2009 Ford Focus problems
The Ford Focus is a compact car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1999. It was created under Alexander Trotman's Ford 2000 plan, which aimed to globalize model development and sell one compact vehicle worldwide. The original Focus was primarily designed by Ford of Europe's German and British teams. Production of the fourth generation Focus began in 2018 in Germany and China.
Naming
The decision to name the new car the "Ford Focus" was made in early 1998, as Ford's senior management had been planning to keep the "Escort" nameplate for its new generation of small family cars. A last-minute problem arose in July 1998 when a Cologne court, responding to a case brought by the publisher Burda, ordered Ford to avoid the name "Focus" for the cars in the German market since the name was already taken by one of its magazines (Focus). This eleventh-hour dispute was resolved, however, and the car was launched with the name Focus.
First generation (C170; 1998)
Ford of Europe introduced the Focus in 1998 to the European market as a replacement for the Ford Escort. The Focus Mk 1 was awarded the 1999 European Car of the Year award. The project manager for the Ford Focus at Dunton was Rose Mary Farenden.
Ford of North America began marketing the Focus in September 1999 for the 2000 model year, with some changes from the European version. The car was launched as a three-door hatchback, four-door sedan, and five-door wagon; a five-door hatchback debuted in 2001.
In 2002, Ford launched its highest performance version of the Focus, called the Focus RS. It came with a 2.0-litre turbocharged Duratec RS engine, a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential, an AP Racing clutch, and a revolutionary design front suspension strut system called "Revo-knuckle"- as marketed by Ford, Sachs Racing dampers Brembo brakes, 18” O.Z Racing alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and a host of other performance changes, combined with a much more aggressive appearance, and was available only in Ford's Imperial blue. Tickford Engineering won the engineering contract for the research, development and to oversee production of the Mk 1 Focus RS. Tickford made substantial modifications to the base unit, with up to 70% of the base components either updated, re-engineered or completely redesigned. Despite the development being carried out in the United Kingdom, Ford produced the Focus RS in the Saarlouis plant in Germany between 2002 and 2003 making a limited run of 4501 cars only. This original Focus RS was only available in Europe; just under half (2147) of these were sold in the UK.
For decades, in the U.S., small cars like the Focus were seen as a tool to draw in younger buyers looking for a cheap basic transportation and to increase auto makers' fleet average fuel economies to meet U.S. federal standards. Ford was said not to be concerned about losing money on the Focus so the company could sell gas guzzlers for big profits. However, recent sales of new Focuses have been able to maintain lower or overall discounting incentive rates than many competing vehicles in its class. Many industry insiders view cars like the Focus as 'compliance cars' because of their role in helping to bring up the corporate fleet average fuel economy to meet current fuel-economy standards.

Common 2009 Ford Focus problems
The 2009 Ford Focus, like many vehicles in its generation, has a number of common problems that owners have reported. These issues range from mechanical faults to electrical glitches, and can affect the overall performance and reliability of the car.
One of the most common problems with the 2009 Ford Focus is a leaky manual transmission. This issue can lead to a loss of transmission fluid, which can cause the transmission to slip, overheat, or even fail entirely. The leak can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn seals, damaged gaskets, or a cracked transmission case. If left unaddressed, a leaky transmission can cause significant damage to the car's drivetrain, leading to costly repairs.
Another issue that has been reported by owners of the 2009 Ford Focus is a noise from the front wheels. This noise can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn wheel bearings, damaged CV joints, or a faulty brake system. The noise can range from a low hum to a loud grinding sound, and can be more noticeable during turns or at high speeds. If left unaddressed, a noisy front wheel can lead to more serious problems, including a complete failure of the wheel bearing or brake system.
Inoperative remote-control keys are also a common problem with the 2009 Ford Focus. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including a dead battery, a faulty key fob, or a problem with the car's remote entry system. If the key fob is not working, the car may not be able to be locked or unlocked, and the ignition may not be able to be started. This can be a major inconvenience, especially if the car is parked in a public area or if the owner is in a hurry.
Clogged diesel particulate filters (DPFs) are a common problem with the 2009 Ford Focus, particularly on 1.6-litre TDCi models. The DPF is a device that is designed to reduce emissions by trapping soot and other particles in the exhaust system. However, if the DPF becomes clogged, it can cause a variety of problems, including reduced engine performance, increased fuel consumption, and even engine damage. The DPF can become clogged due to a variety of factors, including short trips, frequent stop-and-go driving, or a lack of regular maintenance.
Electrical glitches are also a common problem with the 2009 Ford Focus, including issues with the exterior temperature sensor. This sensor is responsible for measuring the temperature outside the car, and is used to regulate the car's heating and cooling systems. If the sensor is not working properly, it can cause the car's temperature gauge to display incorrect information, and can even cause the car's heating and cooling systems to malfunction.
In addition to these common problems, the 2009 Ford Focus has also been subject to several recalls in Australia. These recalls include issues with the brake booster system, which can cause the brake pedal to become hard and increase stopping distances, and issues with the exhaust heat shield, which can cause the engine to overheat.
In conclusion, the 2009 Ford Focus has a number of common problems that owners have reported, including leaky manual transmissions, noisy front wheels, inoperative remote-control keys, clogged diesel particulate filters, and electrical glitches. While some of these issues can be addressed with simple repairs or maintenance, others may require more extensive repairs or replacement parts. It is important for owners of the 2009 Ford Focus to stay up-to-date with regular maintenance and recalls to ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicle.

This is a great little car! It's an eco-box with a few luxury and sport options, but it's exactly what you need for commuting, running errands, or even as a primary touring vehicle for two. The loaded SES with 17

Hi there! I recently bought my SES 2 doors coupe from a dealer and I'm really enjoying it so far! While I haven't had it for very long, I can tell you that the handling is top notch and the engine is smooth and quiet. It feels like a great evolution from my previous car, a Focus 2000 ZX3. The car comes fully equipped and feels really solid. I highly recommend taking it for a test drive - trust me, it's worth it!

I've had my car for a year now and I really enjoy it. While it's not a speed demon, it has decent power. My car has all the essentials: power windows, locks, A/C, and Sirius satellite radio. I had never had satellite radio before, but now I can't do without it. The trunk is plenty large; I do maintenance work and can fit all my tools in it. The main reason I got this car is for its gas mileage. I can do 60 mph with no air and get upper 40s mpg, although it is mostly a flat drive. As a larger person, I find the car very comfortable. For a factory stereo, it is really good. Overall, I would highly recommend this car to anyone.

I used to own a 2003 Mercury Sable, but I decided to trade it in for a 2009 Focus because the Sable had too many miles and I wanted something that got better gas mileage. I have to say, I am really impressed with the Focus. It has more get-up-and-go than the Sable, rides just as well (if not better), and has just as much trunk space. Plus, it's more fun to drive! The Sync system is also a great feature to have - it's always nice to have that connectivity in a car. I think Ford was really forward-thinking in putting this on their cars. Overall, I don't regret the trade at all. At first, I was worried that the Focus might seem a lot smaller than the Sable, but we didn't lose much.

I bought my SES coupe a year ago and immediately fell in love with it after the test drive. It's been a year and the car has already clocked 40k, but it still drives as smoothly as the day I bought it. The SYNC system is the standout feature of this car, with hands-free Bluetooth and iPod controls that require no voice training. The ambient lighting is a major plus, adding a touch of style to the car. The speakers are the best I've heard in any car, especially with the 8

I am currently saving up for my third set of four new tires within six months. Unfortunately, I have had some trouble with my Ford and have been feeling quite frustrated. Despite seeking help from various sources, I have been given the run around and have not been able to find a solution. I have been told that hitting a pothole may have caused the issue, but I have had two alignments in the past 10 months, so I know that is not the problem. I am concerned for my safety as the car shakes violently and feels unstable. Overall, I have been quite disappointed with my experience and feel taken advantage of.

Although this car was purchased with only 15k miles on it, it unfortunately experienced several issues. On four separate occasions, the car failed to start, with two of those instances being attributed to a faulty fuel pump. One of these incidents occurred on Christmas day, which resulted in an overnight stay at a hotel out of town. Additionally, the car's computer recently malfunctioned, causing further inconvenience. While all repairs were covered under warranty, it was still a frustrating experience. Most recently, the car had difficulty shifting out of park at the grocery store, and is currently being examined by the dealer. Despite these issues, it is important to note that the tires did wear down quickly, requiring a replacement at only 50k miles. Based on these experiences, I have decided not to purchase another Ford car.
