Suzuki Xl-7 problems
The Suzuki XL-7 (styled as XL7 for the second generation) is a mid-size SUV sold by Suzuki from 1998 to 2009, over two generations. Slotted above the Grand Vitara in Suzuki's lineup, the XL-7 offered three-row seating. XL-7 stands for "Xtra Large 7-seater".
First generation (XL-7; 1998)
The first-generation XL-7 was a Suzuki design, had a body-on-frame construction, and was essentially a stretched Grand Vitara. The North American version had a Suzuki-designed 2.5- or 2.7-liter V6 engine, on a rear-wheel drive-based platform with optional four-wheel drive. Beginning in 2003, European versions were also available with a 2.0-liter Peugeot turbodiesel engine producing 109 PS (80 kW).
A unique trait in the US market in this segment was that the XL-7 was available with a five-speed manual transmission, in both five- and seven-seat variants.
When introduced, the XL-7 was the least expensive SUV available with three-row seating in North America. It was awarded the Consumers Digest "Best Buy" award. However, sales slowed as the vehicle aged relative to the competition.
In Thailand, the Grand Vitara XL-7 was Imported by Siam International Corporation Co. Ltd. on 2002.
In Indonesia, the Grand Escudo XL-7 was launched on July 19, 2003, at the 12th Gaikindo Auto Expo.

Love the truck! I traded my van and I'm really happy with the move. The dash and wood panel are great, and the auto A/C is a really nice feature to have. Plus, the rear A/C is great for keeping everything under control.

Great vehicle for the money! The size difference was our biggest adjustment, downsizing from an Expedition, but the features and performance have won us over. Additionally, the rear windows go all the way down! We have noticed some evidence of 'value engineering' in some places, but it has been tolerable so far.

I've owned my XL-7 for 2 months and I'm still absolutely in love with it. It's such a fun car to drive, especially in turns. Plus, after switching to synthetic oil, I've been getting an impressive 25 mpg on the freeway!

We have put 40,000 miles on this car and it has been absolutely reliable. It is by far the most dependable car I have ever owned. We recently took an 8,500 mile trip and found it to be a very comfortable ride. The Suzuki/Isuzu Dealer in Denver was a pleasure to deal with and we were able to get a great deal.

I bought this SUV 2 years ago and fell in love with it from the start. Besides normal wear and tear, the only problem I had was the ABS kicking in prematurely when I first bought it. However, once the problem was fixed with my warranty, the car has been nothing but awesome! Although the gas mileage is average, the way the car handles and the fun I have driving it makes up for it. I was sad to find out that I had to get rid of it due to child #3 and no room, but I am trading it in for a newer XL-7 with a 3rd row seat. I have driven several SUVs, but this has been the best by far! I love it on long trips, which I take often. If you're having numerous problems, you might have a lemon and should give the XL-7 a second chance.

The driver's cockpit can feel a bit cramped, and my leg rubs when driving. Additionally, if I push the seat back, there is not much leg room for passengers. It would be great if the car had better gas mileage, as it is currently only getting around 15 MPG. A low fuel light would also be a helpful addition, and smaller rear headrests would be appreciated. On the bright side, the car is definitely a good looker, and the leather interior is quite nice. The heated seats are a real treat, too. While the tire size could be improved, it's worth noting that the third seat is only suitable for very small children.

This SUV offers great value for the money, especially with its third row seat which is more affordable than other SUVs. Although there have been issues with the water pump seal, the dealer has fixed it twice. The fuel efficiency is not impressive, averaging only 15-16 mpg, and the defroster is subpar. Additionally, the Dunlop tires have worn out quickly, with significant wear at only 20K miles. However, overall this SUV is a confident choice for those seeking a budget-friendly option with a third row seat.

My Suzuki XL-7's air compressor pump/belt failed at 48,000 miles, costing $1,600 to replace. Despite living in Oregon and only using the A/C for 6 weeks of the year, I am confident that this was an unfortunate but isolated incident.
