2002 Honda Civic si problems
The Honda Civic Si is a sport compact trim of Honda's Civic. The Si (Sport Injected) trim was introduced for the third generation of Honda Civics in both Japan and North America. In Canada and elsewhere, the trim became known as the SiR for the sixth and seventh generations as the "Si" badge was used for the equivalent to the USDM Civic EX model.
For the Japanese and European markets, the Civic Type R was adopted as the high-performance variant of the Civic, starting with the EK9 hatch for Japan in 1996 and then with the EP3 hatch for Europe in 2001. The 2017 model year marked the first time that the Civic Type R was sold in North America, previous to this the Si trim was the highest in North America (except for Acura vehicles). While the Civic Type R has a more powerful engine, plus it being available in a more track-oriented and spartan configuration including less sound deadening and amenities, by contrast the Civic Si has been positioned as more of a full-featured sport trim, featuring luxury options such as a sunroof and a seven-speaker audio system.
1984–1987
Honda first adopted the Si badge for the Japanese domestic market (JDM) third-generation Civic in November 1984. Japanese and European Si's received a 118 hp (88 kW) DOHC engine, while US and Canadian cars were powered by a 91 hp (68 kW), 12-valve SOHC engine. The Civic Si also appeared in New Zealand and Australia in 1987, with specifications similar to those of the American-market Si.

Common 2002 Honda Civic si problems
The Honda Civic Si 2002 is known for several common problems that owners have reported. One of the most prevalent issues is the stock clutch's inability to handle increased power, which can lead to premature failure. This issue is particularly common among enthusiasts who modify their cars for higher performance.
Another problem that affects the Honda Civic Si 2002 is carbon build-up on spark plugs. This issue arises due to the vehicle's efficient design, which causes the engine to take longer to warm up, allowing carbon to accumulate on the spark plugs over time. This build-up can lead to rough idling, misfires, and more frequent spark plug maintenance and replacement.
The factory turbocharger on the Honda Civic Si can also be a problem, especially when boost pressure is increased. Higher boost pressure causes the turbocharger to spin faster, which can lead to premature failure. If you plan to increase the boost pressure on your Civic Si, it's essential to monitor the condition of your factory turbocharger closely.
The oil pump gears in the Honda Civic 1.5T engine can also be an issue, particularly when attempting to add more power. The factory oil pump can fail, causing significant problems. However, Boundary Pump Division has developed a gear for the 1.5T engine that is a direct drop-in replacement, ensuring that oil pump failures do not occur when adding more power.
Finally, oil dilution can be a problem in the Honda Civic Si. Excess fuel vapors can cause the engine oil to become diluted, leading to potential engine damage. While this issue is not unique to the Honda Civic Si, it is essential to monitor the engine oil level and quality regularly to prevent any potential problems.
In conclusion, while the Honda Civic Si 2002 is generally considered a reliable vehicle, these common problems can arise, particularly when modifying the car for higher performance. Regular maintenance and monitoring can help prevent these issues and ensure the car remains reliable and enjoyable to drive.
Is Honda Civic 2002 a reliable car?
the Honda Civic is reliable, affordable, and comfortable. I've had minor hiccups that were an easy fix, so easy I could repair the car myself if needed. I would recommend this car to everyone especially new drivers. You can't go wrong with this vehicle.
Is the Honda Civic Si a reliable car?
Pros: Reliability: Honda has a strong reputation for reliability, and the Civic Si is no exception. It's known to run smoothly for hundreds of thousands of miles with proper maintenance. Performance: The Civic Si has a sporty feel with more horsepower and torque than the standard Civic.
How many miles can a 2002 Honda Civic last?
It's not uncommon for a Civic to last upward of 20 years, and you can tack on the miles during that expanse of time. You could get from 200,000 to 300,000 miles with a Honda Civic before it completely breaks down or requires extensive repairs.
How long can a Civic Si last?
Considering that a properly maintained Civic can potentially last 150,000 to 200,000 miles, anything below 80,000 miles is considered good mileage. If you can find a used Civic that had a careful owner who mostly drove on the highway or in the countryside, it can be a safe choice even if it has reached 100,000 miles.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-02-13
- VIN: 2HGES16682H
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AND THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AFTER I BOUGHT IT I'VE GONE TO SPECIALIST TO GET THIS FIXED AND IT'S STILL BROKEN AND NOW I CAN'T GET A STICKER BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-08-22
- VIN: 1HGES16592L
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK JUST UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT DEVELOPS CRACKS BECAUSE OF IT BEING MADE OF PLASTIC.THIS HAPPENED ON MY CAR. QUITE A BIT OF FUEL LEAKS OUT OF THESE CRACKS WHEN OPERATING THE AUTOMOBILE. THE AVERAGE PERSON MIGHT NOT EVER KNOW THIS IF IT WAS ALWAYS PARKED OUTSIDE. THE POTENTIAL FOR FIRE OR EXPLOSION IS RATHER PRONOUNCED BECAUSE OF WHERE IT SITS. IF HONDA IS GOING TO USE PLASTIC IN ITS FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM THEN LET THEM MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T LEAK YEARS DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET FROM OTHER 2002 CIVIC OWNERS. MY CIVIC IS NOT AN SI BUT IT WAS THE ONLY 02 CIVIC LISTED ON YOUR SITE . WE HAD THE PUMP PUMP ASSEMBLY REPLACED. IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT THIS ISSUE COULD LEAD TO TERRIBLE ACCIDENTS TO OTHER OWNERS
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-08-25
- VIN: SHHEP33542U
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: WHEN GIVEN MY VIN, THE HONDA RECALL SITE GIVES BACK THE WRONG MODEL OF CAR. MY CAR IS A CIVIC AND IT IS HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE THAT ALL THE 2002S EXCEPT MINE NEED THE TAKATA RECALL.
