The Dodge Dart is a line of large passenger cars produced by Dodge from the 1959 to 1976 model years in North America, with production extended to later years in various other markets.

Chrysler first used 'Dart' name plates on two Italian styled show cars, in 1956 and 1957, before it became a Dodge model name.

The production Dodge Dart was introduced as a lower-priced full-size model in 1960 and 1961, but became a mid-size car for one model year for 1962, and was then reduced to a compact for two generations, from 1963 to 1976.

The Dart nameplate was resurrected for a Fiat-derived compact car that was introduced in 2012.

Common 2013 Dodge Dart problems

The 2013 Dodge Dart has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to interior accessories, battery failure, and brake system issues.

One of the most common problems is the passenger side sun visor snapping off, even with minimal use. This issue is believed to be caused by a weak plastic tube that holds the visor in place, making it prone to breaking easily.

Battery failure is another common problem for the 2013 Dodge Dart. Many owners have reported having to replace their car's battery twice within two years. The battery often dies abruptly while driving, causing steering and braking issues. The solution to this problem is to replace the battery or alternator.

Brake system problems are also prevalent in the 2013 Dodge Dart. Some owners have reported unusual noises coming from their brakes, but mechanics found no issues with the parts. Chrysler Group LLC issued a recall for the 2013 Darts due to incorrect rear brake calipers, which may cause the parking brakes to malfunction. Some Darts were also outfitted with the wrong rear brake calipers, causing braking issues.

In addition to these problems, the 2013 Dodge Dart has been reported to have transmission issues. According to numerous reports, the transmission is prone to malfunction and generally fails at the worst possible time. The most common fix for this problem is to replace the transmission, which can cost up to $3,420 on average.

The engine is another problematic area for the 2013 Dodge Dart. The engine sometimes stalls during hazardous situations, such as in the middle of an intersection. This issue has been reported to happen frequently, even at low mileage. Some of the problems reported include loss of power, downshifting, engine failure, and dies while turning. The cited fixes for engine issues include updating the PCM software or replacing the engine entirely.

In summary, the 2013 Dodge Dart has several common problems related to interior accessories, battery failure, brake system issues, transmission, and engine. These problems can be costly to fix and may affect the car's overall performance and safety.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-01
  • VIN: 1C3CDFBA5DD
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: My car has an extremely bad rough idle. I’ve had an alignment done, new tires, new spark plugs. I’ve done so much work to this car. I have done some extremely deep research and it is a VERY common issue in the 2013 Dodge dart. One thing I also read, is it could be caused due to all of the ground point nuts being painted over, not creating a strong circuit for the ground. That should be a recall because I cannot physically replace all of those nuts. If that’s not the issue, there needs to be an investigation to figure out why this car feels like it will stall out, or I’m going to lose a tire going 65 on the interstate. Something isn’t right with this car and the dealership needs to diagnose it for free knowing it’s such a common issue! I have a very trusted, fully certified mechanic, he has looked at my car, and he is stumped too. No one can figure this out

  • Summary: The service Transmisson lite came on and then it was flashing gear not available and put in N, R, D. but was stuck in N while i was driving on the interstate at 70MPH, I almost got ran over trying to get off the road. The TCM was already replaced. I had replaced the SDU and still does the same thing. This happens often. The car will sit for a while and then it will do it again. It will also rev up like up press the gas pedal down but not touching it, this will happen while setting or after I put it in drive. The Bluetooth isn't working, it will work if the battery is unplugged but then after a day or 2 it stops. I have replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils and it still losses power occasionally. The back up camera doesn't work sometimes also the air condition and the air will come on but shows that it's off. This car is a piece of garbage, and dealers will just keep selling it even though they know it has a lot of issues that they can't seem to fix. Most of the people in the forums all having the same issues that never get fixed! This car needs a total RECALL.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-06
  • VIN: 1C3CDFCH0DD
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: The TCM needed to be replaced, it would flash service transmission on the dash and then say "shift into neutral and then drive or reverse" when attempting to shift it says "gear not available." There is a recall on other cars for this exact reason but my vin number was not included. It would lock up in the middle of the road or when in park. It endangered not only my life but also any passengers. there were no symptoms prior and it started around June 6th, 2024. After replacing the TCM my car had to go into a full sleep cycle before the message would stop appearing. The vehicle was serviced at Midway Auto in Kearney Nebraska, where they also replaced my shifting cable bushing due to another recall that did affect my vin number at the time that it started displaying the message. The dealership has already replaced the TCM and expects me to pay for it even though this is a well know common issue in these cars, so we'll know in fact that there is its own recall that for some reason does not apply to my specific vehicle and I would like to know why, especially if it is a manufactured defect.

Negative 2013 Dodge Dart car reviews

I purchased my Dart when it was first released and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, at 911 miles, all the lights came on and the engine stopped. I took it to the dealer and they had it for two weeks, but ultimately couldn't fix it and didn't know what the problem was. However, they were able to order me a new Dart, which did take over 10 weeks to arrive. During that time, I was in a rental car. Finally, I received my new Dart and kept it in the garage for the winter. Now that it's back on the road, it was doing well until it reached 6000 miles. At that point, the transmission would overheat and struggle to shift, causing the engine to rev up to high RPMs and thump badly, especially in second and fourth gear. Unfortunately, this means it's back in the shop again. I'm hoping for a quick and easy fix this time around!

In my experience, the car I purchased has been disappointing due to frequent repairs. Over the past 5 years, I have had to replace multiple batteries and radios, among other things.

  3. Wilton Hermiston 2024-11-13

Although this car has some positive features such as good gas mileage, nice appearance, and comfortable ride, it has unfortunately been unreliable. Despite having low mileage, it has required multiple repairs including a replacement turbo and issues with stalling and gear shifting. These problems have greatly impacted my experience as an owner. It is important to note that these issues are specific to my personal experience and may not reflect the overall quality of the car.

I traded my Jeep JK with 57k miles for a vehicle with better gas mileage over a year ago. Although it's a fun and almost sporty little car to drive, and the fuel economy is great, I regret my decision. Unfortunately, when the car needed repairs, the parts always seemed to be on backorder. This resulted in me being in rental cars on and off for over three months in the last sixteen months. When the car runs, it's roomy, exciting to drive, and just plain fun for an economy car. However, even with my Jeep getting half the mileage, it was more reliable and, in hindsight, well worth the extra expense of the gas.

  5. Ford Hill 2024-11-04

My brother bought the car in 2013 and kindly gave it to me a year ago. Unfortunately, within the past year and a half, it has had three transmission problems, and the electronic screen has blacked out multiple times. Additionally, the brakes make a weird chugging noise, and there is now another recall on the brakes. Despite these issues, I have noticed that it is very good on gas. However, it is not reliable enough to go on a trip because something always seems to happen. I have had some negative experiences with the people at Dodge, but I remain hopeful that we can find a solution to these recurring issues.

Positive 2013 Dodge Dart car reviews

I have the Rallye trim with the 1.4L MultiAir and a standard transmission. The styling is amazing and every day it puts a smile on my face. The interior further enhances that smile. The exhaust sound is beautiful and turns some heads. While the engine does suffer some lag, once the turbo spools, it gets going! Everything seems solid and sturdy. The Uconnect system is one of the best! And the best thing about this car is the MPG. It gets a glorious 41 MPGs on the highway!

  2. Bailey Sanford 2024-08-11

I purchased the Dart SXT (Rally) as soon as it was released in the autumn of 2012. It came with all the features I wanted, including Bluetooth, satellite radio, remote start, and fog lights. The Rally trim, with its red exterior and black accents, along with the black/red interior striping, makes the car look very sharp, and it's a lot of fun to drive. The 2.0 Tigershark engine and automatic transmission work very well together. It has been serving me well for over four years with no major mechanical issues. As of 11/06/16, the car is still enjoyable to drive, but it has developed some quirks that I am trying to understand. The security system has a glitch that causes the doors to lock and the horn to sound while the car is parked in my driveway. I had to disconnect the battery a while back to stop the horn from blowing, and the key fob was not able to silence the alarm. After replacing the battery in BOTH key fobs, the problem appeared to be resolved, but the doors still occasionally lock for no apparent reason.

I've been driving my Aero since December 2013 and it's been a great experience. After test driving almost everything in the class, I settled on the Aero manual 6 spd 1.4L turbo because of its price, options, and fuel economy. The car is a blast to drive, with great handling and better than advertised mileage. I've taken it on several long road trips and the seats are comfy, the power is great even on the highway, and it's a real treat to drive on mountain roads. I'm surprised by the C rating here, as I've had nothing but positive experiences with this car. In fact, I recently drove a 2014 Corolla S and couldn't stand it. The Dart has more pickup, better mileage and handling, and more room, all for about 4k less. I now have about 50k on the odometer and have done everything from city driving to long road trips. I received a recall notice from Dodge to replace the clutch master cylinder due to some internal part problem affecting the 2014 model, which I experienced and had fixed. Other than that, the car is still a thrill to drive, gets great highway mileage, usually about 42-43 by dash monitor, which has been +/- 0.5 mpg compared to fuel and miles calculations so generally reliable. I've gotten as high as 46 mpg between LA and San Diego on a drive with no traffic. The car remains a pleasure to drive. The handling and braking are confident and the acceleration on the road with the turbo is both fun and useful. The gearing and the small displacement means you won't be winning any quarter mile races as a start from dead stop is slow, but at speeds when you need power it really shines and literally leaps when you hit the accelerator or downshift. I've rented many cars in the last year that would be considered competitors such as corolla, elantra, sentra. When in those, I wish I was back in my Dart. The Dart seating is more comfortable, the driving experience is much more sporty and satisfying. After getting the master cylinder replaced, the transmission is even more responsive. It took a while to get it in and by the time the issue was showing up. Completely repaired by the recall. I replaced the tires with some quality all-season Kumho Ecsta 4XII tires, which made the handling in tight turns even better. I have kept up with scheduled maintenance such as spark plug replacement, etc. My son now has the car at college, and when I visit, I use the car and want it back. I miss driving this small displacement rally car, which is significant since my regular car is a Charger.

I love this car! Despite a faulty oil change that caused it to catch fire, I had to live without it for about 4 months while it was being repaired. During that time, I drove everything from a Kia Soul to Jeep Cherokees, Ford Fiestas, and a few other mini cars. But when I finally got Didi back, I was overjoyed. She's still going strong with 70,000 miles on her. This car is so underrated, and I'm really sad that Dodge isn't making them anymore. It handles well in the snow (which is important living in New England), whether it's a blizzard or just a light coating. It also handles well in heavy rain, and on sunny days, it hugs the corners well. We even managed to stuff my daughter's oversized bean bag chair into the trunk and drag it to her college. Recently, I moved, and Didi did her part by fitting sporting equipment, china, and furniture into her confines. If, and I do mean IF, Didi shall pass to the junkyard in the sky, I wish I could buy another one because it's a great car for the money!

I bought my Dart in 2014 used and absolutely love it! Although I had some minor problems with it, they were all fixed by the warranty and now it runs smoothly. I do wish the speakers were better though, as I have a blown one in the left back door. However, I'm still glad that I purchased the Dart when I did because now the new Dodge Dart SXT/Rallye is even more affordable!
