- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Corolla, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Lexus ES350, Lexus RX350, Lexus RX450H, 2021 Sienna Hybrid, Lexus ES250, 2020-2022 Camry, Camry Hybrid, and ES300H vehicles. A short circuit may develop in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor, preventing the front passenger air bag from deploying.
- Consequence: An air bag that does not deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the sensor as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed February 2, 2024. A second notice will be mailed once the remedy is available. Multiple phases are planned through 2026. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. - Summary: Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Lexus LX 600, Lexus NX 350h, Lexus NX 450h+, Toytoa RAV4 Hybrid, 2021-2022 Lexus LS 500h, Toyota Mirai, RAV4 PRIME, Sienna, Venza, and 2020-2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid vehicles. The Skid Control ECU software may not turn on the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system when the vehicle is restarted after the driver has disabled the VSC system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
- Consequence: Driving with a deactivated stability control system increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will update the Skid Control ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 27, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA03. Lexus' number for this recall is 22LA01.

I recently purchased a 2021 Venza Limited, fully loaded, but after just 3000 miles, I realized it wasn't the right fit for me. Although it looked sleek in photos and had positive online reviews, the ride was too stiff and the road noise was irritating. I decided to trade it in for a Highlander Platinum, which I initially overlooked due to its family hauler aura and style. However, I was pleasantly surprised by its solid build, smooth drive, and ample space. The infotainment and technology are a step up, and the interior fit and finish is excellent. I appreciate the knobs and buttons, as I'm not a fan of 100% touch screens. As a semi-retired individual, I didn't think I needed the space, but I was wrong. The Highlander has plenty of power and gets good gas mileage. Overall, I'm very happy with my decision and believe that Toyota Hybrids are some of the most dependable cars on the road.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention that I've been experiencing a bit of trouble with the driver's side mirror on my vehicle. Specifically, I've noticed that it vibrates quite a bit, especially when I'm traveling at higher speeds. Unfortunately, this vibration makes it difficult for me to see images clearly, which is definitely a safety concern. When I brought this issue to the attention of the dealer and regional field rep, they informed me that this is 'normal for this model'. While it's possible that this issue may be present in other similar vehicles, I don't believe that it's normal or acceptable. Unfortunately, Toyota has declined to address this issue any further, which is disappointing. I'm now considering looking into the Lemon Laws to see if there's any recourse available to me. Driving on twisty two lane roads in moderately hilly country with very few stop lights can result in better gas mileage than the EPA rating, perhaps 3-4 mpg better. I live out of town on roads without painted lines and with only one stop light in the county I live in. With only a couple of fill-ups so far, I'm absolutely amazed at the gas mileage. The car rides smoothly, is a joy to drive, and is not noisy at all. For those complaining about engine noise and lower than expected mileage, they must be talking about high-speed interstate travel which I rarely ever encounter. I've made a couple of long trips on the interstate and achieved 38 mpg. My typical local mileage has been 39 to 41 mpg per tank. My other car is a 2028 Mazda CX-5, but I can't believe that I think the Highlander handles better. Maybe I need new tires on the Mazda? I've had my Highlander for 5000 miles so far and I love it. It has a smooth, gliding ride and handles turns unexpectedly well. I like driving it, perhaps more than my Mazda CX-5. It seems well-made and worth the money. I don't use the third row and have the platinum with captain's chairs. I never need to carry more than four people. I would like the third row to be removable. The only issue I have is with how fast forward works on podcasts, it's too slow. Other than that, it's hard to find fault. I've had no trouble exceeding 36 mpg on every tank full. I've had it for nearly a year now and have had no problems at all. It has plenty of power for me and a comfortable ride. Nothing much compares if you want a hybrid SUV with some size to it. I just had my one-year free oil change and check and I'm still loving it. It's spring and gas mileage is back up around 40 from a low during winter of 37. As a friendly reminder, please avoid listening to the radio (accessory mode) for over two hours waiting on your wife at the doctor to prevent any issues with the battery.I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the Highlander. I recently discovered that the 12V battery can deplete quite quickly. Did you know that unless the lead acid battery is above a certain voltage, you aren't permitted to start the car (software)? To avoid this, I now use headphones to listen to podcasts and avoid accessory mode for extended periods. I also carry a small jump-start battery, just in case. I think it's important for owners to be aware of this. Despite this, I still love my Highlander! It's still getting 38-40 mpg and is quiet and smooth. I haven't had any other issues in the 2 1/2 years I've owned it. At my last free maintenance check/oil change, they informed me of tire wear and brake pad wear. It seemed excessive to me, considering I drive very conservatively and use regenerative braking almost exclusively to get max mpg. Nearly all of my miles were local, non-interstate, at or below 55 mph. I drove about 14,000 miles. These findings don't make sense to me. At this rate, I'll need brakes and tires at 45K. I've been told that regenerative braking saves on brake pads and slow, gentle driving saves on tires. Otherwise, though, I still highly recommend the car. Thanks for listening!

I just got this new Highlander Hybrid for one week and it has been so awesome! I traded in my 2014 RAV4 for the 2021 Highlander Hybrid and the experience has been great. The mpg is fantastic, not to mention all the high tech features the vehicle has to offer. It's so smooth on the road that you don't feel a thing. If I could, I would get a second Highlander Hybrid. It's definitely the best SUV hybrid out there in its class!

It can be inconvenient to have to manually lock the car or touch the door handle. However, it's good to know that the app notifies you when the car is unlocked so you can remember to lock it. Overall, I appreciate your honest review of the car. While the fuel economy could be better, the interior is spacious and comfortable, and the car has an attractive design. It's unfortunate that the engine and wind noise detract from the driving experience. We recently test drove a 2021 Highlander Hybrid and 2021 Sienna Hybrid at the dealership and we absolutely fell in love with the Sienna! While we enjoyed the Highlander, we did notice a couple of issues. Firstly, the third row seat is of much lesser quality than the middle row seats, and secondly, there is very little storage if using the third row seat. On the other hand, the Sienna's third row seat is the same quality as the second row seats, and there is twice as much rear storage than the Highlander. In addition, the Sienna has a much smoother drive and feel than the Highlander.

We have been loyal Toyota customers for 15 years, drawn to their superb quality and low annual maintenance costs. However, we were disappointed to learn that Toyota has recently moved to an annual fee-based system for remote start. We were surprised to find out that remote start was included in our new Highlander Hybrid, but only if we paid an $80.00 annual subscription fee. Interestingly, our 2016 Highlander Hybrid's remote start does not require an annual fee. The only difference is a software change that now requires a yearly subscription. Lia Toyota, our dealer, was willing to work with us as much as they could, but Toyota corporate was not as helpful. The dealership even said that the owner of the dealership called corporate and they were not very accommodating. While it may be cheaper to purchase an outside remote start system than to pay Toyota's annual fee, we are disappointed that Toyota is moving to an annual subscription model to increase their profit margins. We feel that this is unnecessary, especially considering the high cost of their vehicles. Had we known about this change, we may have reconsidered our decision to trade in our debt-free 2016 RAV4 for this new vehicle.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with you. I recently drove down the interstate at 78 mph for half the way and 81 mph for the other half, and I managed to get 22.7 mpg with a full tank! The terrain was mostly flat with a few rolling hills, but nothing too steep. I did notice that when I went over 65 mph, my mpg took a pretty big hit. Just thought I'd share in case it's helpful to you!
