It is available for inspection upon request. Safety Implications: The failure of the engine posed a significant risk to my safety and the safety of others. When the engine failed while I was driving on the freeway, it resulted in a sudden loss of power and alarming knocking sounds. This sudden loss of power on a busy highway endangered my life and the lives of other drivers around me. Confirmation by Dealer or Service Center: The problem has been confirmed by a Volkswagen dealership. I had the vehicle towed to Bill marines Volkswagen dealership for diagnosis, and they assessed that the engine had "jumped time" and the valves were bent, rendering the car undrivable. Inspections by Manufacturer, Authorities, or Others: The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any other relevant authorities at this point. However, I have sought assistance and evaluation from a Volkswagen dealership, which is an authorized service center for the brand. They were the first to diagnose the catastrophic engine failure. Warning Lamps, Messages, or Symptoms: Prior to the engine failure, there were no warning lamps or messages indicating a problem. There were no noticeable symptoms or signs of an impending failure. The failure occurred suddenly while driving on the freeway, without any prior indication of trouble. - Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Beetle and Beetle Convertibles vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver's side air bag, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed February 16, 2023. Owners will receive a second notice once remedy parts become available; anticipated September 2023. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69EM.

- Summary: Tenneco Automotive (Tenneco) is recalling certain Beck/Arnley Master Cylinders, part number 072-9831, sold as aftermarket or replacement parts for 2004-2018 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2012-2019 Volkswagen Beetle vehicles. The fluid seal crimp on the master cylinder may be insufficient, causing brake fluid to leak or the cylinder to come apart.
- Consequence: If there is a brake fluid leak, it can reduce braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Beck/Arnley will notify the distributors that sold the master cylinders and will work with the distributors to notify the end users. Affected master cylinders will be exchanged for a new master cylinder (part number 072-9990), free of charge. The recall began October 30, 2020. Owners may contact Tenneco customer service at 1-800-625-9319.

- Consequence: Removing the key while the shift lever is in a position other than "Park" increases the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

In the affected vehicles, the camshaft lobe that drives the brake vacuum pump may shear off, resulting in a loss of brake assist.
- Consequence: If the camshaft lobe shears off there would be a loss of brake assist, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

A sealing cap at the fuel rail may fail, allowing fuel to leak into the engine compartment.

- Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Beetle vehicles manufactured June 13, 2013, to July 3, 2014. The glass sunroofs in the affected vehicles may break when the vehicles are operated over a hard road surface or strike a pothole.
- Consequence: Vehicle occupants could be injured by falling glass. A sunroof break during vehicle operation also increases the risk of driver distraction and a resulting vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sunroof, free of charge. The recall began on December 15, 2015. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 60B9.

I purchased the 2012 Beetle last Saturday at a great price. I was initially considering the Golf, but I was won over by the Beetle's style and feel. Although I, like many others, have experienced difficulty with the windows, I am confident that the issue will be resolved with enough pressure on the manufacturer. Had a 1998, 2001 and now a 2014. Wow, I can't get enough of them! This 2014 blew me away. It's so much fun to drive, comfortable, and has a smooth ride. It's also so unique. I really hope they never stop making them!

My car has been plagued with misfires for the past two years, despite proper maintenance according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The issues started with an ignition coil, followed by another ignition coil, a fouled spark plug, and a purge valve. Unfortunately, the engine has now suffered a catastrophic failure at just over 100k miles, and the cost to replace it, along with possibly the turbo, is estimated to be between $5k-$7k. Despite this setback, I remain confident in my decision to avoid VW in the future due to their lack of reliability.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my new 2012 Turbo Beetle that I purchased three months ago. While I absolutely love driving the car, I have been experiencing some issues with the drivers and passenger windows. They go down without any problem, but when I try to close them, they stop and go. Unfortunately, the car has been in the dealership three times for the same repair, and I am not confident that VW will be able to correct the problem. Since the dealership has been working on the problem, I have noticed some wind noise and other issues with the windows that I did not have before. I am hoping that we can work together to find a solution to this problem, as I am considering returning the car due to this issue. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

When your battery dies, your car will give you every warning in the book such as 'Key not in range', 'Key defective', 'Brake error', and 'Parking brake'. However, when your battery finally fails (with no indication other than the key), it basically does what a normal car does - it doesn't start. I had a similar experience where I replaced the battery in my car, only to find out that it was just a dead battery. I didn't want to pay the reprogramming fee of $99 to discover this, and I'm glad I didn't. All I needed was a jump and a new battery. The car didn't indicate that at all, but it runs great now!

My wife and I are disappointed with VW's recent actions. However, my love for the brand has not completely diminished. Despite some minor issues such as the windows and oil leaks, I have enjoyed driving my Beetle and taking care of it. I recently had to replace the valve cover gasket and another gasket during the 80k maintenance, which cost me an additional $750. Additionally, I had to replace the water pump for $1000. While I understand that tires are a necessary expense, I just spent $800 on new ones. Despite these setbacks, I am determined to keep a level head and not sell the car. My goal is to reach 300,000 miles with it.
