The Hyundai Elantra, also known as the Hyundai Avante (Korean: 현대 아반떼), is a compact car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1990. The Elantra was initially marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. First generation (J1; 1990)
The Elantra (codename J1) was launched in October 1990, and received a mid-term facelift in 1993.
It was sold in Europe from the spring of 1991. It replaced the somewhat larger on the outside Stellar, although that model had not been offered in many markets. The Elantra competed with the likes of the Ford Sierra and Vauxhall Cavalier/Opel Vectra, but at a considerably lower price.
The Elantra was powered by a Mitsubishi-designed 1.6 L (1595 cc) straight-four. This DOHC 16-valve 1.6 L unit produced 113 PS (83 kW) at 6000 rpm and could push the Elantra to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 9.5 seconds. The quarter-mile (0.4 km) run took 17.1 seconds and produced 129 km/h (80 mph). Top speed was 187 km/h (116 mph). The Elantra got 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km) in the city cycle. Starting in 1993 a Mitsubishi-designed 1.8 L (1836 cc) inline-four option was available; this unit produces 135 PS (99 kW) at 6000 rpm and replaced the twin-cam 1.6 in the home market.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
- Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. I've had my Hyundai Elantra Coupe GS for over a year now and I still wouldn't trade it for anything (except a Nismo but that's beside the point). The brakes are always reliable, even in Florida's heavy rains. The acceleration is awesome, even when in Eco Mode. I can sit in the car for long trips without my back hurting. The Bluetooth hooks up easily to my iPhone, making driving and talking so much easier because I can keep both hands on the wheel. My car came with aftermarket backup sensors, but it's still really easy to maneuver without them. The handling is awesome no matter what the weather conditions are like. The only maintenance I've had to do to the car is regular oil changes, tires, and an occasional air filter. I get between 27-30 in the city, and that's with occasionally driving like a bat outta hell. I don't do much highway driving, but I could only imagine how awesome it would be. It's also easy to get in and out of because the door opening is so big. All in all, this car is great, and I highly recommend it!

You have made an excellent choice with this car! It is incredibly comfortable and well-appointed, and the suspension is top-notch. Even after driving over 100k miles, the interior is still in excellent condition. The exterior is also in great shape, with no signs of rust, even after driving on salty, northern, winter roads for nearly six years and 105k miles. I absolutely love this car and would definitely buy it again!

I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to share my experience with the Elantra Coupe. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the gas mileage! On the highway, I am getting between 35-38 miles per gallon, which is fantastic. Even in the city with the AC on, I am still getting a respectable 25-26 miles per gallon. Additionally, my car is fully loaded with all of the bells and whistles, including a luxurious leather interior and a top-of-the-line navigation system. The seats are incredibly comfortable, and the knee space is much better than that of the Ford Focus. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase!

I purchased my 2013 Elantra with 90,000+ miles about 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I later discovered some wiring issues that caused my horn to honk randomly while driving and prevented the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel from working, including the cruise control and trip functions. My husband researched the issue and found that wiring problems were common in this model. Additionally, due to the car's low clearance, I accidentally hit two raccoons on separate occasions, which caused significant damage to the bumper. The AC/heating fan has also malfunctioned twice in the past two years, and I am now in need of a third fan as the second one only worked for two weeks. The car is also starting to burn too much oil, and there is no space for a spare tire. Despite these issues, I do like the car for its comfort, quietness, fuel efficiency, appearance, and trunk space. Currently, the car has 143,000+ miles on it, and I drive it for 45 minutes on the interstate to and from work. However, I feel that it may fall apart at any moment, so it's time for me to purchase a new car.

Hi there! I have a Hyundai Elantra with 20,000 miles on it and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I mostly drive on the highway at 60-65 mph for about 25 miles each way with ECO on, and I get between 33-36 miles per gallon. However, I've noticed that the readout of mpg is consistently almost exactly 10% above what I actually get. I wonder if other owners are experiencing the same thing and if this is causing some of the disagreement on mileage. What do you think?
