Common 2020 Audi Q3 problems

The 2020 Audi Q3 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. The most significant issues are with the windows/windshield and the engine.

Windows/Windshield Problems:
There have been six complaints regarding windows/windshield problems in the 2020 Audi Q3. These issues include windshields cracking and breaking without any apparent cause or external impact. In some cases, the windshields have even shattered while driving, causing a safety hazard for the driver and passengers. This problem may be due to a manufacturing defect or poor-quality materials used in the windshields.

Engine Problems:
The 2020 Audi Q3 has also had two reported engine problems. One of the issues is related to the EA888 2.0-liter engine, which has a history of tensioner problems in its timing chain. The loose chain can lead to catastrophic engine failure, forcing Audi to offer settlements to affected owners. This defect is a significant concern, as it can lead to complete engine failure, which is both costly and dangerous for the vehicle's occupants.

Brake Backing Plates:
Audi has recalled 350 Q3 SUVs from the 2020 model year due to a problem with the backing plates holding the brakes together. During sudden stops, these plates can fall off, causing a significant safety hazard. The pressure from the brakes can also cause the plates to bend, which does not inspire much confidence in the vehicle's stopping ability.

Seat Bolt Recall:
In some cases, the driver's seat in the 2020 Audi Q3 may not have been properly bolted down, requiring a recall. This issue can cause the seat to become loose during driving, leading to a potential safety hazard.

Start-Stop System:
The start-stop system in the 2020 Audi Q3 has been criticized for causing dangerous acceleration delays. The system starts up automatically each time the ignition is pressed and must be manually deactivated by pressing a separate button. This inconvenience and mandatory burden are not disclosed to the Class Members at the time of sale, leading to frustration and safety concerns.

Water Leakage:
Some owners of the 2020 Audi Q3 have reported water leakage from the dome panel after heavy rain. This issue can cause constant dripping water all over the shift knob and the front row area of the car, leading to discomfort and potential damage to the vehicle's interior.

Clock Stopping:
The clock in the 2020 Audi Q3 stops every time the car is stopped, and the dealerships have not been able to provide a fix for this issue. This problem can be frustrating for drivers, especially in situations where they need to know the time while stopped.

Lane Assist:
The Lane Assist feature in the 2020 Audi Q3 has been reported to work only twice since some owners have had the vehicle. This issue can lead to safety concerns, as the Lane Assist feature is designed to help drivers stay in their lane and avoid accidents.

These common problems with the 2020 Audi Q3 can be frustrating and potentially dangerous for owners. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and satisfaction of Audi Q3 owners.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-27
  • VIN: WA1BECF36L1
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Design and/or manufacturing flaw in Audi m/n 8R0071128C Fork Mount Bike Rack presents a risk of bicycle becoming detached from the rack/vehicle at highway speeds. I have retained all parts and they could be made available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Risk is bicycle flying off the roof of a car at highway speeds causing significant damage to the carrying vehicle and/or triggering a serious accident involving nearby vehicles. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet, but I have been engaged in a very slow moving dialog with a number of Audi representatives, most recently with Lori W, Region Case Manager, Audi CXC (Audi of America Customer Experience Center). Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Not Applicable Travelling at highway speed was a bang on car roof. Pulled over and found that the bicycle mounted on the Audi m/n 8R0071128C Fork Mount Bike Rack was no longer secured. After removing the bicycle, I saw that 1of2 threaded parts that clamp the bicycle fork to the rack was gone, bang heard likely was that part hitting roof. Remaining 2of2 threaded part was loose, could be turned by hand and was in danger of also falling off. It appears that the design of Audi m/n 8R0071128C enables these critical parts to unthread and detach during use. Possible fixes may be as simple as use of a permanent type thread locking compound during manufacturing or as complex as a redesign which does not present the possibility of failing in such an unsafe manner. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-09
  • VIN: WA1FECF3XL1
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: There is a large flaw on these vehicles. The sunroof framing becomes damaged. This creates an issue of water leaking in the interior. It causes an electrical issue as well as creates a distracted driving environment. I was driving when this happened and I had to start controlling the water leaking from the roof of my vehicle. This is a large safety issue that Audi knows about and even has a technical documentation to repair this issue.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-12
  • VIN: WA1BECF33L1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Not sure if this requires investigation by NHTSA so I am reporting it and will let you decide. 2020 Audi Q-3. Purchased Certified Pre-Owned in April 2023 with 13,000 miles on it. Found that at highway speed when you apply brakes the pedal pulsates and shudders. I now have 17,900 miles on it and the pulsation is getting worse. To my regret we did not take a very long test ride when buying. I have not lost control or had any accident, but I Googled the problem and found that this is a common complaint with many Audi models. Brought car back to dealer who states that I need to replace front disc pads and rotors as well as rear brake pads. I feel that this is not normal with such low miles. I am not sure if this needs an investigation by NHTSA but again, if you do an online search it is a problem with many Audi models. I have been advised that this problem could lead to loss of control of the vehicle. Also, the dealer and Audi USA refuse to do the repair under the warranty saying that brakes are "a wear item".

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-11-11
  • VIN: WA1FECF39L1
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Please investigate the 2020 Audi Q3 and issue a recall - this is a major driver safety issue. I purchased this vehicle new from the Audi Crown Clearwater, FL dealership in late 2019. I am taking it for repair a THIRD time because after it rains, the interior gets flooded with water which pours into the car from the rear-view mirror area which affects driver visibility, lights, electrical components, and more. The water damage is visible and there is so much built-up saturation from the leak that it causes the interior touch lights to stay on. The contact at the dealership who assured me she would help if this ever happened again after the first two fixes was evasive when I tried to ask what measures they took to fix it the first two times (in an effort to understand what they did before as well as suggest they need to attempt something different) and admitted that other Q3s were having this issue. She told me to call Audi America like another customer did, but refused to share the contact number or specify what I should tell them. This is a completely unacceptable situation created by Audi which poses a hazard for drivers. Not to mention Audi failing to stand behind a luxury brand image by putting the burden on customers to jump through hoops to seek recourse for a defective vehicle.

After that, I got the message to put the car in park to prevent it rolling away. I tried to restart, but it would not. As the signal changed and traffic had to move around me, I put on the emergency lights and continued to try to start the car. It took 3-4 tries. I then took it to the dealer who did an inspection and test drive, but nothing showed up. I was about to get on the freeway when this happened and worried about driving. Even after inspection of the vehicle, i am hesitant about driving on the freeway and worried about this happening again, this time with the engine in gear.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-04-21
  • VIN: WA1FECF36L1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: AS IN PAST INSTANCE RELATED TO THE DIESEL ENGINE FUEL CONSUMPTION CASE, AUDI IS HIDING THE FACT THAT THEIR BRAKE ROTORS FOR THE Q3 2020 MODEL HAVE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE ROTORS ARE PRODUCED WARPED FROM THE FACTORY AND IT MAY CAUSE VARIOUS BREAKING ISSUES AS THE MILEAGE INCREASES, STARTING WITH NOISES, STEERING WHEEL AND CAR VIBRATIONS TO POSSIBLE BRAKE FAILURE. AUDI DOES NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO REPAIR THESE CARS PERMANENTLY OR DECLARE THEM UNDRIVABLE AND, AS THEIR MILEAGE INCREASES TO PROVIDE WARRANTY FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS BEYOND THEIR ORIGINAL WARRANTY TERM. THEY ALSO DO NOT WANT TO MAKE THIS AN ISSUE WHICH REQUIRES A MANDATORY RECALL FOR TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES PREFERRING TO BLAME IT ON VARIOUS OTHER FACTORS RELATED TO THE VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN TO A LESSER EXTENT AND RUST ACCUMULATING ON THE ROTORS. IN FACT THEY RECOGNIZED THIS AS A KNOWN ISSUE AND REPLACED THE 4 ROTORS AFTER 4000 MILES, AND WHEN THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED AFTER ANOTHER 2500 MILES THE DENIALS AND BLAMING ON THE WAY THE CAR IS BEING USED (LESS THAN AVERAGE MILEAGE) STARTED. THEIR REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM PROPERLY IN THE HOPE THAT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES THEY WILL BE ABLE TO CHARGE FOR REPAIRS. IN FACT, BEING CONCERNED BY THE SAFETY ISSUES RELATED TO DEFECTIVE PARTS, I OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THOSE PARTS AND I GOT FROM THEM A QUOTE FOR THE COSTS. THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THAT WOULD MEAN AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE EXISTENCE OF THE PROBLEM (NEEDING TO REPLACE 4 ROTORS AFTER 4000 MILES AND 2 REAR ROTORS AFTER ANOTHER 2500 MILES). THEY ALSO ARE BLAMING THE CUSTOMER FOR HEAVING BRAKING WHICH CAUSES THE ISSUE WHEN IN FACT THE CAR IS DRIVEN LIGHTLY AND ONLY WHEN ALLOWED OVER THE 60 MILES/HOUR LIMIT. ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH A PERMANENT FIX.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-02-21
  • VIN: WA1FEDF36L1
  • Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: WE STOPPED AT AN ALL WAY STOP INTERSECTION AND THE CAR'S STOP-START SYSTEM HAD TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN THE ENGINE RESTARTED THE ENGINE HESITATED, WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASH, AND THE CAR WENT INTO ITS "LIMP HOME" MODE. WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE A VERY SLOW SPEED. LUCKILY IT WAS ON A CITY STREET WITH A 25 MPH LIMIT AND TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT. WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND RESTARTED IT. THE CAR WORKED NORMALLY AFTER RESTARTING AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR A RECALL THAT SEEMS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE (OEM ID: 96H5. RECALL NAME: ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU) SOFTWARE) AND HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALER TO HAVE IT INSTALLED ASAP.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-03-18
  • VIN: WA1BECF37L1
  • Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I PURCHASED MY AUDI 2020 Q3 IN NOVEMBER 2019. SINCE THE PURCHASE, ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE CAR HAS FAILED TO ACCELERATE UNDER VERY SPECIFIC SPEED CONDITIONS. IN EACH CASE, THE VEHICLE HAD SLOWED EITHER DUE TO A SHARP CURVE WHILE ENTERING A FREEWAY OR FOR A SLOWER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WHILE ENTERING THE FREEWAY. WHEN TIME CAME TO ACCELERATE TO MATCH THE SPEED OF THE FREEWAY TRAFFIC, ADDING POWER WAS FUTILE. DRIFTING ON TO A FREEWAY AT 20 MILES PER HOUR AND DECELERATING; WHILE FREEWAY TRAFFIC IS MOVING AT 70 TO 80 MPH (CALIFORNIA) IS UNNERVING AT BEST AND CERTAINLY, POTENTIAL DEADLY. AUDI CALLS THE THE PROBLEM "LIMP MODE". AUDI OF AMERICA, INC. ISSUED EMISSIONS SERVICE ACTION 96H5 - ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) SOFTWARE WHICH CLEVERLY DANCES AROUND THE REAL THREAT WHICH IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT. IN MARCH 2021, WHEN 96H5 CAME AVAILABLE IT WAS INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE. THE NEXT WEEK I TOOK A ROAD TRIP OF SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES. UNFORTUNATELY, THE THIRD " ENGINE LIMP MODE" OCCURRENCE HAPPENED NEARLY RESULTING IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER THE FREEWAY. NHTSA NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. THE CURRENT SOFTWARE FIX IS NOT A FIX. PEOPLE WILL EVENTUALLY DIE.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-03-12
  • VIN: WA1BECF3XL1
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT ABLE TO BE TURNED. THIS PREVENTED THE DRIVER FROM MOVING THE VEHICLE FORWARD AND STEERING OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THE PROBLEM RESOLVES WITH THIS RESET. THE INTERVALS BETWEEN THESE EPISODES HAVE BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS. THERE ARE NO SPECIFICALLY COMMON VARIABLES, OTHER THAN A LOWER SPEED - START/STOP AS IN WAITING TO CROSS A LINE OF TRAFFIC OR PROCEEDING THROUGH A STOP SIGN. I HAVE TAKEN THE Q3 TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES NOW AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE IS THE FIX. RECENTLY THE CAR HAS BEEN MAKING A VIBRATING NOISE WHEN COASTING, AND IT LOST POWER IN AN INTERSECTION ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND EVEN ACTIVATED THE PARKING BRAKE. WE ALWAYS DISABLE THE CAR'S AUTO START-STOP FEATURE, AS WE SUSPECTED THAT TO BE INVOLVED, BUT THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. WE FEEL THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND THE AUDI DEALER SEEMS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. OUR FIRST AUDI PURCHASE, WE HAD ONE OF THE FIRST 2020 Q3 TO ARRIVE IN THE US AND FOUR SHUT-OFF INCIDENTS SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN OCT 2019. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN LESS THAN ANTICIPATED DUE TO COVID, REMOTE SCHOOL/WORK AND NO TRAVEL. PERHAPS MORE FREQUENT DRIVING WOULD HAVE ACCELERATED THE CLAIM PROCESS FOR US. IRONICALLY, WE CHOSE THE CAR FOR ITS SAFETY FEATURES PRIMARILY FOR OUR TEEN/YOUNG ADULT DRIVERS. THE CAR HAS SHUT DOWN FOR THREE DRIVERS, TWICE FOR OUR TEEN AND ONCE FOR EACH OF THE PARENTS, SO WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT THE PROBLEM EXISTS AS DESCRIBED AND PERSISTS DESPITE ATTEMPTS TO FIX IT. EACH TIME WE FELT IT WAS RESOLVED DUE TO A LONG INTERVAL BETWEEN INCIDENTS, BUT TODAY WAS MORE FRIGHTENING THAN OTHERS DUE TO THE INTERSECTION WHERE IT OCCURRED. THIS COULD CAUSE A CRITICAL ACCIDENT.

Negative 2020 Audi Q3 car reviews

In my experience with the 2019 Audi Q3 S line Prestige, I found that it did not meet my expectations for a luxury vehicle. The acceleration was not as responsive as I had hoped and the engine noise on cold startup was quite noticeable. Additionally, the transmission shifting was not as smooth as I would have liked. While the price point may be higher than some other options in its class, I would encourage comparing it to other vehicles to determine the best overall value and performance for your needs.

An orange base model Q3 is my Enterprise loaner while my Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is in the body shop. Let me break it down for you: what I like and what I don't like. What I like about the Q3 is that the seats and driving position are comfortable and have lots of adjustments, which is something my RAV4 lacks. The power rear hatch opens and closes very quickly, unlike the extremely slow hatch on my Toyota. The cabin is also very quiet and the ride is composed, although it can be a bit stiff at times. The handling feels quite good with good feedback from the steering wheel, and the brakes are firm and powerful. However, I do have some concerns. The gas mileage is quite poor, reminiscent of a large car from 20 years ago. It's 2020, not 2000. I understand that it weighs almost 4000 lbs, but so does my RAV4 hybrid, which gets about twice as many miles per gallon. The engine also has the feeling of an economy car around town. Additionally, the controls for the radio and other features are frustratingly over-complicated. After 4 days, I still can't find an easy way to change the station. In order to reset the trip meter, you have to go through a rigamarole of pressing a menu button, then scrolling a wheel till it says The front seat restraints are quite enormous and thick, which can block the view when looking to the right while backing out of the driveway into the street. However, the Q3 is a nice small SUV built like a tank with high quality and comfort. Unfortunately, it just doesn't meet my expectations well enough for me to consider this car if I was looking again. Perhaps if I was an Audi enthusiast, I may be blind to all the negatives. If the car was a hybrid or PHEV, it could fix the awful gas mileage and make the tech much simpler (I am sick of touch screens for everything), which would make me more interested.

This luxury SUV model from Audi may not be suitable for those who prefer a quieter ride. However, it is important to note that every vehicle has its unique features and characteristics. While this particular model may not have met your expectations, Audi continues to produce high-quality vehicles that are enjoyed by many. Thank you for your feedback.

I recently upgraded from a Honda SUV to a brand new 2020 Audi Q3 SUV. While I was initially excited about my purchase, I unfortunately experienced some mechanical and electrical issues about 3 months into owning the car. Despite these issues, I still love the overall size, style, interior, and screen controls of the Q3. However, I did experience some problems with the 4 cylinder engine, such as jerking when going up hills or making more noise when accelerating too fast. Over the last 3 years, I have had a few issues with the car, including a skylight leak, a screen display that would never have the correct day or time, and a malfunctioning child lock that had to be replaced multiple times. While these issues were inconvenient, I appreciate that Audi was able to fix them for me. I also experienced some more serious issues, such as the parking brake activating by itself and the alarm going off randomly, which were related to the child lock malfunction. Additionally, the screen completely shut off and went into a 'training' mode that only Audi could reprogram. Finally, I have had some trouble with the USB outlet only connecting my phone about 50% of the time, and while Audi replaced the outlet once, they have not yet found a permanent fix. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my Q3 and appreciate the help I received from Audi in resolving the problems I encountered.

This car is a huge disappointment. The driving experience is not up to par with its price range. Despite having a Turbo4, the torque is lacking and the pedal has no feel. The 8-speed transmission is a waste and the shifting is sluggish. The car does not respond well to throttle input and downshifts too slowly. Even in sport mode, the performance is only slightly better. The car struggles on hills and takes too long to figure out which gear to use. The tech features are overwhelming and confusing. Despite having leather seats and fancy tech, the car is not worth its $43K price tag. It feels like a $20K car with added features. I would not recommend this car.

Truly a joy to drive! Your exceptional handling is matched by a well-appointed interior. Plus, the ability to cast Google maps, Waze, or other apps ensures up-to-date navigation. The only issue is the inability to fold mirrors.

I absolutely love the technology in this SUV! I went for the top line which comes with the digital cockpit and it's fantastic. As an Android user, I was really pleased to find a vehicle that caters to both Android and Apple users. The WiFi hotspot is a great feature too - my husband loves being able to work on his laptop and take conference calls while he's a passenger. The design is also beautiful - it's sporty and luxurious at the same time. There's plenty of space for my needs and the backseat is really roomy for passengers. What's even better is that the Q3 comes with a lot of features as standard, whereas other brands require you to add a lot of packages and/or ala carte. The driving performance is also fantastic!

I love your car! It's the perfect combination of cute and sporty. I love that it has all-wheel drive, so you can take it up the mountain, but you can also drive along the beach with your sunroof open and windows down. It's the perfect combination!

    You'll love it too!

Cars have become quite expensive. However, if you add premium features to a Toyota Rav4, Honda CRV or VW Tiguan, they can be priced comparably to an Audi Q3. While they may not be as luxurious or drive as well, they are still a great option. In terms of size, the Q3 is well designed to maximize space and can fit a bike, a dog, or even a trip to Costco. A family of 4 would be very comfortable on a long trip, but 5 might be a bit of a stretch, which is not that different from the others. Overall, the Q3 is a well-designed car that offers good value in this day and age of expensive cars.
