2014 Mazda Mx-5 problems
The Mazda MX-5 is a lightweight two-person sports car manufactured and marketed by Mazda with a front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The convertible is marketed as the Mazda Roadster (マツダ・ロードスター, Matsuda Rōdosutā) or Eunos Roadster (ユーノス・ロードスター, Yūnosu Rōdosutā) in Japan, and as the Mazda Miata (/miˈɑːtə/) in the United States, and formerly in Canada, where it is now marketed as the MX-5 but is still commonly referred to as Miata.
Manufactured at Mazda's Hiroshima plant, the MX-5 debuted in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show and was conceived and executed under a tightly focused design credo, Jinba ittai (人馬一体), meaning "oneness of horse and rider". Widely noted for its small, light, technologically modern, dynamically balanced and minimally complex design, the MX-5 has frequently been called a spiritual successor to 1950s and '60s Italian and British roadster sports cars. The Lotus Elan was used as a design benchmark.
Generations were internally designated with a two-letter code, beginning with the first generation, the NA. The second generation (NB) launched in 1998 for MY 1999; followed by the third generation (NC) in 2005 for MY 2006, and the fourth generation (ND) in 2015 for MY 2016.
As the best-selling two-seat convertible sports car in history, the MX-5 has been marketed globally, with production exceeding one million, as of early 2016. The name miata derives from Old High German for "reward".

Common 2014 Mazda Mx-5 problems
The Mazda MX-5 2014, also known as the MX-5 NC, is known for its reliability and lack of recalls. However, there are a few common problems that owners have reported.
One such issue is a buzzing noise from near the gearlever when the car is accelerating. While Mazda has stated that this is nothing to worry about, it can still be a source of annoyance for some drivers.
Another problem is a loud whining noise coming from the rear differential. This is a common issue in the MX-5 NC and can be caused by a variety of factors within the drivetrain.
Some owners have also reported a squealing noise when moving away from rest quickly. This can be caused by a problem with the fuelling system, which can lead to a stutter when the car is slowing down.
An issue that affects the Mazda MX-5 Miata, including the 2014 model, is a lifter tick. This ticking noise is often caused by problems with the hydraulic lifters and can be made worse by infrequent oil changes. Over time, the lifters can wear down and lose their ability to properly open and close the engine’s valves, leading to the ticking noise. However, the good news is that this problem can often be fixed in a few ways, such as by putting a small amount of automatic transmission fluid in the engine oil, running the car for a few minutes, and then doing a complete oil change.
Another issue that Mazda MX-5 Miata owners have reported is the check engine light coming on due to problems with the fuel filler pipe. The 2006-2014 MX-5 Miatas has improperly made threads on the fuel filler pipe, which can cause the check engine light to come on. This problem can be particularly frustrating for owners because the check engine light may not indicate any other issues with the car.
A restricted EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system is another issue that Mazda MX-5 Miata owners have reported. The restricted EGR system can cause the check engine light to come on, leading to poor engine performance. These issues include reduced power and decreased fuel efficiency. The EGR system recirculates exhaust gases into the engine to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. When the EGR system becomes restricted, it can prevent the proper amount of exhaust gases from entering the engine. The issues are reported for the 1999 to 2003, 2009, and 2010 model years.
If the brake calipers are not used frequently, they can be prone to seizing up. This can cause the car to pull to one side when the brakes are applied and can also lead to uneven brake pad wear. The only solution is to strip down and clean up the brakes, before reassembling the lot. If one brake has been sticking for a long time, then there’s a good chance that the brake pads will be much more worn, so you may have to replace these too.
Regular oil changes, replacing faulty components, and having a mechanic check the EGR system can help address these issues and ensure that Mazda MX-5 Miata owners can continue to enjoy their cars and have a great driving experience.
