Ford Ecosport problems

The Ford EcoSport (pronounced Eh-koh-sport) is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured by Ford between 2003 and 2023.
The first-generation model was developed and built in Brazil by Ford Brazil since 2003, at the Camaçari plant. The second-generation model was launched in 2012, which was assembled in factories in India, Thailand, Russia and Romania. The vehicle entered the North American market for the first time in 2018, until its discontinuation after the 2022 model year. Throughout its existence, the EcoSport shares its platform with the Fiesta.
First generation (BV226; 2003)
The first generation EcoSport was designed by Ford Brazil Development Center under the program code BV226, and the codename "Amazon Project". It is based on the European Fiesta and Fusion MPV, sharing the same Ford B3 platform.
The EcoSport became one of Ford's best-seller models in Brazil, consistently appearing on the twenty best selling vehicles. It was also popular in Argentina, Venezuela, and Mexico. Its main competitors were the Fiat Palio Adventure and Volkswagen CrossFox. In 2011, cumulative sales reached 700,000.

Common Ford Ecosport problems
The Ford EcoSport has been known to have several common problems that owners have reported over the years. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the oil pump in the 1.0-liter turbo engine, which can fail and result in complete engine failure.
Another common problem with the EcoSport is the gearbox. The PowerShift (DCT) Dual-Clutch gearboxes in older second-generation Ford EcoSports were prone to severe breakdowns, particularly between 2012 and 2017. Ford upgraded all markets to a new, more reliable automatic gearbox using a torque converter in 2018. However, transmission problems, such as shuddering and jerking, delayed shifts, gear slipping, and grinding noise, have been reported in both manual and automatic transmissions of the 2021 EcoSport.
The electrical system is another area where the EcoSport has faced issues. Many owners have reported problems with the battery draining quickly, even when the vehicle is not in use, leading to problems starting the vehicle and even complete battery failure in some cases.
Safety concerns have also been reported by 2021 EcoSport owners. Many owners have reported issues with the blind spot monitoring system, which is intended to alert drivers to vehicles in their blind spots. Some owners have reported that the system fails to detect vehicles in certain situations, creating a safety risk. There have also been reports of problems with the vehicle’s airbags and seat belts, although these issues have not yet led to recalls or technical service bulletins from Ford.
In addition to these issues, the EcoSport's interior materials lack refinement found in some competitors in the class, and the ride is on the firm side, making it less isolated to cracks and bumps on the road. Road and wind noise are noticeable at higher speeds, the 1.0-liter engine feels underpowered when passing on the highway, rear seat space is limited, lacking in legroom, and it's more suitable for children. No spare tire, although with the addition of an optional carrier, the spare tire can be mounted to the tailgate. The trunk space is small with rear seats up.
In conclusion, while the Ford EcoSport is a reasonably priced subcompact crossover, it has faced several common problems related to the oil pump, gearbox, electrical system, and safety features. Owners are recommended to stay vigilant and regularly check for defective parts to ensure the vehicle's safety, efficiency, and reliability on the roads for years to come.
What is the most common problem with the Ford EcoSport?
Overheating Issues: A frequent complaint among Ford EcoSport owners is overheating. This can stem from issues like a malfunctioning thermostat, radiator problems, or a faulty water pump. Timely attention is crucial to prevent engine damage.
Is the Ford EcoSport engine reliable?
Ford EcoSport reliability
In 2021 it finished in 25th place out of 29 manufacturers. EcoSport owners were happy with reliability and build quality, along with the car's design and its performance. However, a fairly poor result for running costs shows that its petrol engines may return lower fuel economy than expected.
What are the disadvantages of Ford EcoSport?
Being a sub-four meter compact SUV, the Ecosport falls a bit short in terms of in-cabin space. While the feel in front seats is fantastic, the rear bench feels a bit cramped with limited legroom and knee room, making it a bit uncomfortable for long runs.
Is A Ford EcoSport a good buy?
For most people, the 1.0-litre 125hp petrol will be the one to have, because it's cheap to buy and reasonably nippy in town. The precise controls, easy-changing gearbox and decent view out help you drive the Ford EcoSport smoothly in town and the cabin is pretty quiet on the motorway.

- Summary: On Tuesday, [XXX] I could have been killed on the highway due to the recall from Ford. I’m thankful I am alive today. I was driving when my engine oil pressure light came on, my speed slowed down, my car was rumbling, my engine locked up and I had to weave through traffic to pull over on the side of the road. I had to spend money to have it towed to a mechanic. The mechanic told me it was most likely caused by the recall. I had it towed to Ford in Crestview, FL. Ford said they are also pretty sure it was due to the recall. Ford Crestview told me it could take WEEKS to diagnose, and then I would have to have a whole new engine/parts in which Ford won’t have until 2025. My car will be sitting at Ford for MONTHS. Ford does not care. They don’t care I almost died. I now do not feel safe in this vehicle. I get married on the [XXX], and I have a honey moon after. I depend on this vehicle for my job, etc. i am my dads caretaker who has cancer, and we had to skip his doctor appointment because my car was not available. His WHEELCHAIR fits in my car. Ford won’t give me a loaner vehicle until they diagnose it, and Ford Crestview informed me that they don’t even know if they will have a loaner vehicle. So what happens now? Cancel the wedding? Cancel the honeymoon? Keep canceling my dads doctor appointments and he will just pass away? Please help expedite this. Why would the dealership even diagnose it, when they technically have until 2025 when parts come in. Ford is not handling this well for over 100,000 people. This is for the OIL PUMP RECALL that almost made me lose my life. Someone take this seriously. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

It's a bit smaller than what I'm used to driving, but other than that, it's a really nice vehicle.

Vehicle year: 2020
I'm really surprised that this vehicle gets such bad press, because I absolutely love it! I have the Eco Sport with 2.0 and AWD SE, and it's been fantastic. The heated seats and sunroof are great, and the infotainment system is top-notch. Living in the NW, AWD is a must, and this car handles it all without any issues. It's also incredibly easy to park, with great visibility and a tight turning radius. I'm so happy with my purchase, and I would definitely buy this car again in a heartbeat. Even with all the discounts, it was less expensive than most entry-level cars. I've been getting an average of 28 mpg with a 50/50 split of highway and city driving. While it may not be the fastest car out there, and it's not a luxury SUV, it's definitely worth considering and the money.

I've been comparing compact SUVs and have driven the Trax and Venue, but neither of them ride or look better than the Ecosport. Despite what many reviews say, there are no better cars for the same price. With Ford's $5500 and additional $500 incentives, every other small SUV costs $3K or more than the Ecosport. I have the 'S' model with 4WD and 2.0L power plant, and my price was $16,040 (plates and tax additional). Thanks to Ford's owner's points system, I received $220 in my account that I can use for any service work, such as an oil change. Although I dislike all the electronic gizmo garbage, the start-stop feature, and all the lights coming on when I open a door, the Ecosport is still the best deal. I will write another review after I put 5K miles on it. It's been a year with 2600 miles, and I still believe the Ecosport was the best deal. Although the gas mileage is okay, and the ride is a little stiff, it travels just fine on the highway, especially when using cruise control (32mpg). I'm not saying it's better than the Encore, Trax, or other small SUVs, but it's thousands less. The 2.0L is just barely okay, and I would never get the 1.0L. They should have made the start-stop option to be off, and then if you want to use it, you would have to turn it on instead of having to turn it off every time you start your car! In February 2023, buying a new car in 2020 was the perfect time. To buy the same car in 2021, 2022, or 2023, you had to pay full MSRP or nearly it! Although I still hate the start-stop feature, the cellphone feature is hands-free, voice-activated, and easy to set up. If the Ecosport trade-in value stays solid, it was a win-win deal for me.Just went over 8K miles, and everything is still the same. I'm so glad I bought this car when I did!

I really enjoy driving the EcoSport. From the moment I sat in it, I felt like it was tailored to my needs. As someone who is on the shorter side, I appreciated how well it fit me. Overall, I found the car to be quite impressive. While the gas mileage could be better, I have only driven 2000 miles since February, so it hasn't been a major issue for me. The only thing I would have liked is a CD player. Additionally, I have found it difficult to open the hatch door from the inside, which can be inconvenient when I am picking up groceries in the rain and no one is around to help me unlock it from the outside.

Vehicle year: 2022
I absolutely adore my Eco Sport! I have the 2021 model with a sleek gray exterior and a lovely tan interior. Driving it is a breeze and it has a sporty feel to it. It's perfect for running errands around town, going to school or work, and even shopping. I've taken it on several 4 to 6 hour road trips and it's incredibly comfortable. The only drawback I've noticed is that it struggles a bit with engine power on mountainous terrain, but it's not a major issue. This car is definitely designed for city driving and has plenty of storage space. The seats even fold down completely! The gas mileage is a bit low for a small car, but the price was fantastic (I bought it new) and driving it is just so much fun. I'm still extremely satisfied with this car even 2 years later. The only minor issue I've had is with the area between the windshield and the front doors, which can be a bit of a blind spot. However, I've learned to lean to the right or left to see past it and it hasn't been a major problem.

Vehicle year: 2021
The vehicle has some downsides such as limited storage in the glove box, console, and other areas, noisy engine, struggles on inclines, noisy brakes, and a loud and rough ride. However, there are also some good things about it. I absolutely love the cloth heated seats, the button to disable the stop/start feature is convenient, the 4x4 feature is nice, the backup camera is helpful due to the blindspots, the touchscreen is big, and the speakers sound great. Although I have only driven it for less than 1000 miles, I have noticed that the gas mileage is lower than I expected. At 4,000 miles, I noticed that the tailpipe is already starting to rust, which may be normal. Sometimes there is a delay when shifting from reverse to drive. Overall, I think there are better options available for the same amount of money, but this vehicle is still a decent choice.

1. Two weeks after getting my car, I started receiving warning messages about the engine temperature. The car would go into reduced power mode while I was in traffic. 2. During a road trip, I was climbing a steep grade with a speed limit of 75 mph when I received a warning about the engine coolant high temperature. I received this warning three times after stopping to let things cool down a bit. I had driven less than 300 miles. I use the car for work and keep the engine running for 10 hours or more in 115-degree heat with no problem. 3. On my way back from Tucson, where I was looking at houses, I stopped at a rest area. While getting back on the highway with a speed limit of 75 mph, I was getting up to speed when the Engine Coolant High temp warning came on. This time, the engine went into Reduced Power mode, and the check engine light came on. It is clear that this vehicle is unreliable and unsafe at speeds over 65 mph. It is now at the dealer, but there is a two-week wait before they even get around to looking at it.

Although my car has been great in the snow and has some nice features like heated seats and steering wheel, I have unfortunately experienced some issues with it. Despite being covered under warranty, I have needed a new transfer case, head gasket, rear axle seal, and catalytic converter. While I have enjoyed driving it, I have lost faith in the vehicle and have decided to get rid of it. In the future, I may consider a Honda, Toyota, or Subaru instead of a Ford.

I have owned two Ford vehicles, including the 2020 Ford Ecosport Titanium 2.0, and unfortunately, both have experienced issues. Despite my disappointment, I am confident in my decision to have it repaired and trust that the canister purge valve will be fixed. While I am aware that this issue has affected other Ford models, I am hopeful that the dealer will cover the repair under warranty. Although I have had concerns with the gas mileage, I have found that using premium fuel and fuel injector cleaner has improved it. It is worth noting that this is a subcompact SUV, so it may not be the best fit for larger families or those in need of ample trunk space. Overall, I remain optimistic about the future of my Ford vehicle and look forward to enjoying it for years to come.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I made the first payment on my 2020 EcoSport SE, but unfortunately it's currently in the Ford garage getting some work done. The rear shocks and struts have a known issue, so they ordered new ones. Even though it only has 1400 miles on it, I'm confident that it will be running smoothly again soon. In the meantime, Ford has kindly provided me with a rental car until mine is fixed. Just a friendly reminder to make your payments on time. Thank you!
