Ford Ecosport problems

The Ford EcoSport (pronounced Eh-koh-sport) is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured by Ford between 2003 and 2023.
The first-generation model was developed and built in Brazil by Ford Brazil since 2003, at the Camaçari plant. The second-generation model was launched in 2012, which was assembled in factories in India, Thailand, Russia and Romania. The vehicle entered the North American market for the first time in 2018, until its discontinuation after the 2022 model year. Throughout its existence, the EcoSport shares its platform with the Fiesta.
First generation (BV226; 2003)
The first generation EcoSport was designed by Ford Brazil Development Center under the program code BV226, and the codename "Amazon Project". It is based on the European Fiesta and Fusion MPV, sharing the same Ford B3 platform.
The EcoSport became one of Ford's best-seller models in Brazil, consistently appearing on the twenty best selling vehicles. It was also popular in Argentina, Venezuela, and Mexico. Its main competitors were the Fiat Palio Adventure and Volkswagen CrossFox. In 2011, cumulative sales reached 700,000.

Common Ford Ecosport problems
The Ford EcoSport has been known to have several common problems that owners have reported over the years. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the oil pump in the 1.0-liter turbo engine, which can fail and result in complete engine failure.
Another common problem with the EcoSport is the gearbox. The PowerShift (DCT) Dual-Clutch gearboxes in older second-generation Ford EcoSports were prone to severe breakdowns, particularly between 2012 and 2017. Ford upgraded all markets to a new, more reliable automatic gearbox using a torque converter in 2018. However, transmission problems, such as shuddering and jerking, delayed shifts, gear slipping, and grinding noise, have been reported in both manual and automatic transmissions of the 2021 EcoSport.
The electrical system is another area where the EcoSport has faced issues. Many owners have reported problems with the battery draining quickly, even when the vehicle is not in use, leading to problems starting the vehicle and even complete battery failure in some cases.
Safety concerns have also been reported by 2021 EcoSport owners. Many owners have reported issues with the blind spot monitoring system, which is intended to alert drivers to vehicles in their blind spots. Some owners have reported that the system fails to detect vehicles in certain situations, creating a safety risk. There have also been reports of problems with the vehicle’s airbags and seat belts, although these issues have not yet led to recalls or technical service bulletins from Ford.
In addition to these issues, the EcoSport's interior materials lack refinement found in some competitors in the class, and the ride is on the firm side, making it less isolated to cracks and bumps on the road. Road and wind noise are noticeable at higher speeds, the 1.0-liter engine feels underpowered when passing on the highway, rear seat space is limited, lacking in legroom, and it's more suitable for children. No spare tire, although with the addition of an optional carrier, the spare tire can be mounted to the tailgate. The trunk space is small with rear seats up.
In conclusion, while the Ford EcoSport is a reasonably priced subcompact crossover, it has faced several common problems related to the oil pump, gearbox, electrical system, and safety features. Owners are recommended to stay vigilant and regularly check for defective parts to ensure the vehicle's safety, efficiency, and reliability on the roads for years to come.
What is the most common problem with the Ford EcoSport?
Overheating Issues: A frequent complaint among Ford EcoSport owners is overheating. This can stem from issues like a malfunctioning thermostat, radiator problems, or a faulty water pump. Timely attention is crucial to prevent engine damage.
Is the Ford EcoSport engine reliable?
Ford EcoSport reliability
In 2021 it finished in 25th place out of 29 manufacturers. EcoSport owners were happy with reliability and build quality, along with the car's design and its performance. However, a fairly poor result for running costs shows that its petrol engines may return lower fuel economy than expected.
What are the disadvantages of Ford EcoSport?
Being a sub-four meter compact SUV, the Ecosport falls a bit short in terms of in-cabin space. While the feel in front seats is fantastic, the rear bench feels a bit cramped with limited legroom and knee room, making it a bit uncomfortable for long runs.
Is A Ford EcoSport a good buy?
For most people, the 1.0-litre 125hp petrol will be the one to have, because it's cheap to buy and reasonably nippy in town. The precise controls, easy-changing gearbox and decent view out help you drive the Ford EcoSport smoothly in town and the cabin is pretty quiet on the motorway.

- Summary: On Tuesday, [XXX] I could have been killed on the highway due to the recall from Ford. I’m thankful I am alive today. I was driving when my engine oil pressure light came on, my speed slowed down, my car was rumbling, my engine locked up and I had to weave through traffic to pull over on the side of the road. I had to spend money to have it towed to a mechanic. The mechanic told me it was most likely caused by the recall. I had it towed to Ford in Crestview, FL. Ford said they are also pretty sure it was due to the recall. Ford Crestview told me it could take WEEKS to diagnose, and then I would have to have a whole new engine/parts in which Ford won’t have until 2025. My car will be sitting at Ford for MONTHS. Ford does not care. They don’t care I almost died. I now do not feel safe in this vehicle. I get married on the [XXX], and I have a honey moon after. I depend on this vehicle for my job, etc. i am my dads caretaker who has cancer, and we had to skip his doctor appointment because my car was not available. His WHEELCHAIR fits in my car. Ford won’t give me a loaner vehicle until they diagnose it, and Ford Crestview informed me that they don’t even know if they will have a loaner vehicle. So what happens now? Cancel the wedding? Cancel the honeymoon? Keep canceling my dads doctor appointments and he will just pass away? Please help expedite this. Why would the dealership even diagnose it, when they technically have until 2025 when parts come in. Ford is not handling this well for over 100,000 people. This is for the OIL PUMP RECALL that almost made me lose my life. Someone take this seriously. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle year: 2021
I've been reading some 'expert' reviews that describe this car as not worth the money. While that may be true if you were paying MSRP, I don't know anyone who is. If you buy last year's model (2020 at the beginning of 2021), you can get fantastic rebates. I was able to get a Titanium loaded with every option, including AWD, for under 20k. In my opinion, there are only three negatives to this car: the excessive use of hard plastics on the interior, the gas mileage, and the fact that the engine is a little lethargic. On the flip side, the Bang and Olufsen stereo in the Titanium is outstanding, the ride is pretty good, and the storage is good. When you compare what you ACTUALLY pay for what you get, it is an outstanding value. To get another brand of subcompact AWD SUV, you would spend at least another 5 or 6K after they give all of their discounts.

If you're like me, you probably read every review at least 50 times before making a decision. Unfortunately, most experts don't review from a consumer's perspective, but rather an artificial world of non-comparables. As a real consumer in my late 50s, I've owned at least 20 different cars in my life (probably more), and I can honestly say that the value for the dollar with the 2020 Ecosport Titanium with 4WD and the 2-liter engine is superb. At around $22K, it's an absolute steal. This fun little peppy car is easy to park, has just enough cargo space, and comes with leather heated seats and steering wheel, as well as a Bang and Olufsen sound system. Need I say more? Anything comparable in the Japanese realm will push you well into the $30s. The Ford Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is seamless. It may not be a Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW, or Mercedes, but that's not what the buyer is looking for. And to be completely honest, it won't eat you alive for service like those manufacturers. If you're looking for a really good runabout that's fun, looks unique, and is reasonable on gas, you just found it!

2020 SE 4x4 2.0. Hi there! I wanted to share my thoughts on this little SUV. Overall, I really like it, although I do wish it had better gas mileage. The cargo space is just okay and the backseats can be a bit cramped if you have passengers, but the AWD works great in the snow and I love the ride height. Plus, it's not too bad for a cheap vehicle - after rebates, mine was only 18k!

Vehicle year: 2022
When I first saw this car in the showroom, I had my doubts. However, after sitting in it and taking it for a test drive, I fell in love with it! The car handles well and has a surprisingly smooth ride. The 3 cylinder engine has more pep than the 4 in my Focus! It's truly an amazing vehicle! UPDATE: At first, I wasn't impressed when I saw one of these on the showroom floor. But after taking it for a test drive, I was blown away! The car rides smoothly despite the short wheelbase and handles like a fine-tuned sports car. Everything is conveniently located and I love the overall design inside and out. The curbside rear door was also a major selling point. I hope these cars are still around when it's time for me to get another one.

[Update to my original review - below]: Hi there! I wanted to share an update on my 2018 EcoSport SES. I've now owned it for 22 months and have driven about 28K miles. I'm happy to report that the vehicle has been completely trouble-free and all scheduled maintenance has been free so far - thanks to the 42,000 RewardPass points I received when I enrolled in FordPass. When I first bought this car, I honestly didn't expect to keep it for very long. But after my experience to-date, I'm definitely going to keep it for a long time! I love the way it handles, its small size, and all of its features (nav, safety, heated steering wheel, etc). Plus, the AWD and comfortable seats make it perfect for long road-trips. And the best part? I consistently get 31-34 mpg! The build quality is really good - much better than my previous car (Hyundai Elantra - which supposedly is great quality, but I suffered through 4 lawsuits/recalls with it). The tri-color paint has held up really well. I just haven't found any reason to not like this car, despite my initial low expectations of it.-------------------------Recently, I purchased my 2018 EcoSport SES w/ Cold Weather Package. Thanks to various Ford rebates and dealer discounts, I was able to get it for a heavily discounted price of $17,100 (plus taxes/license) for a loaded AWD with an MSRP of $28,969! Despite some poor reviews this vehicle has received, I haven't found much to not like about it. The ride is solid and firm (and quiet on most road surfaces). The power is plenty and the transmission shifts smoothly. So far, my fuel economy is great (30.9 mpg). The comfort features are excellent - power seat, lumbar, heated seats/steering-wheel, auto climate control, etc. And the technology features (Sync-3) like 8The safety features of this car are incredible, especially the blind spot info and full-time AWD with stability control. I personally love the side swing cargo gate and the tall cargo area. I opted for the white platinum tri-coat paint option with the 17

Hi there! I wanted to let you know that the Ecosport unfortunately doesn't come with a spare tire. When we had a flat tire, we reached out to Ford Pass for help, but unfortunately they weren't able to assist us and we had to call a wrecker at our own expense. It seems like changing tires is becoming less common these days. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

I experienced some issues with my Focus and decided to trust Ford once again by purchasing an EcoSport. Unfortunately, the car has had some problems, including a faulty battery and window washer pump. Today, the car wouldn't start and the Ford dealer had to order a new part for the computer. Although I am disappointed with these issues, I am confident that the dealer will resolve the problem and ensure that my car is running smoothly. However, there was a delay in the repair due to the wrong part being ordered, causing me to be late for work. Despite this setback, I trust that the dealer will handle the situation with competence and efficiency.

This car does have laggy speed acceleration and limited cargo room. The infotainment is easy to use with little to no glitches. I love all the latest tech it has to offer, and the quality on the rear view camera is amazing! Overall, I wouldn't recommend this car because acceleration is laggy. In my opinion, the sticker price is high and for that price, I might as well upgrade to a car that is more roomy and provides better acceleration.

I have owned two Ford vehicles, including the 2020 Ford Ecosport Titanium 2.0, and unfortunately, both have experienced issues. Despite my disappointment, I am confident in my decision to have it repaired and trust that the canister purge valve will be fixed. While I am aware that this issue has affected other Ford models, I am hopeful that the dealer will cover the repair under warranty. Although I have had concerns with the gas mileage, I have found that using premium fuel and fuel injector cleaner has improved it. It is worth noting that this is a subcompact SUV, so it may not be the best fit for larger families or those in need of ample trunk space. Overall, I remain optimistic about the future of my Ford vehicle and look forward to enjoying it for years to come.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I made the first payment on my 2020 EcoSport SE, but unfortunately it's currently in the Ford garage getting some work done. The rear shocks and struts have a known issue, so they ordered new ones. Even though it only has 1400 miles on it, I'm confident that it will be running smoothly again soon. In the meantime, Ford has kindly provided me with a rental car until mine is fixed. Just a friendly reminder to make your payments on time. Thank you!
