The Chevrolet Suburban is a series of SUVs built by Chevrolet since the 1935 model year. The longest-used automobile nameplate in the world, the Chevrolet Suburban is currently in its twelfth generation, introduced for 2021. Beginning life as one of the first metal-bodied station wagons, the Suburban is the progenitor of the modern full-size SUV, combining a wagon-style body with the chassis and powertrain of a pickup truck. Alongside its Advance Design, Task Force, and C/K predecessors, the Chevrolet Silverado currently shares chassis and mechanical commonality with the Suburban and other trucks.

Traditionally one of the most profitable vehicles sold by General Motors, the Suburban has been marketed through both Chevrolet and GMC for nearly its entire production. Along sharing the Suburban name with Chevrolet, GMC has used several nameplates for the model line; since 2000, the division has marketed it as the GMC Yukon XL. Since 2003, Cadillac has marketed the Suburban as the Cadillac Escalade ESV. During the 1990s, GM Australia marketed right-hand drive Suburbans under the Holden brand.

.The Suburban is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Chile, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Peru, Philippines, and the Middle East (except Israel), while the Yukon XL is sold only in North America (exclusive to the United States, Canada, and Mexico) and the Middle East territories (except Israel).

A 2018 iSeeCars.com study identified the Chevrolet Suburban as the car that is driven the most each year. A 2019 iSeeCars.com study named the Chevrolet Suburban the second-ranked longest-lasting vehicle. In December 2019, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce unveiled a Hollywood Walk of Fame star for the Suburban, noting that the Suburban had been in "1,750 films and TV shows since 1952."

Common 2015 Chevrolet Suburban problems

The 2015 Chevrolet Suburban has been reported to have several common problems by its owners, primarily related to its climate system, engine, and fuel system.

One of the most prevalent issues is with the AC and heater system. Drivers have reported their AC going out two times in one summer, with one driver experiencing this issue at around 130,000 miles. Another driver had issues with heat coming from the back seats when using the cooling option, causing an uncomfortable blast of heat to the face for passengers. The cost of fixing these issues can range from $250 to $950.

Another common problem is related to the engine, with 27 complaints reported to the NHTSA. Drivers have experienced issues such as engines dying and slow speeds, sudden and random revving, and stalling. In one case, a driver's engine shut off while driving through a small town, causing them to coast to the shoulder before being hit. Another driver experienced sudden and random revving before their Suburban stalled, with the dealership unable to duplicate the issue initially. The steering control lock module was replaced on the second trip, but this did not solve the problem.

The fuel system is also a problematic area for the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. One driver noticed that their Suburban shuttered every time they fired it up, with a fuel pump leak being the cause. Another driver had issues with their fuel tank soaked in gas due to a hose in the fuel line rubbing against other components, potentially damaging other parts as well.

Consumer Reports also lists several trouble spots for the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, including the climate system, fuel system/emissions, engine major, paint and trim, in-car electronics, steering and suspension, and electrical.

In addition to these issues, there have been reports of transmission failures and total engine failures in the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, with some owners spending up to $6700 on a new transmission.

Overall, the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban has several common problems that owners have reported, primarily related to the climate system, engine, and fuel system. These issues can be costly to fix and may affect the reliability and overall satisfaction of owning this vehicle.

  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
  • Consequence: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

  • Consequence: As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
  • Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

Negative 2015 Chevrolet Suburban car reviews

  1. Alexandro Berge 2024-11-07

We purchased the vehicle in February 2021 with 90k miles. Unfortunately, we have had to spend $5500 on repairs so far. The air ride shocks in the rear failed, costing $700 each plus labor. Additionally, the front driver's strut failed and ruined the tire, which cost $350 to replace. As a family with 5 children, having a full-sized SUV is important to us. While we love the look of this vehicle, we have experienced some issues that are unexpected for a car with such a high price tag. I usually work on my own vehicles, so I will be the only one working on this one moving forward due to the high cost of parts.

  2. Ulices Schmitt 2024-09-12

We had a bit of a mishap with our a.c. which required us to take it in for repairs multiple times. Additionally, we've had a few other minor issues such as a broken console latch, non-functioning radio pause button, and broken plastic inserts on the interior roof. Unfortunately, our battery also died earlier than expected and the dealership was unable to cover it. It's worth noting that we take good care of our car and don't have young children. In contrast, our Lexus has been much more reliable.

  3. Kadin Herman 2024-08-15

I purchased a used 2015 Chevrolet Suburban 2LT in 2017 with only 17,000 miles on it. At the time, it seemed like a great deal since the brand new ones were priced at $60,000-$70,000. However, I did experience some issues with the car, such as the a/c unit not working properly. When I took it in for regular service, the service advisor mentioned that one of the a/c lines was bad, but still charged me $108.00 to refill the freon. Additionally, a trim piece on one of the windows came loose, but the dealer refused to honor the warranty. Fortunately, while the car was in the body shop for repairs after a deer ran into my side, they fixed all of the trim pieces and I haven't had any issues since. Although I have experienced some of the problems that have been reported by others, such as wind noise and the engine bogging down, they were not major issues. I have taken great care of the car by upgrading and protecting it with carwash memberships, weathertech mats, rain guards, and a hood protector. Overall, I really enjoy my beautiful car.I recently encountered an issue with rail dust rust spots on my car. I learned about this problem from a good friend who had the same issue with his 2015 Silverado. Apparently, when cars are shipped by rail, hot steel wheels on steel rails cause hot particles to rise and embed in the clear coat on the vehicle. Luckily, my friend was able to get it repaired for free at the dealership. I had no idea this was even a possibility until I looked it up. Despite this issue and a few other things that bother me, such as the valve tick at idle and the faulty telemetrics, I still love my car. In fact, I plan on driving it for another four years until retirement since it's great for commuting (cruise control set at 74 mph gets me 19-20 average). However, I must admit that I am disappointed with the build quality, the monstrous depreciation by giant Chevy dealers, and the nit-picky stuff that's too numerous to mention here. If I were to buy another SUV of this size (which I wouldn't), it would probably be a Toyota Sequoia. I might even consider a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma. Although I have been a lifelong GM/Chevy man, this Suburban has let me down and will likely be my last Chevy. My wife recently traded her Buick for a Volvo, and sooner or later, I will trade this Chevy too. I still have the car, and it now has 110,000 miles on it. I was ready to trade it in for a better deal due to the used car shortages, but I have decided to keep it for now. While I may not keep it until the wheels fall off, I am definitely not buying another one. The new Suburbans are beautiful, but they are way too expensive for me.

  4. Dominic Leannon 2024-08-02

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with your Chevy. It must have been frustrating to have the A/C condensers fail so soon and not be covered by warranty. It sounds like you have had a number of other issues with the vehicle as well, such as the haptic sensors, blue ray screen, wireless charger, and exterior trim pieces. It's understandable that you are disappointed, especially since this is your 15th vehicle and your first and last Chevrolet product. However, I am glad to hear that it tows your trailer well and that the 12 speaker Bose stereo sounds nice. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

  5. Jayce Dicki 2024-06-04

Hey there! I just wanted to share my experience with you. I had a 2015 Suburban and unfortunately, I had some issues with the transmission and engine. I ended up having to replace the transmission for $6700. I know it can be frustrating, but I wanted to give you a heads up so you can make an informed decision. It's worth considering that Chevy has acknowledged these problems, but they haven't issued a recall. If you're in the market for a Suburban, you might want to consider a different year. Just my two cents! Take care.

Positive 2015 Chevrolet Suburban car reviews

  1. Robin O'Keefe 2024-11-12

Hey there! I'm glad to hear that everything is going well so far!

  2. Buford Nitzsche 2024-10-26

112K miles. So far, it has been very reliable. I found that the dealership wanted $850 for the antenna, but I was able to replace it for only $50. The display software does expire, and a 3rd party company may require a one-time thumb drive upgrade for $120. The front and rear lower body panels may hit curbs and drag in snow, causing them to be slightly askew. However, the tow package works great on a 5,500lb boat. You can just toss everything in the back without needing to pack it.

  3. Wallace Dibbert 2024-09-23

This truck has been so reliable for the past 9 years!!!

  4. Baron Raynor 2024-08-29

We absolutely love our 78,000-mile 2015 Suburban LT! It has been performing all the tasks we bought it for without any issues. We were lucky to find an all black, leather interior, bench seat second row, LT - the bench seat is hard to find and much more useful. We can easily move seven people, two dogs, and all the luggage for a holiday weekend 150 miles each way to the lake while getting 17-19 miles per gallon on the highway. This is our third Suburban and we have to say that it is the best one yet! The redesigned-for-2015-Suburban rides better, is much quieter and gets much better gas mileage than our previous ones. We are amazed by how much storage space is behind the third row seats when they are up. The quality of the leather is much better than before, and the seats are much more comfortable. We are also impressed with the driver's seat that vibrates different edges of the seat to let the driver know about proximity to objects and lane departure. The cruise control is accurate and very easy to control with the left thumb on the steering wheel. The transition between 4-cylinder and 8-cylinder power is seamless and virtually undetectable unless you're looking at the information screen on the dash. We are aware of the many reported problems with 2015 Suburbans, but we have been lucky and love this vehicle. It is the Swiss Army Knife of family haulers!

  5. Wayne Lehner 2024-08-28

The AC condenser on my 2015 Chevy Suburban LTZ failed, resulting in no AC. Unfortunately, neither the dealership nor GM provided any support. As a result, I cannot give this vehicle a 5-star rating. However, I remain hopeful that GM will address this issue through a recall, which may change my perspective. In the meantime, I encourage caution when considering the GM brand.
