The fifth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars is designated under the model codes E90 (saloon), E91 (estate, marketed as 'Touring'), E92 (coupé) and E93 (convertible). The model was introduced in December 2004, and produced by BMW until October 2013 and is often collectively referred to as the E90 or E9x.

The E9x saw the introduction of run-flat tyres to the 3 Series range. Models with run-flat tires are not equipped with a spare tyre. The E92 335i was the first 3 Series model produced with a turbocharged petrol engine. It was also the first 3 Series to include the iDrive operating system, which consists of navigation, infotainment and essential vehicle functions.

The E90/E92/E93 M3 is the only generation of M3 to be powered by a V8 engine. Introduced in 2007, it uses the BMW S65 naturally aspirated V8 engine and was produced in saloon, coupé and convertible body styles.

Following the introduction of the F30/F31 3 Series in February 2012, the E90/E91 saloons and estates were phased out. However due to their later introduction, the E92/E93 coupés and convertibles remained in production through the 2013 model year, after which they were replaced by the F32/F33 4 Series models.

Common 2011 Bmw 335is problems

The BMW 335is, introduced in 2011, is a high-performance variant of the 3-series coupe and convertible. While it offers impressive performance and styling, some common problems have been reported by owners.

  • Cooling System Problems: The cooling system in the BMW 335is has some issues, including leaking and using coolant even without seal problems. These issues can lead to engine overheating, especially in hot climates or on hot summer days. It is essential to keep an eye on the running temperature and ensure the coolant levels are correct to avoid engine damage.
  • Electrical Problems: While rare, some electrical problems have been reported in the BMW 335is. The most significant issue is the electrical system around the headlight causing the vehicle to ignite in some infrequent instances. This problem can result in severe fires, potentially totaling the car. Other electrical problems include issues with internal accessories not working correctly, but these are less severe and less common.
  • Faulty High-Pressure Fuel Pump: The high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) in the BMW 335is is responsible for injecting the engine with fuel at the correct pressure. When there's a problem with the HPFP, you may experience slow engine start, decreased performance, and a check engine light signal. Replacing the HPFP can be expensive due to labor costs, especially if you're out of warranty.
  • Wastegate Rattle: The twin-turbo N54 engine in the BMW 335is can experience a "rattle" due to the arm/rod functioning incorrectly. This issue can result in rattling noises from the engine, loss of power, and smoke from the exhaust. Preventive maintenance is one of the best ways to combat this problem.

In summary, while the BMW 335is offers impressive performance and styling, it is essential to be aware of these common problems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these issues, but it is crucial to keep an eye on the engine, cooling system, electrical system, and HPFP to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

Is BMW 2011 335is reliable?

All around a good car

It isn't a head turner nor will it win over anyone for interior styling but it is an all around good car and was very reliable. It does everything better than your standard 4 door sedan in the segment but it isn't going to wow you in any way.

How long do BMW 335is last?

With proper maintenance, a BMW 335i can last well over 100,000 miles and potentially reach 200,000 miles or more.

What's special about the 335is?

Balanced performance

On the Estoril circuit, the 335is proved very well balanced thanks to its nearly ideal weight distribution and sport suspension. The delivery of power and torque is particularly linear, allowing the driver to use just the right amount of gas when coming out of turns.

What engine is in 2011 335is?

3.0 L 6-cylinder2011 BMW 335is / Engine

To that end, the 335is gets 320 hp and 332 lb-ft torque from the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine, and an overboost function allows for seven-second blasts of 370 lb-ft of torque.

Is 335i better than 335is?

The iS offers somewhat improved power and handling over the i, but it comes at a price. That model is slotted between the i and the M both in terms of performance and price. I do not think the 335is offers any improved handling over its 335i e92 counterpart (which already comes with the sports suspension).
