Overview
The XT4 (short for "Crossover Touring 4") is Cadillac's second crossover SUV, slotting below the mid-size Cadillac XT5, serving as the luxury equivalent to the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. It is the third model to use Cadillac's new alphanumeric naming scheme (after the CT6 and XT5), and the second of three vehicles Cadillac is introducing in the Crossover Touring (XT) series, the third being the mid-sized three-row XT6 that debuted in 2019 as a 2020 model. It utilizes GM's E2 platform, shared with the Chevrolet Malibu and Opel Insignia/Buick Regal.
Cadillac introduced a teaser for the XT4 during a telecast of the 90th Academy Awards on March 4, 2018, and it made its official debut at the 2018 New York Auto Show on March 27, 2018. Cadillac started taking customer pre-orders shortly following the New York debut.
The XT4 is produced at GM's Fairfax Assembly plant, and went on sale in the fall of 2018 as a 2019 model. The Chinese-market XT4 is manufactured in Shanghai by SAIC-GM.

- Summary: On four occasions now, the car slammed on the brakes as if the collision detection system was going off. Someone did almost hit me from behind as they needed to slam on their brakes due to my cars collision system going off when not supposed to. This has been well documented with Cadillac and the leased vehicle has been back in the shop 4 months out of the year we owned it. It is a major safety issue and am very concerned it will happen at a time that may cause a bad accident, injury or loss of life if something is not done. Cadillac has replaced many electrical parts and tells us it is fixed when in fact it is not and it happened again this week and will be going back to the shop for the 5th time next week.

- Summary: On June 13th 2024, and on July 30th 2024, while driving on highway my Cadillac XT4 suddenly jerked forward as if I had been struck from behind by another vehicle. The vehicle seemed to have lost all power and appeared to stall in the lanes of the highway. This created a very dangerous situation, causing vehicles behind me to swerve in order to avoid a collision. Be advised that the vehicle did not turn off, because I didn’t have to restart it, however it felt like it did. This situation could have caused myself, and passengers to be injured or killed, especially if a large truck was behind me and unable to stop. Luckily I was able to steer the vehicle onto the shoulder off the highway.

- Summary: Driving to a local car wash, I stopped at a traffic light. When I tried to accelerate the transmission warning and power reduction waring flashed on HUD. I could not drive or place the car in reverse, the car had lost all its mobility. I had to let the car coast downhill to pull the car to the side of a busy street. I was fortunate this did not happen on a congested highway, but regardless the inability to move a car off a busy street is an extreme safety hazard. The vehicle needed towed, and after 31 one days was returned to me, four days later while on the highway bolts were falling off the undercarriage of the vehicle. Upon further inspection the rear exhaust bracket had fallen off and was missing 3 bolts.

- Summary: During the two winter seasons I owned the Cadillac XT4 the Stabilitrack feature of the car malfunctioned every time it freezes outside and the check engine light came in. It was still under warranty and it was repaired last year at Foley Cadillac in Northbrook, IL and this year the light came on again warning of a malfunction of the same issue and I called to make an. Appointment to have it repaired again. I traded the vehicle off because of this issue. I felt it to be unsafe and it would soon be out of warranty. Jay, the salesperson at Ziegler Buick that sold me the new Buick Envision told me that Cadillac XT 4s all have that issue and made reference to the fact is it a defect of purpose to keep customers paying to have it fixed every year. While this is here say, I am more inclined to believe it. The approximate date below is for this last episode and is approx. I don't remember the exact date.

- Summary: The throttle and accelerator pedal is very HOT- highly sensitive, resulting in jerky lunging upon start off in 1st gear from a dead or 1 mph stop. The vehicle has been into the dealer 2 times for this issue with the same repair comments, vehicle meets all factory specs and all XT 4 react this way- well that's not safe. If that's the case, then this is a design defect which is unsafe as the accelerator pedal reacts to quickly with a non-smooth action and lunging which could cause a rear end collision. Other car evaluators have also indicated the XT6 has a jerky accelerator, just like what I am reporting. It may be the TPS -Throttle Position sensor in combination with the APS-Accelerator Position sensor. Sometimes it is so violent it throws occupants backward into the seats. Dealer says within spec. GM needs to solve this issue.

- Summary: The engine started to leak oil, coming down the passenger side of the motor. This was around at 22,000 miles. The dealer says that this is a leaking intake manifold gasket. It has taken them 3 separate repairs to fix this issue. I feel that my engine warranty from Cadillac should be extended, past the 5yr 60k powertrain warranty. We have had this vehicle now for 4 years, and we don't drive it alot. As of this writing 11/21/2023 the vehicle has around 29,000 miles on it. It appears that it is leaking again, so it will be going back into the dealer again.

Why would any major manufacturer make a vehicle less safe than pervious versions. GM needs to retrofit all models of the 2024 XT4 with Front Parking Assist to ensure a child or other object in front of the car does not get run over.

I noticed that you went from an XT5 to an XT4 because you wanted something a little smaller. I completely understand that! Even though the XT4 is smaller, the interior is still very spacious. I think you made a great choice by selecting the luxury model with the safety package. It sounds like it has everything you need at an attractive price. I do agree with you that it's surprising that a luxury brand like Cadillac wouldn't put turn signals in the mirrors on all vehicles. The only thing missing from your new car is a blind spot indicator, but overall it sounds like a fantastic choice!

The ride is excellent and the controls are intuitive. Despite having only ten days, I can confidently say that the seats are comfortable and the acceleration is just right. While there is some issue with water collecting on the front door wells after rain, I have already arranged for the dealer to take a look. It is worth noting that the car does not come with a spare tire, but this is a minor inconvenience. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

I absolutely adore this car! I custom ordered it and waited patiently for 6 months, even after I totaled my previous car and had to share a car with my husband for 5 months. But it was all worth it when I finally got my hands on this beauty. Even after 8 months of owning it, I still get excited every time I see it in the parking lot. The exterior is sleek and sporty, while the interior is spacious and practical. I have yet to find something that doesn't fit in the trunk, making it perfect for all my needs. The backseat is roomy enough for adults, and the overall design is simply flawless. I can confidently say that this car is gorgeous from top to bottom!

I had a really bad experience with my car. The transmission failed twice in a short period of time and it spent most of the time in the repair shop. However, I was able to get it bought back by Cadillac. Unfortunately, the dealer and Cadillac were not very helpful with the out of pocket expenses I incurred. Despite this, I was able to find a great dealership, Butler Ford in Ashland, and purchased a 2019 Ford Edge which has given me good service. Overall, it was a difficult car buying experience, but I'm happy with my current car and the service I've received.

Unfortunately, at around 1800 miles, the check engine light came on and a warning message appeared, stating that the transmission needed immediate servicing. The car wouldn't go into drive, reverse, or park, so I had to have it towed to the dealership. It took three days for them to get in touch with GM to determine the issue. They decided to replace the transmission, but they still couldn't tell me what caused the problem in the first place. It took two weeks to fix, but the same day I picked it up, I noticed a whining noise during acceleration. I took it back to the dealership, but they told me it was normal, even though it had never made that noise before. The next day, the noise got worse and the gear shift was jerky, so I had to take it back to the service center. They still have the car, and they are suggesting that the car needs to learn how I drive, which I find hard to believe. A brand new car should not need a new transmission in less than 3 months and less than 2000 miles. I contacted the dealership and Cadillac to request a buyback, but they told me to keep taking it in for repairs. Unfortunately, I had to file a Lemon claim in Texas to get any resolution. I would advise staying away from this SUV!

I purchased my 2019 XT4 brand new with only 53 miles on it. As I approach 20,000 miles, I have noticed that I am averaging 18 miles per gallon with mixed city and highway driving. Interestingly, the vehicle actually gets higher fuel economy in the city. However, when I drive 120 miles on the interstate each way to work, the fuel economy fails miserably. I have addressed this issue with Cadillac service approximately 10 different times and have even contacted Cadillac directly, but unfortunately, they do not seem to think there is a problem. Aside from the gas mileage, I have experienced multiple recalls and the camera system has been non-functional for about 25% of the miles I have driven it, with the cameras on back order. If you are considering this vehicle, I would suggest looking elsewhere. As of 1/23/2021, I have had to have the transmission, turbo, and faulty cracked spark plugs replaced. I have had this vehicle for less than 18 months and it has been sitting at the dealer/Cadillac service for 3.5 months of that time. Please take this as a warning!
