- Summary: I was driving and my car started to lurch and went into reduced power mode. I quickly pulled over and turned off the engine. It was towed into the shop, and we found that the timing chain had broken. We had just had our engine mounts replaced and the oil changed. The vehicle has been well maintained. I have seen the issue with the timing chain failure is a common problem in Saturns/GM from internet research. It looks like there was a service bulletin to bring the car in if Service light comes on and you “think” it’s due to premature wear of timing chain. Now we are told the engine needs to be replaced because it was damaged by the timing chain failure and it seems like a known defect that should be covered because it exceeded the value of the car to have such a fix.

- Summary: I just purchased this vehicle & on my way home with it the check engine light came on. I hooked up the diagnostic code scanner on the car and it threw several different codes PO700, PO752, PO420. There are specific transmission issues with this particular year, make, and model. My car has the exact same symptoms as the others that were recalled so why has mine not been recalled as well? It's malfunctioning just as the others described in the recall so clearly this is a common issue with these particular vehicles. I feel my car should be covered as part of the safety recall on the transmission and I need it repaired as soon as possible.

In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue and separate over time.
- Consequence: If the steel cable becomes fatigued and separates, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the seat occupant increasing the risk of an injury in a crash.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair and replace the lap pretensioner, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim notice will be mailed to owners in July 2014. A second notice will be mailed to owners once parts become available. The recall for the 2009-2010 model years began on July 11, 2014. The interim letter for the 2011-2014 model years were distributed on July 11, 2014. Our car has only 100k miles and has had standard replacement repairs such as brakes, H2O pump, AC compressor, and tires. It has been strictly city driven, so I use the best synthetic oil to keep all those sensors happy. Maintenance is key! It gets 24 MPG on the highway. Update: Our Outlook only averages 4000 miles annually, which can cause issues with the oil flow sensor not getting used enough to get cleaned while being driven. This can be frustrating with codes coming and going. To test if I have a bad 3.6, I decided to take a 1500 mile trip through 100⁰ heat and push the car hard at 80+ mph. The codes would chime in and quietly go out, but she still runs great! I love the interior, but when the opportunity arises to replace her, she's gone. With 104335 miles, there's just too much tech in this 3.6vvt.

I was really impressed when I read the reviews, and even more impressed when I test drove one. But when my wife drove it and said she loved it, we knew we had to buy it. I traded in my 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T (hemi) for this XR Outlook and I'm definitely not sorry I did. In my opinion, it's such a beautiful car/crossover. As a big guy, I'm so comfortable driving it. Plus, it has all the safety features you could need, with 3 different sets of airbags to protect you no matter what happens, AWD, traction control, and the super audio system with the sub-woofer sounds incredible. The car rides quietly with no wind noise. I really feel like it's a lot of car for the money.

Looking for a reliable 7-passenger car with under 100,000 miles for under $10,000 can be a daunting task, especially when you live in farming country and need a car that can go for a long time and hold your growing family. In 2016, we found the Outlook from a small dealer around the Twin Cities area in MN. It test drove nicely and we drove it 5 hours home with no problems. However, we did encounter some issues with the car shortly after. Despite these setbacks, we have been doing our best to keep the car running. Unfortunately, the transmission recently went and we are unable to afford a new one. While we regret buying the Outlook, we are grateful for our 2003 Saturn ION series 2, which has over 200,000 miles on it and still runs like a top. It's a great reminder that American-made cars can be reliable and long-lasting.

I am writing to express my outrage at the $3000 timing chain replacement, which included 17 hours of mechanic's labor. It is disappointing that GM approved a design that requires dropping the engine to replace the timing belts and chains. This is not the case for Japanese cars, where the cost is only $400-500. As an owner of a new 07 GM car, I have not experienced as many issues as some others, but I have had some problems. For example, the lift gate, which has a complicated motorized latch, failed and remained unlatched while driving, posing a serious safety risk. The repair cost me $400. Additionally, there have been some electrical issues. Despite these problems, I remain confident in the overall quality of my GM car.

I've owned the XR for about a year now and it has been great! The only minor drawback I've noticed is that the transmission can be a little sluggish when accelerating in automatic mode. However, this problem is easily solved by switching to manual mode. If you know you're about to enter a crowded interstate, simply downshift to 4 or 5 manually to have sufficient power to merge. The first time I did this in automatic mode, it scared the hell out of me! Another minor item to keep in mind is when filling the tank. There's a sleeve in the opening that partially seals the nozzle, which can trigger the shutoff prematurely. But, I've found that I can get an extra 2-3 gallons in the tank by pulling the nozzle back when filling. Hope this helps!

I have had some issues with this car since I bought it used in 2009. Unfortunately, it has caused me some concern and I feel uneasy every time I get in the car. Recently, my husband was driving it on a major highway and the car stalled out, making it difficult for him to steer. It was a scary experience and it made me think about what could have happened if it was me and my 6-year-old son in the car. I had to replace the transmission and struts, and now it's back in the shop for another issue. I would recommend doing some research before purchasing a car. Personally, I don't think I will buy another GM car again. I used to encourage people to buy American, but it seems like they don't always have our best interests in mind.

Although I purchased the vehicle used last summer, I had to replace the transmission shortly after. Fortunately, I had purchased an extended warranty which covered about 2/3 of the costs. Additionally, I have experienced issues with acceleration, rack & pinion, water pump, alternator/starter, and electrical components. It is concerning to see similar complaints from other consumers. However, I believe it is important to note that my experience may not be representative of all GMC Acadia owners. Nonetheless, I am considering other options for my next vehicle purchase.

Although my 08 Outlook had numerous issues, GM extended our warranty after we filed lemon law paperwork, which helped with some of the costly repairs. Despite the fact that GM and the local dealer had attempted to fix problems under warranty and failed, they were not cooperative in trying to help us with the costs of fixing the same issues afterwards. However, the XR model was spacious enough for 3 kids and 2 dogs and had a comfortable interior.

Although the car was roomy, attractive, and fun to drive, unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. I experienced several issues with the car, including warning lights, tailgate lock, audio system, transmission, power windows, and more.
