Mazda Protege problems
The Mazda Familia (Japanese: マツダ ファミリア, Matsuda Famiria), also marketed prominently as the Mazda 323, Mazda Protegé and Mazda Allegro, is a small family car that was manufactured by Mazda between 1963 and 2003. The Familia line was replaced by the Mazda3/Axela for 2004.
It was marketed as the Familia in Japan, which means "family" in Latin. For export, earlier models were sold with nameplates including: "800", "1000", "1200", and "1300". In North America, the 1200 was replaced by the Mazda GLC, with newer models becoming "323" and "Protegé". In Europe, all Familias sold after 1977 were called "323".
The Familia was also rebranded as the Ford Laser and Ford Meteor in Asia, Oceania, Southern Africa, some Latin American countries and, from 1991, as the Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer in North America. In addition, the Familia name was used as the Mazda Familia Wagon/Van, a badge-engineered version of the Nissan AD wagon (1994–2017) and Toyota Probox (2018–present).
Mazda Familias were manufactured in the Hiroshima Plant and also assembled from "knock-down kits" in various countries including Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Colombia, and New Zealand. Some of these plants kept manufacturing the Familia long after it was discontinued at home.

For the small amount of time that I've owned this car, it's absolutely fantastic! However, this car has been in our family ever since 2002. It has an automatic transmission and everything in the car is going strong even after 190,000 miles! This car has battled through many trips from New York to Florida and the only problem during all of those trips was that the driver's side window ceased to function. It was promptly fixed and works as good as new! The story on this car is that my parents had bought this vehicle new the year this came out. This car has mostly highway miles. 3 days a week, it travels 140 into the city and back home for the past 9 years. Never has it broken down!

I drove this car off the showroom floor 14 years ago brand new. It's my first new car and I'm very sad to part with it. It's great on gas and the original AC still works. Although it has some rust and requires regular repairs, nothing major. It's fun to drive and provides a very comfortable ride. I've really enjoyed it.

This car has performed really well! It strikes a great balance between cost, style, economy, and comfort. The AC is especially appreciated here in South Texas, where it's needed all year round. Overall, it's a great value. Although there were some minor irritating problems after 100000 miles, they were nothing major. I would definitely buy a Mazda again!

Recently purchased from the original owner, this car has been kept in excellent condition both inside and out, and has only 11,200 actual miles on it. My mechanic was amazed by its condition, which is practically new. I'm confident that my son will be able to use this car for his last two years of high school and all of college, and with only 60k miles on it by then. It's a worthwhile gamble for only $3k. Cheers!

I bought it brand new in June of 1993 and never had a single regret. The only mechanical work was new CV boots & joints at 150,000 miles and all new seals in the upper half of the engine at 175,000 miles. I've kept the oil changed between 3,000 and 4,000 miles and kept the engine tuned up. I've got the 5-speed and it's still working on the original clutch. I get 40 miles to the gallon on the highway and I drive it 80 miles to and from work each day. I've got my $8,000 worth.
