2016 Mercedes-benz Sprinter 1500 problems
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a light commercial vehicle (van) built by Mercedes-Benz Group AG of Stuttgart, Germany as a large van, chassis cab, minibus, and pickup truck. In the past, the Sprinter had been sold under the Mercedes-Benz, Dodge, and Freightliner nameplates. In the U.S., it was built from complete knock down (CKD) kits by Freightliner. Re-badged and re-engined Sprinters were also sold by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles as the Volkswagen LT and the Volkswagen Crafter. They are now primarily marketed by Mercedes-Benz.
In the Mercedes-Benz van lineup, the Sprinter is the largest model offered, followed by the mid-size Vito (aka Viano, V-Class, and EQV) and small Citan.
First generation (1995–2006, T1N)
Europe
The first generation Sprinter was launched in Europe in 1995 to replace the famous but outdated T1 Transporter van dating from 1977. Compared to the T1, the Sprinter had reduced the aerodynamic drag and moved the engine 290 mm (11 in) further forward to increase cabin space. It was the first Mercedes-Benz product to carry a name rather than an alphanumeric designation. It was released with four-wheel disc brakes equipped with an antilock braking system and was driven by the most powerful diesel engine in its class, with a power output of 90 kW (120 hp). The Sprinter was voted International Van of the Year for 1995.
The styling was updated in 2000 and 2002, accompanied by technical changes that included standard electronic stability control (2002).

Common 2016 Mercedes-benz Sprinter 1500 problems
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 1500 2016 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most significant issues is related to the engine, with multiple breakdowns reported during extended vacations. In one instance, the engine blew an oil seal in Montrose, Colorado, causing oil to cover the engine and body of the vehicle.
Another common problem with the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 1500 is related to the wiring harness. One owner reported a wiring harness problem that caused the engine to lose power, requiring the vehicle to be towed to a dealership for repairs. Unfortunately, the dealership informed the owner that it would take two days to repair the issue due to the need to order new parts overnight.
The interior of the Sprinter 1500 2016 has also been criticized by owners. One owner reported that the interior panels rattle when it's chilly outside, creating a horrendous crescendo when it's cold. The brakes have also been reported to squeal so badly that people cover their ears and wince when they are used lightly. The dealer's recommended solution is to step on the brakes harder, which may not be ideal for all driving situations.
The transmission of the Sprinter 1500 2016 has also been reported to have issues. One owner reported that the transmission has a mind of its own, shifting unexpectedly and causing the vehicle to accelerate or decelerate unpredictably. The dealer informed the owner that this behavior is normal, which has led to frustration and safety concerns for the owner.
Another significant issue with the Sprinter 1500 2016 is related to the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system. One owner reported that the DEF warning goes from 13 to 5 or wherever it wants to stop, making it difficult to trust the start countdown. The dealer's recommended solution is not to shut off the van, which may not be practical for all driving situations.
Starting issues have also been reported by owners of the Sprinter 1500 2016. One owner reported that the van won't start unless the key is cycled back and forth multiple times, causing inconvenience and frustration. The dealer has not provided a solution for this issue, which has led to further frustration for the owner.
Finally, the Sprinter 1500 2016 has been reported to have issues with its speed limiter. One owner reported that the top speed is limited to 78 mph, which is lower than the speed limit on some roads. The dealer's response was that "who needs to go faster than 78," which has not addressed the owner's concerns about the vehicle's performance and safety.
In summary, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 1500 2016 has been reported to have several common problems, including engine issues, wiring harness problems, interior rattles and squeaks, transmission issues, DEF system problems, starting issues, and speed limiter concerns. These issues have led to frustration and safety concerns for owners, and in some cases, have required expensive repairs.
