Ford F150 problems
The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.
History
The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.
The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.
The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).
Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

Common Ford F150 problems
The Ford F-150, a popular pickup truck, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. The worst problem category for the Ford F-150 is engine problems.
One common issue with the Ford F-150 is an audible moan from the transmission, which affects two-wheel-drive examples and concerns the driveshaft center bearing. The repair involves jacking up the vehicle and checking whether or not there is a 19mm shin in the driveshaft center bearing. If there is, it must be removed.
Another problem is an audible click from the steering rack, which is attributed to a worn upper intermediate shaft in the steering column. This issue can be resolved by replacing the worn shaft.
A saggy headliner is also a common problem in certain non-sunroof models built between 2012 and 2013. Although not an immediate repair issue, having a sagging headliner can be annoying. Fortunately, this is an easy fix per the manual's instructions.
Air-conditioning/climate control noise is another issue reported by some owners. The problem lies with a vent motor and flap that are insufficiently lubricated, which can be easily remedied by following the instructions in the Haynes F-150 manual.
Additionally, the 2004 Ford F-150 has been reported to have issues with the Ram PCM, which can be extensive and often require taking the car to a mechanic for repair.
A powertrain control module (PCM) failure can also cause a range of symptoms, from subtle changes in vehicle behavior to more pronounced mechanical and electrical issues. Recognizing these symptoms early can save from potential inconvenience and costly repairs.
The Ford F-150 has also been reported to have issues with little or no heat in the cabin, with 419 people reporting this problem.
These common problems with the Ford F-150 can help potential buyers and current owners be aware of potential issues and take proactive steps toward addressing them.

Which year of F-150 is most reliable?
2015-2020 Ford F-150
After 2017 and later, the rest of the models for this generation are widely considered reliable and great to buy as used. Specifically, the 2018 F-150 is easily one of the best and most reliable models of pickup trucks, thanks to its high durability ratings and great mileage.
What is the issue with the Ford F-150?
Ford is recalling certain 2021-2023 F-150 vehicles equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy duty axle with a 3/4 float axle design. The rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, according to the notice, which can result in damage to the axle hub splines.

Ford F150 1981
- Date Of Incident: 2010-07-01
- Date Complaint: 2011-01-24
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: I PURCHASED FOUR USED SX 5000 STARFIRE (COOPER) 255/70-15 TIRES FOR MY 1981 FORD F-150 IN MARCH OF 2010. THE TIRES WERE MOUNTED TO WHAT I BELIEVE ARE 15X8 STEEL WHEELS BY THE INDEPENDENT TIRE SHOP THAT I PURCHASED THE TIRES FROM. I THEN DROVE FROM SAINT PETERSBURG, FL TO AUSTIN, TX ON THE TIRES WITH NO PROBLEMS. OVER THE NEXT TWO OR THREE MONTHS, I DROVE ABOUT 500 MILES ON THE TIRES WITH NO ISSUES, UNTIL ONE DAY ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES WAS FLAT IN MY DRIVEWAY, WITH THE TREAD SEPARATED IN ONE AREA. I REPLACED BOTH FRONT WHEELS WITH SPARE WHEELS AND TIRES (UNKNOWN EXACT SPECIFICATIONS, BUT SMALLER), AND WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, ONE OF THE REAR TIRES (AGAIN, IN MY DRIVEWAY) WAS FLAT, WITH THE TREAD SEPARATED. I PLACED TWO OTHER SPARE WHEELS/TIRES ON THE REAR AND PLACED THE SX 5000S IN MY GARAGE. WITHIN A WEEK, THE TWO SX5000S THAT HAD AIR IN THEM HAD BLOWN, AGAIN WITH THE TREAD SEPARATED. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WHEN THE WEATHER OUTSIDE TURNED HOT (SUMMER). TIRE PRESSURES WERE MAINTAINED NEAR (UNDER) THE MAXIMUM SIDEWALL SPECIFICATIONS, AND THE F-150 WAS NEVER OVERLOADED. THE TRUCK IS PRIMARILY USED FOR FAMILY TRANSPORTATION. I CALLED COOPER AT 1-800-854-6288 BECAUSE RECALL # 147 CLOSELY MATCHED THE PROBLEMS I EXPERIENCED, BUT I WAS TOLD MY TIRES WERE MANUFACTURED IN 2003 AND WERE NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE TIRE INFORMATION IS: DOT 3DM2 B7W3903 C14R. I WAS ADMONISHED BY THE COOPER REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT PURCHASING AND USING USED TIRES, BUT GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF ALL FOUR TIRES ESSENTIALLY BLOWING OUT WITH TREAD SEPARATION IN UNEXPECTED FASHION WITHIN A FEW WEEKS (OF SUMMER TEMPERATURES), I FEEL THAT THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM IS THE DESIGN OF THE TIRES, AND NOT THAT THE TIRES WERE ABUSED. UNTIL THE FAILURES, THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES DID NOT FALL OR RISE EXCEPT DUE TO AIR TEMPERATURES AND DRIVING FORCES, AND THE TREAD LIFE WAS AT LEAST 50%. *TR

I really admire this truck! Despite having 209,000 miles on it, the 5.4L and transmission are still going strong. Unfortunately, the rear axle seal went out and I ended up damaging the gears in the differential - my mistake. I've also been told that the control arm bushings are known to start making noises in all Fords, so those will need to be replaced. However, aside from those issues, I haven't had any problems with it. Every mechanic I've spoken to has assured me that as long as I keep up with maintenance, it will last well beyond 300,000 miles. I'm so impressed that my next truck will definitely be a Ford F150!

Other than the gas mileage being low at 6-8 mpg, this truck is great! The 4wd is phenomenal and it really makes a difference in the winter. As it's an older vehicle, it will need maintenance and more, but it's perfect for what I need.

The F-150 is an amazing car! I have been driving it for 3 years and it has been a great experience. When I bought it, it had 20k miles on it and now it has 105k miles and still runs great. The only mechanical problems I have had were with the spark plugs and a wheel lug breaking off, but other than that, nothing. The interior is nicely designed and the car has plenty of power. While the 0-60 time is good, it could be improved. I am confident that this truck will easily last another 80k miles and will not disappoint!

I actually have wrecked this truck and totaled it. A S-10 going 60mph T-boned me, but I was left unharmed. Thank you for producing this truck, Ford!

I drive my Ford to and from work every day, covering a distance of 13 miles. Occasionally, I drive during the day. I have to fill up every four days, which I do when the fuel gauge reaches 1/4. However, I absolutely love the fun of the ride. The acceleration is great and I enjoy it when I drive and people think they can beat that guy in the old Ford. I got the 5.0 and E4OD, which makes it great at the line and good at puddle hopping. There is a three-foot puddle I hit every week and this truck can go down, up, and through the puddle.

I would not consider purchasing another one unless improvements have been made to address the issues of rusting on the body and gas mileage.

Vehicle year: 2000
The 4.6-liter V-8 engine equipped in this truck is not suitable for towing a 22-foot boat weighing around 4000 pounds, as it struggles to maintain power on even the slightest grades, requiring constant downshifts. The truck's underpowering and non-locking differential make it ineffective in pulling the boat and trailer up boat ramps. However, it performs well when not towing.

I purchased this pickup hoping to get at least 20 MPG and this has been a disappointment. However, I must say that I really like the handling and performance of this truck. It has plenty of power for what I need. The best I have ever gotten is 18 MPG going downhill, but other than that, it has been a great truck. I just wish it got better mileage.

Good farm pickup. It has had light use, mostly on oiled roads.
