Common Porsche 718 boxster problems
The Porsche 718 Boxster has been a popular choice among sports car enthusiasts, but like any other vehicle, it is not without its issues. Here are some common problems reported by owners of this car, based on the search results:
- Engine overheating: Some owners of the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster reported intermittent overheating and low coolant levels, which were caused by leaks in the hose.
- Electrical issues: Some owners reported electrical problems, including issues with the folding roof and electric windows.
- Bodywork damage: The Porsche 718 Boxster is a low-slung sports car, which makes it more susceptible to damage from kerbs and potholes. Owners are advised to check the bodywork, alloy wheels, and folding roof for any signs of damage.
- Expensive repairs: Porsche ownership is not cheap, and repairs can be expensive. For example, a simple oil change and inspection at a Porsche dealership can cost over $300.
- Poor paint quality: Some owners reported issues with the quality of the paintwork, which can be a problem for a car that is designed to be driven enthusiastically.
- Reliability issues: The Porsche 718 Boxster ranked last out of 15 cars in the coupés, convertibles and sports car category in a recent reliability survey, with a concerning reliability rating of just 77.9%. As a brand, Porsche ranked 19th out of 32 manufacturers, which is not particularly great.
- Lack of storage space: Some owners reported a lack of storage space, particularly in the center console, which can be a problem for daily use.
These issues are not necessarily widespread, and many owners of the Porsche 718 Boxster report high levels of satisfaction with their cars. However, it is important for potential buyers to be aware of these issues and to factor them into their decision-making process.
Is the Porsche Boxster 718 reliable?
We expect the 2024 718 Boxster to be more reliable than other new cars. This prediction is based on similar models, plus the Porsche brand scores.
What is the main issue with the Porsche Boxster?
The two main issues the Boxster and 996 faced at the start of the 2000s were IMS (intermediate shaft) bearing failures and RMS (rear main seal) issues. Contrary to popular belief, both of these issues, although certainly prelevant in both models, were not a guaranteed issue in models of this era.
Is a Porsche 718 expensive to maintain?
Estimates from RepairPal put the average annual repair and maintenance cost for a Porsche at $1,192 per year, which is 83% higher than the industry average for all vehicles.
What is the lifespan of a Porsche 718?
Under the best circumstances, a Porsche could last you for 150,000 miles or around 10 years. With special care, many drivers can get even more than that out of their cars, even surpassing the 250,000-mile mark.

- Summary: I was traveling North on the 127 expressway in Michigan on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in my brand new Porsche Boxster. It is a manual transmission. There was not a lot of traffic. It was maybe around 4:00 pm and the weather was fine. In the distance I could see a lane closure marked by orange and white barrels. I was going 70 mph. I tried to slow down, but when I pressed down on the brake pedal, NOTHING. There was no resistance and the pedal went all the way to the floor. I hit the brake multiple times and nothing...... Eventually, I rear ended a car in front of me; the driver stated he was going 60-65 miles an hour. My car kept going because there were no brakes. I traveled a long distance before the car came to a stop. The young man and I drove our cars (unbelievably, my brakes worked fine) to the next exit 1&1/2 miles, and we waited for the police to come. Luckily, neither I nor the young man in the car I hit were injured. Neither of our airbags went off. His car didn't even have a dent, but his rear bumper was scratched up. My car has almost $9,000 in damage. On request the car is available for inspection. The service department at the Porsche Dealership in Okemos says the brakes are fine, nothing is wrong with them. At this point, an agent at State Farm, my insurance company, is trying to get permission to hire an Origin and Cause Expert to look at the car. But the insurance company hasn't actually inspected the car (in person) for brake failure or damage assessment.

- Summary: WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AFTER MAKING A RIGHT TURN IN THE LANE CLOSET TO THE CURB AT NIGHT WE HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. I PULLED OVER ABOUT TWO BLOCKS AWAY AND NOTICED MY PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR WAS DESTROYED AND THE COVER WAS MISSING AS WELL AS THE MIRROR. THE MIRROR WAS ROTATED INWARDS TOWARD THE PASSENGER WINDOW. WE CALLED THE HIGHWAY PATROL AND RETURNED TO WHERE WE HEARD THE EXPLOSION. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATE THE SHERIFFS ARRIVED. WE FOUND THE MIRROR AND THE MISSING COVER ON THE SIDEWALK. GLASS FROM THE MIRROR WAS EMBEDDED IN THE PASSENGER WINDOW AND THE MIRROR HAD ROTATED INWARDS. WE WALKED THE STREET AND COULD NOT FIND ANY ROCKS OR ITEMS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THROWN UP BY THE CAR. THE OUTSIDE OF THE MIRROR CASE HAS LITTLE OR NO DAMAGE, EXCEPT HITTING THE SIDEWALK. IT APPEARED THAT THE MIRROR HAD EXPLODED. I GOOGLED "EXPLODED PASSENGER MIRRORS" ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS A MORE COMMON PROBLEM THAN EXPECTED MAINLY ON HEATED MIRRORS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE SITE AS WELL AS THE MIRROR DAMAGE. SINCE I WAS IN THE LAND CLOSEST TO THE CURB IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE THAT ANOTHER CARE SIDESWIPED THE MIRROR. ALSO THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO THE MIRROR AND WHERE ITHE COVER HIT THE CAR.

- Summary: REAR TIRES ARE COMPLETE BALD AFTER 5000 MILES. WE HAVE HAD CAR FOR OVER A YEAR. DEALERSHIP HAS INSPECTED AND VERIFIED ALIGNMENT IS FINE AND THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF AGGRESSIVE DRIVING. WHEN WE PURCHASED VEHICLE PARTS WERE MISSING FROM REAR TIRE AND WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THEM TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVE ABLE AT HIS POINT. THEY ARE SAYING THAT WE SHOULDN'T HAVE DRIVEN BELOW 45 DEGREE. THIS IS MY WIFE'S EVERYDAY CAR BUT ANY SIGNS OF BAD WEATHER SHE TAKES A TRUCK TO WORK. THEY WAS NO MENTION WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR THAT THE TIRE WOULD SELF DESTRUCT AT 40 DEGREES. THERE IS NOTHING IN WRITING FROM THE DEALER OR TIRE MANUFACTURER STATING THIS. BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT THEY RECOMMEND SNOW TIRES BELOW 45 BUT THE TIRES ARE NOT DAMAGED UNTIL 5 DEGREES. EVEN AT 5 DEGREES THE TIRE CRACK. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THIS CAR FOR OVER A WEEK NOW WHILE THEY DECIDE WHAT TO DO. THE CAR IS NOT WITH THEM SO NOT SURE WHY IT WOULD TAKE THIS LONG. THERE IS NOTHING THAT STATES THE TIRES FALL APART BELOW 45 DEGREE. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, THE TIRES ARE SO SLICK THAT THERE IS NO TRACTION. I WAS INFORMED AT 2500 MILE TIRES SEEMED WORN BUT DEALER TOLD US THEY WERE HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES AND IT IS OK, AND THE PERSON TELLING US DIDN;T UNDERSTAND PORSCHE HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES.

Sublime handing, comfortable, much faster than expected, this is simply the best toy car I have ever owned. It's a shame that the dealer used my personal information to sell other cars, and I'm still fighting with credit agencies to get my good name back more than a year later. But overall, I'm really happy with my car!

The acceleration is much better than two models back and great at higher speeds too. The top speed of 170 mph with 0-60 in 4.9 seconds is impressive. I personally prefer stick over PDK, and those glorious cup holders are still there. There is enough space in both the back and front trunks, and the Bluetooth integration is easy to use. The garage door opener can also be programmed easily. I love the new body style, which looks more elegant, sporty, and aggressive. Although I don't have navigation, I find Siri via Maps to be a great alternative, and Sirius Satellite was free for three months, but I never renewed it as I didn't use it. It's important to be careful as the front air damn is extremely close to the ground, especially in driveways and dips. Unfortunately, I don't have break assist, and the only thing I regret not getting is automatic mirror retraction and side and rear view mirror dimming. The value of the car dropped precipitously at the year and a half marks, but this is expected in a new sports car. Overall, I think it's a work of art! Although I rated a lot of categories with

This car can be defined by the word intentional. Everything about it is about driving with a smile on your face. It's a very well designed and engineered sports car that has been an absolute joy to own.

I have been a proud owner of a Boxster for 25 years now. Prior to this, I had three 911s, two 4S coupes, and one Targa S, all of which were great cars. I have had the Boxster for two years now, having bought it new. Unfortunately, the battery died less than 6 months ago and again yesterday. I was relieved to find out that the tire/wheel warranty covered the replacement of two tires. However, I was surprised to learn that the dealership had to wait for approval from Porsche in Germany to replace the battery, which is under warranty. As an owner/driver, I do not have control over the frequency of flat tires and failed batteries. I am sure you can understand my frustration with the situation. I have owned Hondas, Lexus, BMW, and many Mercedes, and never had to wait for approval to replace a part under warranty. In addition, they always had spare tires in stock. I am disappointed that Porsche's service and warranty do not meet the same standards. Despite this, I must say that the car itself is great. It has excellent handling, smooth acceleration, and great cornering. The controls are simple and perfect. I hope that Porsche can improve their service and warranty in the future, as I would hate to have to switch to another brand. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
