The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup. Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6–8 commercial trucks.

History

The F-Series was first introduced in 1948 as a replacement for a previous pickup model line based on car platforms.

The most popular version of the model line is the F-150 pickup truck, currently in its fourteenth generation (introduced for the 2021 model year). From 1953 to 1983, the entry-level F-Series pickup was the 1⁄2 ton F-100. Starting in 1984, the F-150 became the entry-level. The F-150 has a long-running high-performance off-road trim level introduced for 2010, the (SVT) Raptor currently consisting of three generations. Production of the F-150 SVT Raptor ended in 2014 and it was planned to be succeeded by a new F-150 Raptor, which is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth generation F-150.

The F-Series trucks have been developed into a wide range of design configurations. Alongside medium-duty trucks and "Big Job" conventional trucks (the forerunners of the Ford L-series), the model line has been marketed as a chassis-cab truck and a panel van (a predecessor of the Ford E-Series). The F-Series has served as the platform for various full-sized Ford SUVs, including the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Excursion. The F-Series has been marketed by its three North American brands: by Mercury as the M-Series (in Canada from 1948 to 1968), and by Lincoln in the 2000s, as the Blackwood and the later Mark LT (2010s for the latter in Mexico only).

Since 1977, the F-Series has remained the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States; it has been the best-selling vehicle overall since 1981. The F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for over fifty years. As of the 2018 model year, the F-Series generated $41 billion (~$49 billion in 2023) in annual revenue for Ford. By January 2022, the F-Series models have sold over 40 million units. Currently, Ford manufactures the F-Series in four facilities in the United States.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I bought my truck on auction for $4k and it has been the best money I've ever spent. I've had no problems with it except for a stripped drain plug. It has plenty of power, passenger space, and cargo space. The only complaints I have are in regards to its size and fuel economy. It's a bit difficult to park in any place other than straight in, and the best MPG I've gotten is 17 hwy.

  2. Damon Maggio 2024-11-09

The 4.6-liter V-8 engine equipped in this truck is not suitable for towing a 22-foot boat weighing around 4000 pounds, as it struggles to maintain power on even the slightest grades, requiring constant downshifts. The truck's underpowering and non-locking differential make it ineffective in pulling the boat and trailer up boat ramps. However, it performs well when not towing.

  3. Norris Kihn 2024-10-04

I purchased this pickup hoping to get at least 20 MPG and this has been a disappointment. However, I must say that I really like the handling and performance of this truck. It has plenty of power for what I need. The best I have ever gotten is 18 MPG going downhill, but other than that, it has been a great truck. I just wish it got better mileage.

  4. Ned Runolfsdottir 2024-08-22

Hey there! I use this truck every day for installing fences. It always gets the job done, but I've noticed that the 4.2 V6 is a bit underpowered when the truck is loaded or pulling a trailer.

  5. Dewitt Abshire 2024-08-19

Good light work truck... good towing and hauling. Solid on long trips. Minor repairs necessary on ignition and some seals... all covered by warranty. A/C could be better.

Positive 2000 Ford F150 car reviews

  1. Sean Nikolaus 2025-03-06

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my truck. I bought it back in 2004 to replace my old Ram, which was not a great truck. But this one has been amazing! It's been 11 years and it's still going strong. I was surprised to see some people complaining about the power of their trucks, but I have a 4.6L engine and it gives me tons of power. I've never had to do any major work on it, and although some small things have started to go wrong recently (like the ABS light, AIR valve, and rusted fuel tank straps), everything else is still in top-notch working order. The engine runs great and starts up even in the coldest weather, and the transmission shows no signs of stopping, even with 127000 miles. I'm definitely going to get another F150 for my next truck!

  2. Clement Kemmer 2025-03-01

It's great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your truck! You've clearly taken good care of it and it's paid off with a trouble-free engine, auto tranny, and 4x4. It's also impressive that you've been able to use it for off-road activities like hunting and firewood in BC Canada. It's good to know that maintenance is cheap and that you've been able to improve its performance with a cat back dual exhaust and a cold air intake. It's understandable that you would like more power when towing bigger trailers, but it's great that your truck still gets the job done. Overall, it sounds like you have a reliable and comfortable truck that you're happy with. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  3. Blake Gleason 2025-03-01

This truck offers a luxurious car-like ride that is both reliable and attractive. Although the engine may not be the most powerful, it is certainly powerful enough. I personally upgraded to a K&N air filter and was pleasantly surprised by the dramatic improvement in throttle response. While I have had to change the front brakes 4 times, it's not too crazy. When the stock tires wore out, I upgraded and the handling is now incredible. The only issue I have encountered is that, like any pick-up truck, it has a tendency to slip and slide on icy roads.

  4. Gordon Rutherford 2025-02-19

This is the best truck out there! I haven't had any problems with it. I've found that the dealer does the best work on the truck. I'm a bit afraid to trade it in and buy another one because I won't get anything for it, but it's just so reliable!

  5. Sheridan Mann 2025-02-16

Tow 7500-8000 lbs up mountains, tack 4500 all day @60mph. It gets 10 mpg while towing and never misses a beat. It pulls hard, tows well and runs great. I always do all required maintenance. Although I have had some small problems, the transmission is holding up fine and it never runs hot!
