The sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series consists of the BMW F30 (sedan version), BMW F31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') and BMW F34 (fastback version, marketed as 'Gran Turismo') compact executive cars. The F30/F31/F34 generation was produced from October 2011 to 2019 and is often collectively referred to as the F30.

For the sixth generation, the coupé and convertible models were spun off to create the new BMW 4 Series nameplate. BMW also introduced a separate hatchback model under the 3 Series nameplate called the 3 Series Gran Turismo (F34).

The F30 is the first generation of 3 Series to be powered by a range of turbocharged engines exclusively and electric power steering (replacing the hydraulic power steering systems used previously). The F30 also marked the 3 Series' first use of a three-cylinder engine in its 2015 facelift. A new plug-in hybrid F30 model was also introduced in 2016. A long-wheelbase sedan version (model code F35) was sold in China.

The M3 model (designated F80) was introduced in 2014 and is powered by the S55 twin-turbocharged straight-six engine.

In March 2019, the BMW 3 Series (G20) was released as the successor to the F30. But the F34 fastback model continued to be available until early 2020. Later, it was replaced by BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé (G26) in June 2021.

Common 2010 Bmw 328i problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the BMW 328i 2010, several common problems have been identified:

  • Loss of Power While Driving: Another common problem reported by owners at around 115,000 miles is a loss of power while driving. The fuel pump is often the culprit in a 2010 BMW 3 Series, and replacing it can cost about $1,500.
  • Worn-Out Airbag Sensor: Some 3 Series models at around 100,000 miles have experienced issues with a worn-out airbag sensor. As the vehicle ages, this sensor may need replacement, which typically costs around $100.
  • Recalls: The 2010 BMW 3 Series has had 10 recalls, which is higher than other luxury cars from the same year. One significant recall addresses a loss of electrical power while driving, with BMW replacing the positive battery terminal. Other recalls are related to airbags, which are common across various makes and models from 2010.

These problems highlight some of the key issues that BMW 328i 2010 owners have faced. Addressing these concerns promptly and ensuring regular maintenance can help mitigate these issues and maintain the vehicle's performance and reliability.

Is the 2010 BMW 328i a good car?

The smooth and quick 328i is a delight to drive, with a refined powertrain, agile handling and a firm, yet supple and controlled ride. Fit and finish are excellent, but the cabin is snug. A stronger engine improves acceleration and still manages good fuel economy, but seat revisions reduced comfort.

What is the common issue with 328i?

The BMW 328i has many problems, with some of the most prominent ones being timing chain issues, fuel system failures, and electrical problems. Drivers have also complained about overheating A/C and heating systems as well as oil leaks in their BMW 328is, so be cautious if you plan on buying one.

What is the problem with the 2010 BMW 3 Series?

The most common problems with the 2010 BMW 3 Series include shaking while braking, loss of power while driving, and a worn-out airbag sensor. Overall, these problems are similar to other luxury cars from 2010, but 3-Series repair costs are a bit higher due to parts costs.

What year 328i is most reliable?

What Is the Best BMW 328i Model Year? The fourth-generation E46 and ninth-generation E90 model years are all well-regarded and worthy contenders, but most have preferred to go with any model between 2006 and 2011, as well as the later model years that come with more technology.

2013-02-07
  • Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: BMW is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 1-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured December 2007 through September 2011; and 2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sports wagons manufactured March 2007 through June 2011; and 2009-2011 Z4 vehicles manufactured March 2009 through June 2011. In February 2013, BMW recalled 504,545 vehicles. In July 2013, BMW informed the agency that it was adding 1-Series, 3-Series, and Z4 vehicles, representing an additional 12,094 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 516,791. The connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time. Over time, the high current flow and heat from electrical resistance may lead to a breakage of the connection, and a loss of electrical power to the vehicle.
  • Consequence: If there is a loss of electrical power to the vehicle, the vehicle may unexpectedly stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the positive battery cable connector and secure it with an improved method, free of charge. The recall began on March 13, 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].
