In 2019, the Passat NMS program was split into two as the North American one continued being produced on an older platform while the Chinese Passat moved on to the MQB platform, which resulted in Volkswagen marketed three models under the Passat nameplate globally at that time. The North American Passat was discontinued after the 2022 model year.
Volkswagen ended the production of the saloon Passat for the European market in 2022. The B9 Passat, released in 2023, is only available in an estate body style. The Passat continues to be available as a saloon in China.

- Summary: As the trunk hatch opens and closes, the wiring to the hatch wears down, frays, and then shorts or breaks. This killed our rear view camera, which is a safety issue. This also can cut off light to the license plate. The rear hatch also cannot then be opened from the rear of the car, as the handle is electrical and gets disconnected, possible causing another safety issue.

- Summary: Drove the car to and from work that day with no problems. Also, went back to work a 2nd side job that evening with no issues. Got home, shut the car off and when my wife and I went out to go to work the next morning at 5 a.m., the car wouldn't start at all. Wouldn't even click. Did a lot of research because I had the starter replaced about 2 weeks before and knew it couldn't be the starter and also had bought a new battery when I had the starter replaced as well, so knew it wouldn't be the battery. After a lot, I mean a lot of research online, finally came to the decision it was the timing chain tensioner was faulty. When I went to replace the tensioner for the timing chain, I took my camera and put it in the cylinder heads and found out that there was 2 broken valves in the number 3 piston. One was broken and sideways in the piston and the other just broken. I'm not sure whether a rod has gone through the bottom of the head or not, couldn't get my camera to go that far down. So now I have no vehicle what-so-ever to drive back and forth to work. My wife had to resign from her job because she had no way to get there everyday and I have to pay someone gas money weekly to pick me up and bring me home from work so needless to say, we are currently struggling, can't pay our bills because my wife cannot get a job and now I have to figure out how to repair this damage that should have been made a recall for these volkswagens because by the looks of things, there are over 100 people that have had this same problem. An engine is going to be between $4,000 and $6,000 to repair and I have no way to fix this at that price. So now I am probably going to have to just junk the car.

- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FIRE EMITTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND WITHIN A MOMENT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. THE QUINCY FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS PRESENT AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE FUEL LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY DESTROYED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V509000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
2010 Volkswagen Passat recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat.

- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2009-2014 Volkswagen CC, 2010-2014 Golf, 2010-2014 Eos, 2007-2010 Passat Sedan and Wagon, and 2012-2014 Passat vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternative inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 16, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Q9. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-078.

- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2009-2016 Volkswagen CC, 2006-2010 Passat and Passat Wagon vehicles. Interruption of electrical power to the fuel pump control module may cause the fuel pump to fail.
- Consequence: If the fuel pump fails, the engine will stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump control module, free of charge. The recall began June 26, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 20AE.

- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Golf, 2007-2010 Passat sedans and wagon, 2012-2014 Passat sedan and Eos, 2009-2014 CC, 2009-2012 Audi Q5, 2010-2012 S5 Cabriolet and 2010-2012 Audi A5 Cabriolet vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflators, free of charge. Volkswagen issued an interim notification to owners on April 12, 2016, and will send a second notification when parts are available. Volkswagen will notify owners again once parts are available. Volkswagen owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Audi owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen CC, and Passat, 2010-2013 Eos, 2011-2014 Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Tiguan, and 2012-2014 Jetta Sportwagen vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.
- Consequence: A loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cover over the steering wheel clock spring if the air bag light is off. If the airbag light is on and the steering wheel clock spring requires replacement, dealers will install a new steering wheel clock spring. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987.

I actually purchased this car via internet-telephone. The dealer was low pressure and the salesman was well-versed in the car's features and professional. I would definitely buy another VW. This is my third and while the first one had its quirks, the last two have been a dream.

I upgraded from a Jetta 1.8T with a manual. I really love the DSG transmission because it acts like a manual without having to use a clutch. However, my wife doesn't like it as much because it doesn't have the smoothness of an automatic. The car has all the features I wanted without any unnecessary excess. I mean, who really needs an auto-dimming mirror? Can't you just reach for it? It's a very sporty car, and I highly recommend getting APR to add 50 more horsepower.

The 2010 Passat is a great family car with plenty of room for 4 or 5 people. The comfortable front seats make it perfect for all-day cruising. The car has good power and fuel economy, and some very thoughtful design features. It retains a strong German character in ride, handling, interior design, and overall build quality. It is just about the only reasonably-priced mid-size European car sold in the U.S. Although it has some weaknesses, such as slight hesitation when accelerating and the absence of certain features, such as auto-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic climate control, and rain-sensing wipers that were found in previous versions of the Passat and most major competitors, it is still a great car overall.

I recently traded in my BMW 328i for a Passat, and I was a bit nervous that I might be 'stepping down' in terms of quality. However, I just wanted a slightly bigger car that wouldn't rattle my teeth every time I went over a bump. I'm happy to say that the Passat delivered exactly what I was looking for. It's incredibly quiet and provides a smooth ride. I can hardly believe that it only has a 4-cylinder engine, but it boasts 200 hp and handles the road very well. So far, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase - it's a comfortable ride with plenty of room inside.

I purchased this car from a private seller with 108K miles for $6k. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the car from day one. Over the course of 4,000 miles, I had to replace several parts, which cost me around $10k. The car also misfires on different cylinders and my regular service shop was unable to fix it. Additionally, there are some cosmetic issues such as significant turbo lag, a low-hanging headliner, a broken CD player, and a poor audio system. The plastic handles to lower the second-row seating also broke easily. There is also a mystery problem that causes the check engine light to come on. On the bright side, the car has a cute-looking wagon design, great space, and comfortable seats. It also has a good height and enough body to make you feel safe while driving. However, it's important to note that this car is not compatible with any remote start systems.
