- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Corolla, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Lexus ES350, Lexus RX350, Lexus RX450H, 2021 Sienna Hybrid, Lexus ES250, 2020-2022 Camry, Camry Hybrid, and ES300H vehicles. A short circuit may develop in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor, preventing the front passenger air bag from deploying.
- Consequence: An air bag that does not deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the sensor as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed February 2, 2024. A second notice will be mailed once the remedy is available. Multiple phases are planned through 2026. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. - Summary: Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Lexus LX 600, Lexus NX 350h, Lexus NX 450h+, Toytoa RAV4 Hybrid, 2021-2022 Lexus LS 500h, Toyota Mirai, RAV4 PRIME, Sienna, Venza, and 2020-2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid vehicles. The Skid Control ECU software may not turn on the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system when the vehicle is restarted after the driver has disabled the VSC system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
- Consequence: Driving with a deactivated stability control system increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will update the Skid Control ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 27, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA03. Lexus' number for this recall is 22LA01.

The vehicle has great build quality. I opted for the LE trim model and it has all the features I need. The fuel economy has been consistently great, around 37mpg. I checked the display against miles driven and gallons used and the mpg was virtually the same between the two. The car has plenty of acceleration for my driving needs and is generally very quiet. Although the engine might be considered noisy, you really have to step on it to make noise. I had to change my acceleration habits to get the fuel economy, but I found that I was keeping up or going faster than others accelerating around me. The third seat has no room for adults as others have stated, but we never use it and have it laying flat for more cargo space. I got the cargo cover and net across the back of the cargo area, which are really needed for security and to prevent items from dropping out on your foot. They should come with the vehicle. Unfortunately, there is no lumbar adjustment on the driver's seat, which is not ideal. Perhaps higher trim models have that option. Overall, it's a great vehicle for a family, and for just two people with some adults sitting in the back at times, it's perfect.

We really like this vehicle! It feels more solid and heavier than the Camry Hybrid we traded in, plus it has AWD which is fantastic. While we did notice that the wind impacts fuel mileage more than the Camry, we still managed to average 29 miles/gallon during our first three trips in freezing temperatures. We haven't had a chance to take it on a warm weather trip yet, but our current local mileage (city & highway mix) is 33.5. The AWD system worked great on our snow-covered road, even better than our AWD Subaru!

I have owned 3 Highlanders. The 2014 and 2017 models got about 20 mpg, while the 2021 hybrid model gets an impressive 35 mpg. Not only that, but it also provides a much smoother ride than the earlier two vehicles. The hybrid version only costs around $1,200 more than the regular Highlander, and it should pay for itself in about 3 years.

I was torn between the Highlander Hybrid and the Kia Sorento Hybrid, but ultimately decided on the Highlander. Although I loved the styling, 3rd row seating, and slightly better mileage of the Sorento, the cabin felt a bit noisier and less plush. However, I'm still considering the Sorento Plug-In in a few years once they work out the kinks. So far, I've put 4500 miles on my 2021 Highlander Hybrid Limited (with the 12Overall, I'm really glad that I made this purchase. It's a car that can do a bit of everything very well, even if it's not perfect. Plus, with the unpredictable fuel prices these days, it's definitely a winner.

The platinum hybrid model we purchased has been a great vehicle for the past 2 months, equipped with all the features we wanted and more. However, we have experienced some issues recently where the vehicle shuts down and requires a jump start to restart. This is unacceptable for a brand new car with less than 1k miles on it. Despite the mechanic at the dealership being unable to identify the problem, we believe that this issue should not be occurring. Overall, we are confident in the quality of this vehicle and hope to have this issue resolved soon.

I recently purchased a 2021 Highlander and have noticed an issue with the hybrid system. While I have previously owned a 2013 Highlander Hybrid and currently own a Rav4 Hybrid, both of which were excellent, this new model seems to have a flaw. If the car is left idle without moving, it runs completely on 12 volts, which drains the battery quickly and requires a jump start. Unlike my previous hybrids, this model does not start the hybrid engine if the 12v battery is going down. If stuck in traffic, it is recommended to turn the system off to avoid any issues. Overall, I have had a different experience with this hybrid compared to my previous ones.

undefinedI understand your frustration with the car not having a self-lock feature when you walk away, especially when you have your hands full with a toddler and infant. It can be inconvenient to have to manually lock the car or touch the door handle. However, it's good to know that the app notifies you when the car is unlocked so you can remember to lock it. Overall, I appreciate your honest review of the car. While the fuel economy could be better, the interior is spacious and comfortable, and the car has an attractive design. It's unfortunate that the engine and wind noise detract from the driving experience. I can understand why you wouldn't lease this car again, but I hope that you find a car that better suits your needs in the future. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

We recently test drove a 2021 Highlander Hybrid and 2021 Sienna Hybrid at the dealership and we absolutely fell in love with the Sienna! While we enjoyed the Highlander, we did notice a couple of issues. Firstly, the third row seat is of much lesser quality than the middle row seats, and secondly, there is very little storage if using the third row seat. On the other hand, the Sienna's third row seat is the same quality as the second row seats, and there is twice as much rear storage than the Highlander. In addition, the Sienna has a much smoother drive and feel than the Highlander.
