Buick Envision problems

The Buick Envision is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors and marketed under the Buick brand since 2014. It is exclusively manufactured in China by the SAIC-GM joint venture, supplying the Chinese and North American markets.
Concept
The Envision was first introduced in 2011 as a design concept. It was a small crossover with two large scissor doors opening upward. The concept was a plug-in hybrid with advanced technology such as a solar roof and head-up display. The waterfall grille made it to the production version of the Envision.
First generation (2014)
The Envision was first introduced in China in August 2014, also known by its Chinese name, “Ang Ke Wei” (昂科威). It went on sale in China on October 20.
The Envision debuted in the U.S. at the North American International Auto Show on January 11, 2016, sharing the segment with a second generation GMC Terrain and the Chevrolet Equinox. It went on sale in the United States in the summer of 2016, making it the first Chinese-built GM vehicle to be sold in America. It was initially offered with all-wheel drive, and subsequently with optional front-wheel drive for model year 2017.
The North American version of the Envision features two powertrains: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 197 hp (147 kW) and 192 lb⋅ft (260 N⋅m) torque, and a turbo-charged 2-liter four-cylinder engine SAE certified at 252 hp (188 kW) and 260 lb⋅ft (353 N⋅m) torque. Both were initially paired with a third-generation six-speed transmission. For the 2016 model year, the Envision was only available in Premium I and Premium II trim levels, with the 2.0L turbo engine, seven active safety technologies, and OnStar/Intellilink connectivity. The trim levels expanded to five for the 2017 model year.
In addition to the larger engines offered in North America, Chinese buyers also have the option of a turbocharged 1.5-liter unit.
Trim levels for the first generation Envision were known as the 20T and 28T.

Buick Envision 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-28
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-14
- VIN: LRBFXCSA0LD
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: We have two problems what we would call safety issues. First, all the sound in the vehicle was lost which included safety belt warning alarm, turn signal bells, door open alarms, etc. We were told by the dealership that it was a faulty amplifier. Secondly, the sunroof opened by itself, and is locked in the open position which makes the vehicle undrivable due to weather conditions and makes it an easy target for theft. The vehicle was locked and parked in our driveway when we noticed the sunroof was open. We know this occurred on it's own as we had just washed the vehicle and locked the doors. The next day we found the sunroof open and the doors still locked. This is a computer software issue within the vehicle as these issues occurred within a matter of days of each other. The sunroof opening on its own is a safety issue as a unsecure car is a problem, opening during traveling in a storm is a real threat to driving conditions. During our investigations we have found other cases the same as ours.We have reached out to GMC and we were told no recalls have been issued and to file a complaint with NHTSA and our state Attorney General. Our vehicle has been sitting at the dealership since August 5th, waiting on back ordered parts with no anticipated delivery date for those parts. This is not a dealership issue but rather a manufacturer design defect. Buick has not taken any interest or responsibility for this issue as the vehicle was out of warranty recently. This 2020 vehicle only has 55,000 miles. I have a 60-mile roundtrip commute to my job at a local hospital and have been without a vehicle since July 28th. This issue is not due to any neglect on our part and the cost so far is over $3,000. Buick should be responsible for their design and poor engineering as this has the potential to cause an issue if this happens while the vehicle is moving. The safety bells are an added reminder to buckle up and if they are not working it is a safety issue for those in the vehicle.

- Summary: Not safety, but GM recalled 2021Trailblazers to replace Evap Purge Pumps on vehicles showing check engine light resulting in bad purge pump diagnosis. Why only Trailblazers? I recently had to replace one on my 2021Envision at 37,588 miles after my check engine light came on. Fortunately I bought the extended insurance when I purchased my new vehicle and only paid the $100 deductible. Otherwise it would have cost me $404. Buick Envision 2017
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-03
- VIN: LRBFXDSA8HD
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: When I am accelerating at a faster pace, always at 40 mph, my vehicle will start to shake. I have tested it several times now getting onto the interstate, it becomes an issue on the "on ramp" because I have to release the acceleration pedal and then very slowly get up to speed which causes me to not be able to get close enough to the posted speed while on the interstate which in turn causes other drivers to either slow down or try to move in another lane. I took it to my local Buick dealership (Trecek Automotive of Portage) on 4/29/24. They charged me $172.68 for diagnostics which resulted in this: Test drove. Did not feel shaking at first. The harder the vehicle was accelerated, the worse the shaking got. Recommend replacing front CV axle shafts. Cost approx. $1300. At the same time, I had a leak in the left rear axle seal which luckily was under warranty and was replaced. My 2017 Buick Envision has only 56,000 miles on it.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed. The dealer informed the contact that the front driver's side seat belt ratchet was abnormally opened, causing the air bag module to fail. The dealer determined that the front driver's side seat belt assembly and the front driver's side air bag module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,910. The VIN was not available.
Buick Envision 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-22
- Date Complaint: 2024-05-06
- VIN: LRBFZPR48PD
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: 2023 Buick Envision. Brakes failed. This was a new car driven 1k miles. There was no warning notification, no alert and no dashboard lights prior to this incident. Of course I had expected the normal brake resistance when I stepped on the pedal. Instead, my foot sunk closer to the floor. I pressed the pedal as hard as I could a few times until it slowed to a stop. I do not drive fast so this was to my advantage. I was later told that the Allstate Milewise device that I had been using was not recommended but in this case it was not a factor. The service manager shared documentation that there was potential system conflicts with this. This was not disclosed to me with my 2020 Envision. Therefore, I continued to use it in the 2023 vehicle. I forwarded the information to Allstate, so they could investigate further. I received call back saying to return the device and find alternative insurance options. When I was told to pick up my car, I asked what was found to cause the brake failure and to highlight the fix in the receipt. A reset of the software was the final fix: LOOKS LIKE ALL MODULES ON CAN BUS 2 LOST BRAKE CONTROL MODULE TESTED CHARGING SYSTEM WITH THE DCBS AND PASSED PERFORMED GLOBAL RESET SCANNED ALL MODULES DID FIND UPDATE FOR THE SERIAL DATA GATEWAY UPDATE MODULE 45YY212842554” I was told that until this happens again that is all they can do.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-19
- Date Complaint: 2024-02-28
- VIN: LRBFXFSX6HD

- Summary: The vacuum pump failed, causing the gear to explode, which in turn damaged the cam shaft. Yes, this is available for inspection. The brake was unable to be depressed, requiring extreme force to being able to safely stop at an area that was safe to do so. I turned the car off and it made a funny sound. When I tried to start the car, it would no longer start. The car was towed to my local auto mechanic and then to the closest Buick dealership. The dealership diagnosed the problem outlined above. No warning lights.

Vehicle year: 2016
My wife and I have always had different opinions when it comes to choosing a car. However, when she picked out the 2016 Envision for herself, I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing features and quality of the vehicle. In fact, I was so impressed that I decided to lease one for myself just a week later! Now, we are proud owners of two Envisions! The lease value was also a major factor in our decision-making process. Despite the Envision's high MSRP, the monthly lease cost was comparable to vehicles that cost $10,000 less. It's important to note that for the 2016 introduction in North America, only the Premium and Premium II trim options were available. However, I anticipate that next year's model will offer a full line of trim options, which may affect the current

Vehicle year: 2017
I absolutely fell in love with this vehicle after renting the standard model for a week on a business trip. It's hard to drive any other midsize SUV after experiencing the Envision's smooth ride and handling. One of the things that sets it apart is that the engine is not directly mounted to the frame, resulting in very little vibration and a quiet ride. We leased the Premium 1 with the Turbo and were impressed with the lineal torque curve and smooth 6-speed transmission. The interior fit and finish is excellent, and we were pleased to get 26 mpg on our first highway trip. If the start-stop feature bothers you, simply shift it into 'L' and click it to 6 to cancel it out. Overall, we are very happy with this selection.

Vehicle year: 2019
This is a beautiful vehicle inside and out. It's super quiet and has great road feel for an SUV. If you're thinking about a mid-size SUV, don't overlook this Buick! The Envision feels much more luxurious and has great features for the price. The Essence offers a very luxurious vehicle that handles well and gets good gas mileage. After 6 months and 9,000 miles, nothing has changed.

Vehicle year: 2022
I recently upgraded from a 2019 Envision to a 2021 model and while I love that it's bigger, I did lose some features that I had on my previous one. However, I did notice that my 2019 drove much quieter and smoother than my 2021, which has already started to experience hesitation issues when accelerating despite only having 1000 miles on it. After reading about similar issues with the 2021 Envisions, I believe it would be wise for the manufacturer to issue a recall and address this problem before it causes harm to anyone.

Vehicle year: 2020
We recently purchased the Envision and have only driven 500 miles so far, so I cannot comment on its reliability. We were in the market for an SUV for a couple of months and were struggling with the decision between a 2-row and a 3-row. Ultimately, we decided to go for a larger 2-row as my wife will be driving it every day and we only road-trip a couple of times a year. We were initially set on buying a VW Tiguan due to its size and power, but decided to visit our local Buick dealer to see what they had to offer. We were pleasantly surprised by the Envision, which we had not even considered before. When my wife test drove the turbo 2.0, the decision became easy: she had to have it! We were blown away by the smooth ride, easy steering, and extremely quiet interior. We also test drove one with the 2.5 4-cyl, but it didn't compare to the turbo. However, I must say that the 2.5 liter was on-par with VW's turbo 2.0. It made us realize that the VW and the Honda were weak. The Envision has all kinds of power, but it comes at a price. We averaged 25 mpg (hand calculated) on a 400-mile road trip, with a conservative 71 mph average speed. Not terrible, but overall worse than others in this class. This will be my wife's daily-driver, so we'll see how it does in the city. I'm hopeful the mileage will improve after we get a few thousand miles on it. Cargo capacity is okay, but we travel lightly so we're good with it. We had just enough room for us, two small kids, 3 small suitcases, a box of toys, and miscellaneous bags of stuff. I recently rented a Nissan Murano for a road trip, and this Envision felt just as good, if not better. The only areas where the Murano was better was mpg and its slightly larger size. We opted for the Premium I trim, but even the lower trims are well-equipped with a power lift gate, heated seats, wheel, and more. The other makes only offer that stuff in high trim levels. Honda does not even offer two of her must-haves in the CR-V. Overall, we are thrilled with our decision to go with the Envision and would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new SUV.The Envision is a great choice if you're looking for a larger 2-row SUV with features like a heated steering wheel and panoramic sunroof. It's been 16k miles since we got our Envision and my wife still loves it. We haven't had any issues whatsoever and have only performed the required maintenance. After break-in, we've bested 27 mpg on a very long highway trip. We don't track in-town mileage, but would estimate it's in the 18-20 mpg range. Driven conservatively, I would say it does better on fuel than the estimate. The only downside is that it requires premium. My wife definitely notices a difference in performance if she uses regular or mid-grade fuel.

The car's drive is not very smooth. It can be quite jerky and not what one would expect from a Buick. Additionally, the brakes are quite loud and make a noise that suggests they may need to be changed. GMC has informed me that this is an issue with all the cars due to a new brake material. I find this disappointing.

I had a scary experience recently when my gas pedal got stuck while I was passing another vehicle. Despite my efforts to brake, the car kept accelerating and I was shaking with fear. Eventually, I managed to pull over to the side of the highway by putting the car in neutral and braking hard. It was a freaky situation and left me wondering what had happened. The following week, I took my car to a dealership in McKinney, Tx to get my oil changed and they told me they had never heard of this issue. :-(

My car has just hit 7000 miles and unfortunately, I have had to take it back to the shop for the third time due to electrical problems. I have had to deal with issues such as the service airbag and instrument cluster. The first time I took it in, they said it was a loose connector, but the message returned 24 hours later and now they are unsure of the issue. It seems like I may have to replace the instrument cluster, but unfortunately, it is backordered. Since the car was new, it has been short on computer chips and I was told that the ETA was September, but now we are moving into December and there are still no chips. As a result, I am lacking some of the features that I paid for. While I am disappointed with my experience, I understand that these things can happen and I hope that the issues can be resolved soon. I am hesitant to purchase another Buick in the future, but I appreciate the efforts of the service team to help me with my car.

We purchased the vehicle in late November of 2016 and it looked great. However, since then, we have had to take it in and out of the dealership multiple times for various issues, including a noise near the gas tank that has been difficult to fix and a failed operating system. It has been frustrating to deal with the wait time for parts, which can take up to 7-10 days. If given the chance, we would not purchase this car again. We recommend considering a Mercedes for the same price instead.
