- Summary: MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2000 KIA SPECTRA WHEN THE CLAM SHELL (STEERING COLUMN COVER) CAME APART WHILE SHE WAS MAKING A TURN. THE TOP PIECE PULL A WIRE LOOSE CAUSING THE AIR BAG INDICATOR TO COME ON, AND IT ALSO PREVENTED HER FROM COMPLETING THE TURN THAT SHE WAS TRYING TO MAKE. SHE EVENTUALLY HAD TO COME TO AN ABRUPT STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. WE HAD JUST PICKED UP THE CAR THAT SAME DAY FROM HAVING THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT SERVICED AND THE RADIO REPLACED (2ND TIME FOR THE RADIO), AND THEN THE SERVICE MANAGER AND TECH CAME OUT TO OUR HOUSE AFTER MY WIFE FINALLY WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME. WE WERE GOING TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER BUT IT WAS TOO LATE IN THE DAY SO THEY CAME OVER AND DROVE IT BACK THEMSELVES. SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER OUR EXTENDED WARRENTEE WHICH WAS STILL IN FORCE AT THE TIME. I ALSO RENTED A CAR FOR THE 3 DAYS THAT THEY HAD OUR CAR, AND THAT TOO WAS NOT TO BE COVERED. HE SAID THAT I COULD TAPE IT UP AND IT SHOULD BE FINE IF I DID NOT WANT TO SPEND THE MONEY. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO SAID THAT MOST AUTOMOBILES HAD THIS PART ATTACHED WITH SCREWS HOLDING THE 2 PIECES TOGETHER, BUT THIS ONE HAD ONLY PUSH TABS AND THE SAME PROBLEM COULD EVENTUALLY HAPPEN WITH THE REPLACED PART. THAT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND TO ME IS POOR WORKMANSHIP, AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TAPE UP MY CAR AND OR PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS THE MANUFACTURERS FAULT. ALSO, IF THIS HAPPENED TO MY CAR, IT MIGHT HAPPEN TO THE OTHERS AS WELL, AT LEAST THE OTHER 2000 KIA SPECTRAS. RIGHT NOW, I DO HAVE TAPE HOLDING IT TOGETHER, AND I INTEND ON GETTING IT REPLACED, BUT ACTUALLY I DON'T WANT TO REPLACE IT WITH THE SAME THING IS IT COULD OCCUR AGAIN. (I'VE HAD THE CAR EXACTLY 5 YEARS WITH 50,000 MILE ON IT.)

EVERYONE CAN NOT AFFORD TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THEIR OUTRAGEOUS CHARGES BUT I HAD TO BREAKDOWN AND GO TO PAY 82.00 FOR A DIAGNOSIS FOR AT LEAST 420.00 WORTH OF SERVICE THAT I MUST PAY TO GET THE PROBLEM CORRECTED 315.00 TO REPLACE SILENCER PIPE THAT WAS ALREADY DEFECTIVE FROM MANUFACTURER AND 90.00 FOR THE PURGE VALVE THESE CHARGES ACCORDING TO KIA DEALERSHIP INCLUDE LABOR. ALREADY LOSING THE 82.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. MY CAR HAS ONLY 57493 MILES WITHIN THE 4 YEARS I HAVE HAD IT. This car is 18 years old, but I've only had it for a few months. After replacing the spark plugs and coils, it runs great! The only issue is that the air conditioning doesn't work. I love the warranty and plan on driving it for another 5 years. Today, I purchased a 2006 Sonata and briefly considered trading in the 'Green Machine', but ultimately decided against it. The Spectra is a great car for teenagers and commuters alike. However, it does have some drawbacks such as soft seats, poor performance on long drives, and low gas mileage for a small car. Overall, I highly recommend it!

This vehicle looks like fun, but after trying it out as a second car, it left a lot to be desired. It would be great for someone starting out, but for me, I bought it on a whim while moving, and it has served its purpose. However, I have found that the resale value doesn't hold. If you like to be low on the road, this is the car for you!

I purchased this Kia brand new and it was a good car, although it did have some problems. However, Kia was able to fix them. I took it to Harold Chev, where they had Kia mechanics. Unfortunately, a few years later, the car started to have problems again. When it reached around 70,000 miles, it started to sound bad. Although the Kia dealers tried to fix it every time, the problem kept coming back and it seemed like Kia had given up. My other daughter also has a Kia from 2000 and after 7 years, her car has fallen apart. It has been in the shop many times and just runs poorly. They now say it has a bad cylinder. On the other hand, I have a Kia Sedona that I bought new in 2003 and have had no major problems. Kia has been good to me. When I told my daughter how good Kia has been to me, she said she will never buy one. Neither will I.

You've had this car for 6 years now and it has 100,000 miles on it. You drive 40 miles a day to work and not one thing has gone wrong with it - I mean nothing! The only time it's in the garage is for maintenance. You can't complain about anything mechanical. What a great price - you had it paid off in two years. It also has great gas mileage. Sounds like you made a fantastic choice!

This auto has great style and good looks for its class. The hatchback is marvelous for loading and carrying bigger items, and it's very roomy and comfortable. While the gas mileage could be better for a car of this size, it's not bad. Overall, I really like this auto. Although, it's worth noting that the transmission had to be replaced at about 14,000 miles, but it was all paid for, of course.
