2007 Chevrolet Express 1500 problems
The Chevrolet Express (also known as the GMC Savana) is a series of full-size vans produced by General Motors since 1996. The successor to the Chevrolet G-series van, the Express is produced in passenger and cargo variants. Alongside the standard van body, the line is offered as a cutaway van chassis; the latter vehicle is a chassis cab variant developed for commercial-grade applications, including ambulances, buses, motorhomes, and small trucks.
In production for a single generation since 1995, over 2.5 million examples of the Express and the Savana have been produced. One of the longest-produced designs in American automotive history, the Express/Savana are rivaled only by the Jeep Wagoneer and Dodge Ram Van for longevity.
Since 1995, General Motors has assembled the Express and Savana at its Wentzville Assembly facility (Wentzville, Missouri). Also, since 2017, GM has sourced commercial cutaway-chassis production from Navistar through its Springfield Assembly Plant (Springfield, Ohio).

Common 2007 Chevrolet Express 1500 problems
The Chevrolet Express 1500, first introduced in 1995 and discontinued in 2014, was a popular work van known for its reliability and versatility. However, like any vehicle, it was not without its share of problems. Here are some of the most common issues reported by owners of the 2007 Chevrolet Express 1500:
- Check Engine Light and Misfire Due to Stuck Fuel Injectors: This issue is caused by fuel injectors that become stuck due to a lack of use or a buildup of debris. When this happens, the engine may experience misfires, leading to a loss of power and decreased fuel efficiency. In some cases, the check engine light may also illuminate.
- Fuel Level Sensor Failure: The fuel level sensor in the 2007 Chevrolet Express 1500 is prone to failure, leading to inaccurate fuel gauge readings. This can be frustrating for drivers, as they may not know how much fuel is left in the tank. In some cases, the sensor may need to be replaced to fix the issue.
- Intake Manifold Gaskets May Leak: The intake manifold gaskets on the 2007 Chevrolet Express 1500 may leak, leading to a loss of coolant and engine overheating. This issue can be difficult to diagnose, as the leak may not be visible without removing the intake manifold. In some cases, the gaskets may need to be replaced to fix the issue.
- Excessively Hard or Abrupt Gear Changes: This issue is caused by a faulty transmission control module (TCM) that needs to be recalibrated with the latest control software. It could also be caused by one or more of the clutch fill times not being learned by the TCM. In such cases, the Service Fast Learn (SFL) procedure will have to be performed. If the problems persist, the valve body will need to be replaced.
- Intermittent Hard 1-2 Shift: This issue is caused by the torque convertor clutch applying during the shift, leading to an intermittent hard 1-2 shift and engine bogging. This condition can be remedied by inspecting the wiring harness from the transmission case connector to the rear of the engine on the driver side. It's possible that the wires for the TCC solenoid and pressure control solenoid have become frayed on a body seam. If this is the case, the wiring will need to be repaired, and the harness repositioned.
- Engine Issues: The Express ranks 7th in reliability out of 40 Chevrolet models, with owners making 74 complaints over 25 model years, mostly about engine issues.
- Starting/Stalling Problems: Some owners have reported starting and stalling problems with the 2007 Chevrolet Express 1500. These issues may be caused by a variety of factors, including fuel filter problems, crank position sensor failure, timing module failure, control module problems, loose wires, or bad grounds.
It's important to note that not all 2007 Chevrolet Express 1500s will experience these issues, and many owners have reported trouble-free ownership. However, if you're experiencing any of these problems, it's important to have your vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to diagnose and fix the issue.
