Suzuki Xl-7 problems
The Suzuki XL-7 (styled as XL7 for the second generation) is a mid-size SUV sold by Suzuki from 1998 to 2009, over two generations. Slotted above the Grand Vitara in Suzuki's lineup, the XL-7 offered three-row seating. XL-7 stands for "Xtra Large 7-seater".
First generation (XL-7; 1998)
The first-generation XL-7 was a Suzuki design, had a body-on-frame construction, and was essentially a stretched Grand Vitara. The North American version had a Suzuki-designed 2.5- or 2.7-liter V6 engine, on a rear-wheel drive-based platform with optional four-wheel drive. Beginning in 2003, European versions were also available with a 2.0-liter Peugeot turbodiesel engine producing 109 PS (80 kW).
A unique trait in the US market in this segment was that the XL-7 was available with a five-speed manual transmission, in both five- and seven-seat variants.
When introduced, the XL-7 was the least expensive SUV available with three-row seating in North America. It was awarded the Consumers Digest "Best Buy" award. However, sales slowed as the vehicle aged relative to the competition.
In Thailand, the Grand Vitara XL-7 was Imported by Siam International Corporation Co. Ltd. on 2002.
In Indonesia, the Grand Escudo XL-7 was launched on July 19, 2003, at the 12th Gaikindo Auto Expo.

Suzuki is no longer in production, but it remains a reliable and sturdy car for long trips, especially for hospice nurses. In over 10 years of use, there was only one maintenance issue with the brake line. The CD player had to be replaced twice, but both times were covered under warranty. Overall, it is an excellent, reliable, and easily maintained vehicle with plenty of room and cargo space. It is a car that I love!

The car has adequate acceleration and good braking. I particularly like the side opening rear door. The gas mileage is typical for a 4x4 vehicle and the interior room is good. The driver's seat has adequate adjustment to make driving comfortable. All in all, it is a good purchase and fun to drive.

In 2005, we made the decision to purchase the XL7 used with only 6000 miles on it. It looked brand new and was priced significantly lower than a new one. It was a dealer's test drive car. Since we've owned it, we haven't had any issues. I replaced the brakes at 30000 miles and it only cost $70.00. It gets an average of 18 to 22 MPG combined HWY and City, and regular gas is just fine. It's very resistant, reliable, and comfortable. The 4WD is wonderful when needed, and long trips are nice and smooth. The features from the manufacturer are great. My wife's friends always compliment her on how young her car looks. It's a very good car for the price, and it's low cost to maintain mechanically. It looks and runs better now that it's paid for!

Although I have experienced some issues with oil and fuel leaks around the timing chain, I am confident in the dealer's ability to fix the problem, which they have done without any issues. Additionally, they have replaced the drive leather set covering. As someone who has purchased quite a few new cars in my 60 years, I typically keep them for 6 years with no motor leaks until the 6th year. Despite these initial issues, I remain confident in the overall quality of the car.

This SUV is a great choice if you're looking for a good deal. It offers plenty of interior flexibility, with rear seats that can be moved and folded down to create extra cargo space. It's also one of the few small-medium size SUVs that has enough cargo room behind the second row seat to fit two large dogs. While a minivan might be a better option, I needed 4WD and the only minivan with AWD is the Toyota Sienna, which was out of my budget. Overall, this SUV is a great choice for anyone looking for a spacious and versatile vehicle.

The SUV comes at a great price and has a third row seat, although it may be a bit small for frequent use. Despite my husband's dislike for the car, it has been trouble-free until the service engine light came on at 60k miles, which turned out to be a bad O2 sensor that was fixed for $250. Although the belt squealed briefly on a few occasions when turning on the A/C, it was nothing major. Unfortunately, at 100,000 miles, the A/C compressor locked up and caused the belt to break, resulting in a $1,400 repair. The fuel efficiency is not great, averaging 17-20 mpg.
