Bmw 650i problems
The third generation of the BMW 6 Series consists of the BMW F12 (two-door convertible version), BMW F13 (two-door coupé version) BMW F06 (four-door "Gran Coupé" version) executive-sized grand tourers. The F12/F13/F06 generation was produced from 2011 to 2018 and is often collectively referred to as the F12.
The F12 shares a platform and many features with the F10 5 Series and F01 7 Series, with the two-door F12/13 models having a shorter wheelbase than the F10, while the four-door F06's wheelbase matches the F10's.
The M6 versions are powered by the S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It is the first M6 model to use a turbocharged engine.
Production of the F12 generation ended, first with the Coupé in February 2017, then the convertible in February 2018, and finally Gran Coupé models which were discontinued in September 2018. The successor to the F12, the BMW 8 Series (G15), began production in June 2018. The 6 Series nameplate was re-used for the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (G32) which is still executive-sized being based upon the contemporary 5 Series (G30) and has features of a four-door coupé like frameless doors and sloping rear roofline; however unlike the F06 Gran Coupé which is a sedan the G32 Gran Turismo is a 5-door liftback succeeding the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo (F07).

Common Bmw 650i problems
The BMW 650i, a luxury grand tourer, is known for its high-performance capabilities and elegant design. However, it has also been associated with several common problems that owners have reported over the years.
One of the most significant issues with the BMW 650i is its poor reliability, which is often attributed to the high cost of parts and service.
Another common problem with the BMW 650i is oil consumption, which has been the subject of a class-action lawsuit. This can lead to check engine lights and blue smoke from the exhaust, requiring replacement or securing of the affected components.
The high-pressure fuel pump is another potential problem area for the BMW 650i, particularly in 2011 models with the V8 engine. The valve that controls the amount of fuel that enters the high-pressure fuel pump can fail, leading to decreased engine power output and an engine malfunction warning. Replacing both high-pressure fuel pumps is the recommended solution.
The 6 Series GT, which replaced the grand touring coupe in BMW's lineup after 2018, has been criticized for its awkward design and lackluster sales. The BMW 6 Series has a rich history, but potential buyers should be aware of the maintenance and potential problems that could arise with this Bimmer.
In the second generation 6 Series, built from 2003 to 2010, problems with the variable valve timing system were common. The oil line from the VVT system could potentially leak, leading to a rattly engine and a check engine light. Replacing the affected components is the recommended solution, but it is not a cheap fix.
The Valvetronic Intermediate Levers are another common problem area for the second generation 6 Series, with symptoms including an irregular idle speed for about 20 seconds and a check engine light with misfire diagnostic codes. If this happens, the intermediate levers need to be replaced.
The rear end design of the second generation 6 Series has also been criticized for its iffy appearance, with a pronounced decklid and a decline downwards that some have described as lazy.
The F13 generation of the 6 Series, produced from 2012 to 2018, has been associated with limp mode issues, particularly in the 6-cylinder models. This is due to an oil leak in the VANOS system, which can cause the car to go into a limp mode and throw up an engine light. Checking the VANOS system before purchasing is recommended.
Finally, the BMW 650i has been known to consume oil, particularly in the F13 generation. This issue can lead to check engine lights and decreased engine performance, requiring regular top-ups of oil to maintain optimal performance.
In summary, the BMW 650i is a high-performance luxury grand tourer that has been associated with several common problems, including poor reliability, oil consumption, fuel pump failure, and issues with the VVT system and Valvetronic Intermediate Levers. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider the long-term ownership costs before making a purchase.

Bmw 650i 2013
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-05
- Date Complaint: 2024-07-10
- VIN: WBAYP1C5XDD
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: BMW issues a customer care package regarding issues with the fuel injectors. I originally had to have #8 injector replaced. Shortly after leaving dealership the check engine light came on. To find out now that the catalytic converter on that side of the engine needed replaced ($3400) which they would not provide any assistance on, even though it was most likely caused by the excess fuel being passed through. The car had 38,558 miles on it at the time but was two months passed the 8 year warranty!!!! At 51,875 miles, problem had existed for several thousand miles. The dealership replaced the oxygen censor and a partial flush of the transfer case fluid. Did not resolve the problem, had to have transfer case replaced. $5400. It is currently in for repair as check engine light came on and car was showing a drive train malfunction alert. Using a code reader it was showing a failure of fuel injectors, 1, 2 and three. I can only imagine they are going to tell me that the catalytic converter on that side now needs replaced. Regardless of the age of the vehicle, a car with 54,000 miles on it should not require this level of repairs and failures !!

- Summary: Due to ongoing issues with the BMW N--63 engine which is known for excessive oil use! They claim that one quart per 750-1000 miles is normal ???Car now stutters on acceleration, BMW serviced the vehicle, changing transfer case fluid ( All fluid was not able to be exchanged without removing the transfer case and that was not done )and recalibrated transfer box. Replaced O2 Sensor as well. Repairs did not solve the issue, slight improvement but stuttering continues. Now they say that to resolve this the transfer case would need replaced !! This car has 52,000 miles on it! Due to the failing fuel injectors the catalytic converter needed replaced at 44,000 miles at a cost of $3,000.00. BMW will never admit to issues with their vehicles. I have owned 8 BMW's and have been through this with most of them!

- VIN: WBAYP1C52ED
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: REGULARLY, PERHAPS EVERY 2 MONTHS, MY CAR'S AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM WILL ACTIVATE WITHOUT CAUSE. IT HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY AND IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO WHEN I PASS A LARGE TRUCK. THE SYSTEM WILL TRIGGER, CAUSING A BEEPING NOISE AND AN IMAGE OF A CAR TO SHOW UP IN THE HEADS-UP DISPLAY. ABOUT HALF THE TIME, THE BRAKES WILL BE APPLIED VERY HARD. THIS SITUATION ONLY LASTS FOR PERHAPS A SECOND OR TWO AND THEN DISAPPEARS. THERE IS NEVER A CAR IN FRONT OF ME SO THERE IS NO THREAT AND NO REASON FOR THE SYSTEM TO TRIGGER. AS I MENTIONED, IT SEEMS LIKE THIS FALSE (OR PHANTOM) TRIGGER COINCIDES WITH PASSING A LARGE TRUCK. PART OF MY FRUSTRATION WITH THIS IS THAT WHEN I SPEAK WITH BMW SERVICE, THEY SAY THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY SUCH ISSUES WITH THE SYSTEM BUT THAT I'M WELCOME TO HAVE THEM REVIEW IT FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. SINCE I'M NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE MECHANICS AT MY LOCAL DEALER CAN OR WILL FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE SYSTEM I DON'T WANT TO SIMPLY THROW AWAY THIS MONEY. I'M ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THESE NEW SAFETY SYSTEMS BUT THE MANUFACTURERS SHOULD SUPPORT THEM FOR PERHAPS 10 YEARS. THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO INVESTIGATE FALSE TRIGGERS AND ALSO TO ANNUALLY CHECK THE SYSTEM IS WORKING RELIABLY. WITHOUT THIS, PEOPLE WILL BEGIN TO TURN THESE SYSTEMS OFF AS THEY BEGIN TO FEAR THEM AS I DO.

- VIN: WBAYM1C51DD
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, WHICH HAVE BEEN QUITE DISAPPOINTING. DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION LIGHT POPPED UP JUST AROUND 52K MILES, IT HAD A ROUGH IDLE, MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRES AND WOULD GO LIMP OFTEN. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, WHERE THEY TOLD ME AFTER DIAGNOSTICS THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE COILS/SPARK PLUGS. CHANGED OUT BOTH OF THOSE AND IT RAN GOOD FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. 58K MILES, 65KMILES , 70K MILES AND NOW 85-90K MILES ALL HAVE HAD THIS DRIVETRAIN PROBLEM. THE CAR IS NOW AT 92K MILES AND IS ROUGH IDLING AND MISFIRING OFTEN AGAIN. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE, THE FUEL PUMP WAS BAD (COVERED BY EXTENDED WARRANTY), AUXILIARY RADIATOR WAS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND I HAVE CHANGED ALL COILS AND SPARK PLUGS TWICE IN THE LAST 2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. ALL DRIVETRAIN PROBLEMS HAPPEN WHILE IN MOTION (MISFIRES) AND ROUGH IDLES WHEN STATIONARY.

- Summary: DURING ROUTINE SERVICE LAST MONTH, LOCAL BMW DEALER FOUND THE DRIVE SHAFT REAR GUIBO/FLEXIBLE DISC WAS CRACKING AND RECOMMENDED IMMEDIATE ACTION. IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM AS WAS RECALLED ON OTHER BMW MODELS (SEE RECALL CAMPAIGN 17V-067). I REPORTED IT TO BMW BUT BMW REFUSED TO TAKE ANY ACTION OR TO ASSIST. COST TO FIX IS ALMOST $1000. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IF NOT FIXED, THE DRIVE SHAFT COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. YIKES! I BELIEVE BMW SHOULD FIX/RECALL THIS. THE ORIGINAL MSRP ON THIS CAR WAS OVER $103,000 - IN MY OPINION, THIS DEFECT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON SUCH A CAR, ESPECIALLY AT ONLY 57,000 MILES.
