2007 Volkswagen Touareg problems
The Volkswagen Touareg (German pronunciation: ) is a car produced by German automaker Volkswagen Group since 2002 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant. Considered to be the first luxury mid-size SUV from Volkswagen, the vehicle was named after the nomadic Tuareg people, inhabitants of the Saharan interior in North Africa. Originally, the Touareg was developed together with the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7, and as of October 2020, the Touareg was developed together with the Audi Q8, the Bentley Bentayga and the Lamborghini Urus. This family of vehicles are all unibody SUVs with independent suspension. The first generation (2002–2010) offered five, six, eight, ten and twelve-cylinder engine choices.
Development
The Volkswagen Touareg (internally designated Typ 7L) was developed as a joint venture project by Porsche and the Volkswagen Group, involving the Audi and Volkswagen brands. During the initial development phase of the Typ 7L and the early years of its production, Porsche operated as an independent entity, not affiliated with the Volkswagen Group. The sports car market is known for its fluctuations. In response to these market conditions, Porsche's CEO at the time, Wendelin Wiedeking, sought to diversify the company's product range. This strategy included the introduction of Porsche's first four-door vehicle. A team in Weissach, Germany, of over 300, led by Klaus-Gerhard Wolpert, developed the Volkswagen Group PL71 platform. Now it is shared between the Touareg, the Audi Q7, and the Porsche Cayenne. However, there are styling, equipment, performance, and technical differences between them. The Touareg and Cayenne both seat five, while the Q7's stretched wheelbase accommodates a third row for seven passengers.
The Volkswagen Touareg is built at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, alongside the Audi Q7. The Cayenne is assembled by Porsche in Leipzig, Germany, at a facility built for Cayenne production.
Due to the demand and the exchange rates of euros against the US dollar, as well as different pricing and environmental policies in the US, the V6 and V8 engine variants make up most of Volkswagen's American Touareg offering. Compared to other Volkswagen-branded vehicles sold in the US, which are aimed at the mass market, Touaregs came in more upscale trims and competed with other luxury crossover SUVs.

Common 2007 Volkswagen Touareg problems
The Volkswagen Touareg, produced from 2004 to 2017, is known for its luxury and performance. However, the 2007 model year has been identified as the worst year for the Touareg due to several common problems reported by owners.
- Electrical Faults: Some 2007 Touareg owners have reported electrical faults, such as the battery draining constantly or non-starting if not driven daily. These issues can persist despite replacing the battery, alternator, and timing belt, indicating an underlying electrical problem.
- Brake Pad Wear: The 2007 Touareg is known for excessive brake pad wear, which can result in poor braking performance. The only solution is to fit new brake pads.
- Oil Leaks: Oil leaks are common in the 2007 Touareg, particularly around the back of the engine. This is typically caused by a leak in the seal ring of the engine speed sensor, which is located between the fuel pump and the water pump. Replacing the seal will stop the leak.
- Gearbox Problems: The 2007 Touareg, being a capable off-road vehicle, can experience front differential issues, especially with heavy off-road use. This results in an intermittent whining noise coming from the gearbox area. Fitting a new front differential is the only solution.
- Heavy Vibration: If you notice a heavy vibration coming from underneath the 2007 Touareg, it may indicate a problem with the prop shaft. This issue can be resolved by inspecting and repairing the prop shaft as necessary.
These common problems, along with the overall reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5, suggest that the 2007 Volkswagen Touareg may not be the most reliable choice for potential buyers. It is recommended to consider other model years with fewer reported issues for a more dependable ownership experience.
What is the disadvantage of Volkswagen Touareg?
One of the most common issues that has plagued the Touareg is electrical issues. Over the years, many owners have complained about power windows, door locks, interior lighting, and infotainment system issues. A common problem that has been reported is the vehicle's wiring harnesses.
How long does a VW Touareg engine last?
A typical Volkswagen Touareg has the potential to go for around 300,000 miles with excellent care. This number is solid and something to boast about for VW, though to get to this point, you must keep up with the care of your machine or it will die far sooner.
Is Touareg expensive to maintain?
The Touareg is a big, heavy, complex 4x4 that was expensive when new and remains just as expensive to fix when older, especially if you use main dealers. And when they are older they are more likely to be suffering from parts wearing out and / or breaking.
Which Touareg engine is best?
What it's like to drive, and how quiet it is. The entry-level engine for the VW Touareg range is the 3.0 TDI V6 and we reckon it's the one to go for. With 228bhp, it gives you all the grunt you could ever need, officially sprinting from 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds, and can tow up to 3,500kg.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-04
- VIN: WVGZE77L77D
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My vehicle has a fuel filter problem This car has a total of 3 recalls and the fuel filter flange is one of the recalls I’ve been told they fixed it before but I’ve never gotten it fixed maybe the previous owner I took it Volkswagen they said I have to pay for the recall. But what happens when the repair fails?
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-11-17
- VIN: WVGZE77L77D
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: VOLKSWAGEN SENT ME A RECALL NOTICE ON OUR 2007 TOUAREG. THIS INVOLVED THE FUEL FILTER FLANGE ON THE CAR. IT SPECIFICALLY SAID IF YOU ARE SMELLING GASOLINE TAKE IT TO THE DEALER RIGHT AWAY. IN AUGUST 2017 WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THEY SAID AT THE TIME NOTHING WAS WRONG. WE STARTED SMELLING GAS FUMES COMING FROM THE CAR IN NOV. 2017 AND TOOK IT TO VILLAGE VOLKSWAGEN IN CHATTANOOGA TN. THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE FUEL FILTER FLANGE THAT WAS AT FAULT AND ACCORDING TO THEM, VOLKSWAGEN REFUSED TO REPLACE THE PART OR PAY FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. AS THIS RECALL INVOLVES POTENTIALLY HAVING THE VEHICLE THAT MY WIFE USES TO TRANSPORT OUR GRANDCHILDREN AROUND TO CATCH ON FIRE, I WAS THEN DIRECTLY TOLD DO YOU WANT US TO REPAIR IT OR NOT AND THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS WAS $652.00. I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND SHOWED VILLAGE VOLKSWAGEN THE DIAGNOSIS AND EVERYONE AGREED IT WAS THE PART MENTIONED IN THE RECALL WARRANTY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSON, BEN, AT VILLAGE VOLKSWAGEN SAID THAT VOLKSWAGEN REFUSAL TO HELP WITH THESE REPAIRS WAS BASED ON THE FACT THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO THE CAR. LIKE I WAS GOING TO CRAWL UNDER THE CAR MY WIFE DRIVES WITH OUR GRANDCHILDREN AND FIDDLE WITH SOME FLANGE? THE INSINUATION WAS VERY AGGRAVATING TO SAY THE LEAST AND SO I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THIS REPAIR ACCOMPLISHED OR HAVE A VEHICLE THAT PUTS MY FAMILY IN DANGER. I FEEL THAT VOLKSWAGEN SHOULD HAVE COVERED THESE COSTS. I AM ATTACHING BOTH THE RECALL NOTICE AND THE RECEIPT FROM VILLAGE VOLKSWAGEN SHOWING THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I ASKED ON NOV 17, 2017 TO SPEAK TO THE GENERAL MANAGER AT VILLAGE VOLKSWAGEN AND WAS TOLD HE WAS NOT IN THAT DAY AND WAS NOT OFFERED ANYONE ELSE TO TALK TO.

My previous SUV was an Acura MDX, which I was totally satisfied with. However, the Volkswagen drives so much better and feels better (it has that euro feeling). It gets the same mileage, but has much more power. Every day, I enjoy the vehicle more and more. It's not the Volkswagen our parents had years ago.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your mid-sized premium SUV! It's great to know that it handles well and makes you feel safe. It's always a pleasure to hear when a vehicle surpasses expectations. Thank you for sharing your positive experience!

This mid-size SUV is a fantastic vehicle. The fit and finish, as well as the quality of materials, are excellent, on par with what you'd expect from any of the top German automakers. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after test driving it, I fell in love. The ride quality is outstanding, and the engine provides excellent acceleration and a fun driving experience. If it continues to perform this well, I would definitely consider buying another VW. It's safe to say that this is not your Grandpa's VW anymore; it's a modern art masterpiece.

I really enjoyed driving this car! It was incredibly comfortable and had so many great features. When I was looking for a car, my first choice was the x5, but it was just too expensive since it had just come out. However, I was able to get this car fully loaded with all the features I wanted, including a navigation system, rear view camera, better leather, folding mirrors, and a power steering wheel. One of my favorite things about this car was the information display between the tachometer and speedometer, which provided me with a lot of useful information about my vehicle. Although I did find the steering a bit loose, especially at low speeds, and I thought the design was a bit boring, even the rims. Overall, I didn't have any technical issues with the vehicle. I recently purchased an x5 and it's even better, but I still have fond memories of this car!

I'm so glad to hear that you love your Touareg! The build quality is truly top-notch, from the luxurious interior to the efficient 3.6L FSI V6 engine that feels like a V8. It's great to hear that the car is comfortable and quiet, making for a really nice ride. I also appreciate that the Touareg is a unique choice, standing out from the more common X5s and MDXs on the road. It sounds like you've found a real keeper!

I would advise against purchasing this lawn ornament as it has not been reliable for me. I have only driven it for 10 miles and it has already required multiple repairs. It has been sitting unused for the past 3 months and has become a bit of a money pit. I would recommend investing in a more reliable option instead.

I looked at several SUVs such as the Tribeca, Sante Fe, and CR-V, but I ultimately chose the VW because of its spacious leg room and comfortable ride. However, after driving it for 4,900 miles, I regret not buying a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing a brake squeal every time I apply the brakes, and the VW dealer has informed me that it's a normal part of the brake design. I feel embarrassed to drive anyone in my vehicle, especially considering the amount of money I spent on it. While the comfort and handling of the vehicle are exceptional, the brake squeal is a significant trade-off. If the issue cannot be resolved, I may have to file a Lemon Law complaint. Despite this issue, I appreciate the comfort and handling of the vehicle, but I am hesitant to purchase another VW in the future.

Although my wife and I were initially happy with our leased VW Touareg, we have unfortunately experienced some issues with the car in the last 20,000 miles. While we have had problems with the sunroof, windows, and engine control unit, the service we received from VW has not been up to our expectations. We have had multiple failures of different systems and parts, which has been frustrating. Overall, we would not recommend this car due to our experiences. Thank you for considering our feedback.

My wife and I initially enjoyed our Touareg for the first 45,000 miles. However, we have experienced some issues since then, such as the check engine light coming on, bad cooling fans, and sunroof and window malfunctions. We have also had some trouble with the power seats and X brake. During our last visit to the dealership, we experienced some difficulty with the brakes, which was frustrating. We have found that VW's policy is to not warranty items that do not completely fail, such as our power seats which made a grinding noise and would freeze in the down position. Despite these issues, we still appreciate some of the features of the Touareg. It is important to be aware of these potential issues when considering a VW vehicle.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I recently purchased this SUV used, and it had pretty low mileage for a VW. Mind you, I do own 7 VWs! Unfortunately, the SUV has barely 110k miles on it and I already have to replace the motor. It gave me an oil pressure stop engine warning, and that's why I have to put in a new motor.
