2006 Jeep Laredo problems
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a range of mid-size SUVs produced by the American manufacturer Jeep. At its introduction, while most SUVs were still manufactured with body-on-frame construction, the Grand Cherokee has used a unibody chassis from the start.
Development
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors Corporation (AMC) was designing a successor to the Jeep Cherokee. Three outside (non-AMC) designers—Larry Shinoda, Alain Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro—were also under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee XJ replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design.
As AMC began the development of the next Jeep in 1985, management created a business process that is now known as product lifecycle management (PLM). According to François Castaing, Vice President for Product Engineering and Development, the smallest U.S. automaker was looking for a way to speed up its product development process to compete better against its larger competitors. The XJC's development was aided by computer-aided design (CAD) software systems making the engineers more productive. Meanwhile, new communication systems allowed potential conflicts to be resolved faster, thus reducing costly engineering changes, because all drawings and documents were in a central database. The system was so effective that after Chrysler purchased AMC in 1987, it expanded the system throughout its enterprise, thus connecting everyone involved in designing and building products.
The Grand Cherokee thus became the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new Jeep model continued and Chrysler's employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. A Dodge-branded version was designed as a precaution should Jeep dealers struggle to handle so many Grand Cherokee units.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The vehicle that was driven was a Poppy Red Clear Coat 1993 Grand Cherokee ZJ Laredo with a quartz cloth interior and high-back bucket seats. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young, from the Jefferson North Assembly Plant on North Jefferson Avenue via a police escort to Cobo Hall, up the steps of Cobo Hall and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Sales of the 1993 model year Grand Cherokee began in April 1992.
Production of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan. European Grand Cherokees are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr. The Grand Cherokee "played a significant part in reviving Chrysler's fortunes by moving it into the then-nascent market for high-margin sports utility vehicles."
Upon its introduction, it was the first full-scale manufacture of an automobile in the US using HFC-134a refrigerant in place of HCFC-12 for the HVAC system.

THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN 3 ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. ISSUE WITH MY JEEP LAREDO - EXACTLY THE SAME! I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT THING! I WILL BE DRIVING (REGARDLESS OF SPEED) AND EVERYTHING LOCKS UP AND I CANNOT SLOW DOWN, STOP, OR SPEED UP, AND AT THE SAME TIME THE LIGHTS AROUND "P-N-D-2-1" WILL ALL BE HIGHLIGHTED. THE ENGINE REVS UP ON ITS OWN, SOMETIMES GETTING INTO THE RED ZONE, AND AFTER WHAT SEEMS LIKE FOREVER IT ALL RELEASES AND STARTS TO DRIVE NORMAL AGAIN. I'VE HAD IT LOOKED AT NUMEROUS TIMES, TRANSMISSION [XXX] NEAR REPLACED, STARTER REPLACED, ETC., AND IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. THIS LAST INCIDENT I WAS INFORMED OF THE CODE "P0700" WHICH HAS TO DO WITH A FAULT IN THE TRANSAXLE CONTROL SYSTEM. OBVIOUSLY I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. JEEP NEEDS TO COME OUT WITH SOME SORT OF RECALL, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE OR WARRANTY, TO FIX THIS BEFORE THERE'S A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, HOPEFULLY NOT ONE THAT WOULD TAKE ANY LIVES! IT'S APPARENT THAT IT'S NOT AN "OPERATOR ERROR" BUT INSTEAD A MANUFACTURING ERROR. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

- Summary: SIMILAR TO RECENT GM PROBLEM, WHEN DRIVING, MY KNEE TOUCHES THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH THEN SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE. POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-03-08
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1J4HR48N96C
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE. I BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT A TACO BELL. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE INTERLOCK REQUIRED MY FOOT TO BE ON THE BRAKE. I MOVE THE VEHICLE WITH ONLY THE POWER SUPPLIED WITH THE VEHICLE AT IDLE (500 RPM). I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH INCREASED BRAKE PRESSURE. I LOOKED TO THE RIGHT WHERE I INTENDED TO EXIT THE PARKING LOT. I MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER TO DRIVE. THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED ACROSS THE PARKING LOT. I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR VIOLENTLY JUMPED FROM A STANDING START TO AN EXTIMATED15 MPH, SMASHING INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER PARKED CAR, DRIVING THE FRONT OF THAT CAR OVER A CURB, INTO A BRICK ENTRY PILLAR. I APPLIED MAXIMUM BRAKING PRESSURE AFTER MY CAR HAD MOVED ABOUT 10-15 FEET OR ABOUT HALFWAY ACROSS THE PARKING LOT. THE ACCELERATION WAS SO RAPID THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT TIME TO REACT AND STOP IN SUCH A SHORT DISTANCE. I AM NOT SENILE. I AM A SKILLED DRIVER WHO HAS NEVER HAD A REPORTABLE ACCIDENT IN 40 YEARS OF DRIVING. I AM A SAFE DRIVER WHO HAS NOT HAD A TRAFFIC TICKET IN AN ESTIMATED 38 YEARS. I HAVE TAUGHT DRIVER'S EDUCATION. I AM VERY KNOWLEDGABLE WITH THE SAFE OPERATION OF THIS VEHICLE AFTER HAVING OWNED AN EARLIER MODEL. THIS WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS A COMPLETE VEHICLE FAILURE. MY CAR HAS BOTH THE BRAKE INTERLOCK AND THE WIDER SEPERATION BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PETALS ... PREVIOUS CHRYSLER/JEEP FIXES. I SUSPECT THIS PROBLEM MIGHT BE ELECTRICAL. THE BATTERY HAD FAILED AND HAD BEEN REPLACED ONLY MINUTES EARLIER. MY FOOT NEVER TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR, IT REMAINED ON THE BRAKE THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE INCIDENT. I AM AWARE OF BOTH COMPLAINTS OF DRIVER ERROR AND NUMEROUS, UNEXPLAINED REPORTS. THIS REPORT IS SIMPLE ... SOME KIND OF MECHANICAL FAILURE. *TR
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

- Summary: I HAVE A 2006 JEEP LAREDO 3.6L WITH 54,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE MAY OF 2012 IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A HUGE PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER CARE AND HAD A CASENUMBER WITH THEM TO GET THE ISSUES RESOLVED, NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY FIXED HALF OF THE ISSUES AND THEN CLOSED THE CASE WHEN THE DEALERSHIP THAT WAS WORKING ON IT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE OTHER ISSUES. THE JEEP WILL LUNGE, JERK, AND GET STUCK IN 2ND GEAR AT 1.5RPHS UNTIL YOU PRESS THE GAS REALLY HARD AND IT SLIPS GEARS. FOR THE PAST 4 MONTHS ON AND OFF THE JEEP HAS BEEN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FOR EXAMPLE TODAY WHILE LEAVING WORK I WAS GOING AROUND 30 MPH AND TURNED MY HEAT ON THEN ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON (CHECK ENGINE, OIL,) ALL THOSE MY GAS GAGE WENT FROM FULL TO EMPTY MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF AND I LOST POWER STEERING AND ABS BRAKES. NEVER THE LESS IT WAS DARK OUTSIDE SO IM A SITTING DUCK TO OTHER CARS WHO CAN NOT SEE ME. THEN ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER THE JEEP IS BACK TO NORMAL AND IS RUNNING FINE. IT HAS EVEN DONE THIS WHEN I JUST HONK MY HORN OR TURN ON MY RADIO. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP MANY OF TIMES REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND THEIR RESPONSE IS WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS! SO THEY WANT ME TO PAY UP TO 1,000.00 IN DIAGNOSTIC COSTS (DEALERSHIP SAID) BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SEARCH EVERYTHING ON THE JEEP TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BECAUSE IT COULD BE ANYTHING. AND JEEPS RESPONSE WAS THEY ARE NOT SAYING THAT THEY WILL COVER IT OR NOT. I HAVE A EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE JEEP THAT I BOUGHT THAT IS GOOD FOR ANOTHER 50,000 MILES. THESE ISSUES SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO BE FIXED AND PAID FOR BY JEEP BECAUSE IT IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS ISSUES HAPPENS AGAIN WITH MY SMALL CHILD IN THE CAR AT NIGHT AND I GET HIT BY ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT SEE ME? WILL JEEP PAY THEN? *TR
