The fifth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars is designated under the model codes E90 (saloon), E91 (estate, marketed as 'Touring'), E92 (coupé) and E93 (convertible). The model was introduced in December 2004, and produced by BMW until October 2013 and is often collectively referred to as the E90 or E9x.

The E9x saw the introduction of run-flat tyres to the 3 Series range. Models with run-flat tires are not equipped with a spare tyre. The E92 335i was the first 3 Series model produced with a turbocharged petrol engine. It was also the first 3 Series to include the iDrive operating system, which consists of navigation, infotainment and essential vehicle functions.

The E90/E92/E93 M3 is the only generation of M3 to be powered by a V8 engine. Introduced in 2007, it uses the BMW S65 naturally aspirated V8 engine and was produced in saloon, coupé and convertible body styles.

Following the introduction of the F30/F31 3 Series in February 2012, the E90/E91 saloons and estates were phased out. However due to their later introduction, the E92/E93 coupés and convertibles remained in production through the 2013 model year, after which they were replaced by the F32/F33 4 Series models.

Common 2010 Bmw 335i problems

The BMW 335i, introduced in 2010, has been known for several common problems that have been reported by owners. These issues range from engine and cooling system problems to electrical and fuel system concerns.

Engine Problems:
One of the most common engine problems in the BMW 335i is overheating during everyday use.

Cooling System Problems:
The cooling system in the BMW 335i has its share of problems, including leaking and using coolant even without seal issues.

Electrical Problems:
The most significant electrical problem in the BMW 335i is the rare but potentially dangerous issue where the electrical system around the headlight can cause the vehicle to ignite.

Faulty High-Pressure Fuel Pump:
The high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) in the BMW 335i is responsible for injecting the engine with fuel at the correct pressure. When there's a problem with the HPFP, symptoms such as slow engine start, decreased performance, and a check engine light may appear.

Wastegate Rattle:
A common problem with the twin-turbo N54 engine in the BMW 335i is the wastegate rattle, which is caused by the arm/rod functioning incorrectly. Symptoms include rattling noises from the engine, loss of power, and smoke from the exhaust. Regular preventive maintenance is recommended to combat this issue.

In summary, the BMW 335i has several common problems, including engine overheating, cooling system leaks, electrical issues, faulty high-pressure fuel pumps, and wastegate rattle. These issues can be costly to repair, particularly if the vehicle is out of warranty, and may impact the overall reliability and driving experience of the car.

  • Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: BMW is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 1-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured December 2007 through September 2011; and 2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sports wagons manufactured March 2007 through June 2011; and 2009-2011 Z4 vehicles manufactured March 2009 through June 2011. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 516,791. The connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time. Over time, the high current flow and heat from electrical resistance may lead to a breakage of the connection, and a loss of electrical power to the vehicle.
  • Consequence: If there is a loss of electrical power to the vehicle, the vehicle may unexpectedly stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the positive battery cable connector and secure it with an improved method, free of charge. The recall began on March 13, 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].
