Common 2005 Gmc Sierra 3500 problems

Based on complaints from owners of the GMC Sierra 3500 2005, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Electrical Issues: Approximately one in four complaints are related to electrical problems. These include dim headlights, fidgety warning lights, dying batteries, and even instances of the dashboard melting due to electrical malfunctions. Electrical issues can also lead to problems with dash gauges, interior lights, and random locking or unlocking of the vehicle.
  2. Service Brakes: The 2005 Sierra 3500 has received 92 complaints related to service brakes. Owners have reported corroded brake lines leading to fluid leaks. When brake lines rust through, extensive damage to the subframe can occur, making repairs challenging.
  3. Speedometer Malfunction: A significant issue reported by owners is related to the speedometer. Some vehicles experience inaccurate speed readings or complete failure of the speedometer. This can lead to potential safety hazards, such as speeding tickets or loss of control while driving. Resolving this issue may involve sensor replacements or addressing wiring and power source problems.
  4. Heating System Problems: Owners have reported issues with the heating system, including the heater turning on randomly, even in warm weather. While this may not pose a safety risk, it can be an inconvenience and may require attention to prevent unexpected heating operation.
  5. Miscellaneous Issues: Other problems reported with the 2005 GMC Sierra 3500 include a range of miscellaneous issues, varying from mild to severe. These can include a mix of electrical, mechanical, or system-related concerns, each potentially requiring different levels of repair and associated costs.

These problems highlight the importance of thorough inspections and maintenance when considering a used GMC Sierra 3500 from the 2005 model year. Addressing these common issues promptly can help ensure the vehicle's reliability and safety for its owners.

Negative 2005 Gmc Sierra 3500 car reviews

  1. Leonard Fisher 2024-10-28

It seems like the Ford is a much better option than this one.

  2. Casey McKenzie 2024-06-15

The comfort and drivability of the GMC beats the Ford 350. Although I had an '01 F350 which was a great truck, it had some reliability problems and the brakes were not up to the task. Overall, the GMC is much better with towing and the interior is more car-like. I do have a small complaint about the truck, which is the gray steel rims with cheap trim rings. For over $40K, the truck should be outfitted with Ford/Dodge similar rims. I almost went for the Ford again because of this.

  3. Hilton Wolff 2024-06-08

Truck looks great! The fuel mileage (non-towing) is not bad for a ton dually at 13 mpg. However, when towing, it's a different story. The average for this 6.0L engine is six (6) miles per gallon. Unfortunately, the tow mileage is not great and the truck is at its maximum performance on the interstate at 70mph. It seems to have no power left.

    I wish I had bought an F-350.

Positive 2005 Gmc Sierra 3500 car reviews

  1. Jameson Schuppe 2024-11-10

The only issue I've had is that the left door speaker went bad. The one thing that bothers me is that the rear springs make a clunking noise when going over some bumps at lower speeds, even with just the camper on.

  2. Tyler Hirthe 2024-10-22

I must say, my experience with my GMC has been absolutely fantastic! Since I first got it, I have travelled over 17,000 miles and it has never let me down. It hauls my 42' 5th wheel with ease and my daughter and I both love the DVD system with the wireless headphones. The sound and entertainment systems are top-notch. Although the shocks can be a little stiff when I'm not hauling, it's a minor issue. I did a lot of comparison shopping and found that my GMC had the most options for the best price.

  3. Kennedi Tillman 2024-07-28

I have a GMC3500LLY 04 Duramax Allison Crew Cab Dually with 4000 miles on it. Half of those miles have been spent towing. It gets between 12 to 16 mpg, and the motor and transmission handle the weight with ease. I have a BW gooseneck hitch to haul a 14000 dump trailer, and sometimes I go up and down 6% grades. The transmission downshifts automatically, which makes it easy on the brakes when towing. It doesn't ride like a typical truck, and it's surprisingly quiet for a diesel. I find it fun to drive, and I get lots of compliments on how it looks. When I take people for a ride in it, they enjoy it too. I've owned a Dodge Dakota, a 2500 Silverado, a heavy-duty Silverado 2500, and a heavy-duty 3500 Chevy chassis cab with a dump body, but I like the GMC 3500 the best.

  4. Bradford Schulist 2024-06-20

The ride feels really smooth, although there is some wind noise coming through the extended cab doors. The 8.1L V-8 engine is incredibly powerful.

  5. Finn Mills 2024-06-16

You've got yourself a great truck there! It's been so reliable and has never given you any trouble. You've been using it for 6 months now to haul a 200 pound trailer and it's been doing a fantastic job!
