  • Summary: I have been getting a number of safety warning lights since about 6 months after buying this car. It is new, under warranty and I am first owner. They were intermittent initially, but have become increasingly frequent and are now associated with a constant warning ping. I have taken the car to FitzGerald Genesis in Clearwater Florida 7 times for this problem. They can reproduce it (and have the codes) but they can not fix it (I took it to Crown Genesis of St. Pete twice for this problem) Genesis has not been interested in repurchasing this car under the lemon law - but offered me 2 car payments to sign a release of liability which I declined. They then called and asked if I could bring the car back for an 8th (really 10th) attempt to fix. They are aware that the safety features are not working (including Adaptive cruise control, lane sensing, forward collision detection, stability control among others) I am in Maine for the summer - but I arranged for a neighbor to drive the car to them. It was in an accident. I am offended that Genesis would ask anyone to drive that car in this unsafe condition. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

  • Summary: In April 2024, I was driving down a side street at about 30 mph. Suddenly there was a slam against the side of the car. I pulled over a block later and found that the passenger side mirror housing had gone into the "closed/locked" position, evidently at speed, dislodging the side mirror. The mirror had then slammed into the car door frame, denting it, and cracking the mirror, causing some of it to shatter away. Thankfully, my car windows were closed or I would likely have had glass shards flying into my car cabin at high speed. There is no damage at all to the mirror housing. I have no explanation for the sudden, fast closing movement other than something that caused it to think it needed to close. I took the car to a Genesis dealer. Without any examination, they told me it "could not be" a flaw in the car; that there must have been an impact. I asked how that could happen with no damage to the mirror housing at a high enough speed to completely dislodge the glued-in and fastened-in mirror and dent the window frame on the car. They had no explanation. I then reported this to Genesis. Their response was I would have to take it to a dealer to be looked at. Neither dealer in the area would sell me a new mirror to self-install and were "squirrely" about when a repair could be made, citing "supply chain" problems getting a replacement mirror. Three weeks ago (late June), while driving on a highway at approximately 70 mph, the same passenger side mirror housing suddenly slammed into the closed position. There was no damage to the car because the mirror was already missing. But this makes me very concerned about replacing the mirror if this intermittent problem is going to recur. I have an appointment at a different dealership scheduled for the end of this month and (along with the open recall and standard service) am asking them to look at this problem again.   • Summary: Driving down side road about 35-40 MPH with my son, hit a hole in road. Car made a loud boom with immediate signs of problem. (No airbag deploy or warning signs showing on app or on dash) Pulled over to find no issue with tires, body of car or rims of tire. Upon raising hood, found passenger front strut had pushed through engine casing and was hitting top of hood. Fortunately, I was not on a major highway as that could have led to something more serious. (I realize hitting a hole can cause damage but this seems to be a design flaw and I am worried now every time I hit a bump it will trigger this. I get tire/rim damage, but this is pretty significant.) I have an insurance adjuster looking at it now, notified Genesis Corporation and spoke to the Dealer who claims it's an insurance claim. In my research I have found a forum indicating this has happened to others and Genesis hasn't provided a recall or notified users of this as a safety concern. The pictures and description are consistent across the drivers. I just think this is something that needs to be researched before someone gets seriously hurt.

I scheduled the appointment for the replacement, however, the dealer informed me that they would inspect the fuel pump part number and if the recall applied then they would order the part number and once they receive the part they will call me to schedule a time to make the repair. The recall notice said it applied to my vehicle and that the remedy was to replace the fuel pump so I don't understand why they told me that they had to inspect it first and then order the part before making the recall repair. This only increases the time that my unsafe vehicle is on the road. Of course their inspection indicated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced since I had received the recall notice saying just that.

  • Summary: I was driving my vehicle down a pier to the parking entrance for the USS Midway, 610 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101, when for no reason my 2022 GV70, AWD, veered sharply (45 degrees) to the right and made violently contact with a cement block on the pier used to moor ships. I believe there was a failure of the right front suspension system. When I got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage I found some broken bushings on the ground. They were split in half. The right wheel was pushed back 18 inches. I collected all the broken parts and had the vehicle towed to Sun Road Collision Center, 7303 Clairmont Blvd, San Diego, CA 92111. I asked them to save all the broken parts of the suspension system. The USS Midway does have a film of the incident. I was trying to get them to release the video to me. I will upload the photos that I took. I was the only one in the vehicle and knew if that concrete block was not there to stop me I would have gone into San Diego Bay and possibly drowned. The damaged parts are at the Collision Center. I asked them if they saw anything unusual to let me know. I have filed a claim and told what I believe happened to my insurance company, USAA. No police report was filed since the incident occurred off the highway. Two members of the Miday safety team came and provided assistance to me until the tow truck arrived. There were no warning signs or any other indication that this accident was going to occur.

  • Summary: While driving my vehicle on multiple circumstances, the vehicle began having acceleration issues. This has happened while merging onto the highways and making turns. When it does this, you literally have to pull off the road because you can’t merge onto the highway at 25 mph without causing an accident. When it starts having acceleration issues, it will lock my speed and shoot my rpm’s to levels where it shouldn’t be, usually between 3-4, sometimes 5-6 while locking my speed between 25-35. It will lock your speed for 10-15 seconds and then it eventually will come to. It does not emit any sensors on the dashboard when it does this. My dealership has had my vehicle before to diagnose this issue, but due to it happening intermittently, it is hard to replicate it because it does not happen every single day. Prior to my dealership picking up my car this last time, it happened 4 times in a week but has happened 3 times since I got it back after they could not replicate the issue.

Solution would be a recall to reprogram all Hyundai and Genesis vehicles with lane following to only look at the left lines.

  • Summary: The first incident I had occurred approximately three weeks ago. I began accelerating from a stop light when I felt something jerk. My car began to slow down and it would not accelerate. The car would not go over 20 mph per hour. This incident was extremely dangerous as I was on a highway that has a speed limit of 55 mph. I brought the car to the Genesis dealership. They diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump. I got the car back 3 weeks later (today 09/13/2023) and drove it about 10 miles before I experienced a similar issue. I was stopped at a red light when the car began to shake. The car would not accelerate over 15 mph. I brought the car back to the dealership to be looked at again. I will know more when they reopen tomorrow. These incidents are extremely dangerous especially on highways. I am scared to drive this car again for fear it will happen on the interstate or when I am unable to pull over. The replaced fuel pump did not fix the issue.

  • Summary: Three weeks ago while returning to SC from Fl on I95, the engine jolted, stalled momentarily , and would not accelerate to keep up with traffic. I pulled over, turned off the engine, and re-started the engine. It started and sounded normal, as did the car diagnostic screen which showed nothing abnormal. An hour later and engine stalled again ( in traffic) and yet the diagnostic screen continued to show "all normal". Initially I suspected bad gas, but that theory proved wrong when, with a full tank of fresh gas, it stalled and stopped mid-traffic . In all these incidents I was very lucky to not have been hit by distracted driver. The car was towed to my Genesis dealer, and after a perfunctory check they said that using all their diagnostic tools, the car showed ZERO alerts. I refused their answer and insisted that it be test driven by one their staff. After receiving my permission to do so, one poor fellow drove it to his home, but it broke down well before arriving there. At this juncture they finally understood that they had an issue. Here is where it get's interesting, because my tech savvy son surfed several forums such as Reddit, Facebook and Genesis owners site, and discovered many references to fuel pump failures, stalling, near accidents and the like. I don't know how you rate the severity of car safety issues, but I suspect that total engine failure must rate pretty high. All I ask is that you rattle Genesis' cage and ask them how many fuel pump issues/ replacements they have had over the past two years. My hunch is that it is a material percentage. I find it unacceptable that with today's technology, a defect like this which can endanger lives on any road at any speed, is left unchallenged.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Summary: On a few occasions when stopped. Upon acceleration this vehicle would sputter or stall. On Aug. 29, 2023, while driving on the interstate and attempting to pass on the left lane. My speed was around 70 MPH. This vehicle would not accelerate and stated to come to a complete stop. I was able to pull off the road and restart this vehicle. If I was in the middle lanes. This vehicle would have caused a bad accident. As I drove home this vehicle stalled twice. Attempting to accelerate at a light at an intersection. This vehicle stalled in the middle of the intersection. I again avoided an accident attempting to accelerate and restart the vehicle. I was able to drive this vehicle to the dealership, Aug. 30. Since the dealership would not return my calls. The manager informed me that it was the fuel pump. He also stated that he had other vehicle with this same problem. All the fuel pumps are on back order. Also, the recall several months ago for the seat belts. Those parts are also on back order. In my judgment this vehicle is unsafe to operate. Until this issue is investigated by the government and approved to be safe fot the road.

  • Summary: As I was driving, my vehicle completely stopped in traffic. All vehicle functions became disabled. Even when putting the car in neutral, it would not budge. Had it not been for construction workers helping me, I could have been killed due to the heavy traffic flow.

  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Genesis GV70, GV80, G80, and G90 vehicles. The fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of drive power.
  • Consequence: A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 7, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 022G. This recall is an expansion of recall number 23V-630.

  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Genesis GV80, 2021-2023 Genesis G80, 2022-2023 Genesis GV70, and 2023 Genesis GV60 vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.
  • Consequence: An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, strike vehicle occupants, and result in injury.
  • Remedy: Dealers will secure the seat belt pretensioners with a cap, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 14, 2023. For GV60 owners, Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed April 14, 2023. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 012G. This recall supersedes and expands recall number 21V-796. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 21V-796 will need to have the new remedy completed.

This recall is replaced by NHTSA recall numbers 22V-354 for Elantra and Elantra HEV vehicles, 22V-458 for Venue vehicles, and 23V-094 for Genesis vehicles. Elantra, Elantra HEV, Venue, and Genesis vehicles already repaired under this recall will need to have the new remedies completed.

    The adaptive cruise control can be a bit touchy at times. I noticed that if you accelerate over the set speed and then let off the gas, the speed drops immediately instead of a smooth deceleration. Additionally, I experienced some issues with it during light snow flurries, where it was marked as 'unavailable'. It seems like there is still some room for improvement in their definition of 'adaptive'.

    I recently leased a new car and while it rides well, I have had some issues with the electronics. Unfortunately, the company has informed me that they cannot be fixed. From day one, the GPS did not work and a message appears saying 'Route guidance is currently unavailable due to the outdated version of the navigation map. Please update the map to use the route guidance.' Despite having the car serviced five times, the company has informed me that there is no update available. Additionally, all the settings such as the clock, radio, doors, seats, and hatchback do not work and disappear within a few days. The company has informed me that they cannot fix this issue. Another major concern is that the back seat passengers cannot get out of the back seats about 60% of the time because the doors won't open, which is very dangerous. I have requested that the company consider taking the car back, but unfortunately, after 30 days they have declined and did not even offer to try to fix it again. While I understand that the techs may not have been trained for this specific car, the service has been poor. I have asked about the disappearing settings and was told by a tech that the car thinks someone else is driving it. Another tech was unable to locate the engine temperature gauge, which is not on the dash. However, I was able to find it by hitting a button on the steering wheel, along with a few other gauges that really should have been on the dash. Fumbling to find them while driving makes no sense. Based on my experience, I would not purchase or recommend a Genesis.

    My car has been in the shop several times and now the latest is 3 weeks. It is unsafe to drive as it cuts out while driving and decelerates and accelerates without warning. It is clear that the car is a lemon and I demand a resolution to this issue. I will not put myself or my daughter in danger by driving this car again. It is imperative that this matter is resolved immediately.

    I can understand why many people were drawn to this car due to its extraordinary reviews. However, after driving Volvos and Audis for years, I decided to give it a try after a brief test drive. Unfortunately, after 4000 miles of ownership, I decided to trade it in and go back to Volvo. While the car has some pros, such as a nice and quiet drive, good visibility, excellent stereo, comfortable seats, and a very pretty exterior, there were also some cons that I found unacceptable for a $52k car. The electronics and systems were just too funky for my liking. For example, the stereo died just two days into ownership and needed a software reset. The adaptive cruise control was also frightening at times, suddenly slowing down without any obvious reason at all. The AC sometimes worked and sometimes did not, and the AppleCar play was inconsistent with the spoken navigation directions. The tire pressure monitoring system was all over the place, causing me to constantly fill with air just in case. Additionally, the windshield was difficult to clean, even after going through a car wash. All of these issues made me worried about long-term ownership, especially since I don't live near a dealership and the promised 'we will come to you' service didn't happen in reality. Despite the quieter ride, I feel a lot more certain about the systems in my Volvo than I ever did in the Genesis.

    I have a Genesis GV70 that I really enjoy. The seats are comfortable, the ride is smooth, and the technology is fascinating. Although I haven't explored all of its features yet, I'm excited to do so. However, I was disappointed when the Hyundai dealership in Shreveport, LA closed without any notice. Now, I have to travel 80 miles to Longview, TX or 250 miles to Lafayette, LA to get service. It seems like Genesis didn't consider their customers when making this decision. I spoke with Brianna, a case manager, but it was difficult to get in touch with her. Our conversations were about the dealership closure and the cost of my oil change. Brianna offered me $300, but I declined because I was entitled to concierge service. Now that everyone is being routed to Longview, TX, it's difficult to get an appointment. I've been dealing with my check engine light for the last 3 months and it's been a challenge to get it fixed. The dealership couldn't figure out whether it was a spark plug or cylinder and Genesis wouldn't give them permission to do both parts without knowing which one was the issue.They cut it off and told me to bring it back as soon as it comes back on. I had to make an appointment and again they were overpacked! The appointment was for the following Saturday at 10am. Well, the light went off a couple of days before that Saturday and I tried to cancel that appointment because even I know that they can't check it when the light's off. It was so hard to get someone to answer the phone over there, but that's a conversation for another time. This would have been my second trip to Longview for the check engine light. So, I'm back today with two appointments, one for an oil change and another for the check engine light (9:30 & 11:00) and again I'm told there are no vehicles if they need to keep it. I hope Genesis can step up on their promises or not give any at all. We all know that would really be bad for business for the kind of vehicles you're conveying to the public. When we bought our Genesis home, it was advertisement because no one had hardly heard of a Genesis. My husband and I have received many compliments on our GV70 and we love it. We really do love our car and would like to buy another one, but this is very frustrating to me to have to deal with this on my new Genesis. I am unhappy about the promises. Where is the concierge service?

    There are many great features in this car, and I'm sure I'll eventually learn to use them all. The ride is smooth and quiet, which is a big plus for me. As someone with long legs, I always look for plenty of legroom on the driver's side, and this car has perhaps the most legroom of any car I've looked at. It's fantastic! Additionally, there are lots of safety features, and the front display is enormous. I'm really loving this car so far, and I've received lots of positive comments on it too.

    No need to deal with thousands of dollars in markups for every feature when considering Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. Genesis' new SUVs raise the bar with every conceivable safety feature, all made available for thousands less than other cars. While other manufacturers have stopped investing in traditional vehicles and are looking towards EVs in the next 5 years, I am very pleased with the SUV lineup from Genesis.

    There aren't many luxury brands out there that have vehicles that aren't a dime a dozen and have settled into mediocrity - in this price range. However, the GV70 stands out from the crowd with its advanced technology and luxurious ride. I opted for the 2.5T Prestige model for its better gas mileage and softer ride, which is perfect for Canadian roads. Although there were some initial issues with the rear differential, the service I received was excellent and they made the repair process easy for me. Despite a few more problems that arose, such as a fender bender and some repairs to the throttle body and steering rack, I still believe that the GV70 has the best infotainment system available in this price range. With its amazing 14.5The car is very comfortable, even in extreme temperatures. You can start it with your phone, turn on the heated seats and steering wheel, set the temperature, and it will be toasty warm when you get in. The build quality is excellent, and it creates a smooth, super quiet ride. I find myself feeling more calm after my commute instead of stressed out like I used to be. Although there have been some service issues with some dealerships, the car itself has been rock solid. I plan to keep this vehicle for 10+ years. Overall, it's a great car!
