair these issues. Despite the inconvenience, I am confident in the dealership's ability to address any future concerns I may have with the vehicle.

It's unfortunate that GMC seems to be struggling to keep up with Ford these days. I received an email about this issue on 12/29/17, but I'm not sure why. The title remains the same, but the dashboard is now completely non-functional. The speedometer doesn't work, and all the other gauges max out when I start the truck. At least it's still running, though I do have to hand pump the diesel filter to get it started about once a month (and no, it's not a standard maintenance issue). I've had to replace the batteries annually now, as something seems to be draining them when I'm not looking! I did receive a call from customer support about the dealer charge, and they offered to reimburse some of the payment. I would have even considered changing my review if they had followed through, but unfortunately, they disappeared. From the dealer using my truck to tow the owner's horse trailer during maintenance to the more than $3000 I had to put into the electrical system within 3 months, this truck has been a real headache. The instrument panel stopped working, and it cost $900 to fix it, so I just use a GPS for my speedometer. There's also a rattle in the steering due to a design issue that always seems to be going out, and the electric seat positioning clicks 7-8 times before settling into place. Now, the heater/AC blower has stopped working, and it will cost $750 to fix it at PEP Boys. Thanks to YouTube, I can fix the heater myself for only $150 in parts (my friend had the same issue with his Tahoe and had to pay $750). Unfortunately, the heater went out again in a couple of weeks, and I had to replace the resistor again. Either this truck is a lemon, or my favourite GMCs are on their way out of business. As someone in quality management, I wouldn't have allowed anything like this to happen where I work.

I am concerned about the safety of my brand new vehicle, as it has shut off while I was driving. Despite taking it to the dealership twice with only 1200 miles on it, they have been unable to diagnose and fix the issue due to the lack of codes from the computer. The repeated repairs have been frustrating, and I am still without my truck. However, I trust that the dealership will continue to work towards a solution.

The comfort and drivability of the GMC beats the Ford 350. Although I had an '01 F350 which was a great truck, it had some reliability problems and the brakes were not up to the task. Overall, the GMC is much better with towing and the interior is more car-like. I do have a small complaint about the truck, which is the gray steel rims with cheap trim rings. For over $40K, the truck should be outfitted with Ford/Dodge similar rims. I almost went for the Ford again because of this.
