The Acura MDX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV with three-row seating produced by the Japanese automaker Honda under its luxury Acura division since 2000. The alphanumeric moniker stands for "Multi-Dimensional" luxury. It has ranked as the second-best selling mid-size luxury SUV after the Lexus RX in the U.S.

The MDX is the first luxury crossover SUV to have standard third-row seating, and shares its platform with the Honda Pilot. The Pilot was made available with an eight person seating configuration, while the MDX exclusively seats seven, with two seating positions in the third row. The MDX was introduced on October 5, 2000 as a 2001 model, replacing the slow-selling U.S.-only body-on-frame SLX, based on the Isuzu Trooper. In Japan, it was made to replace the Honda Horizon (also based on the Trooper) which was discontinued in 1999. In 2003, the vehicle went on sale in Japan and Australia as the Honda MDX; sales with Honda badges ended with the introduction of the second generation three years later.

First generation (YD1; 2001)

Derived from Honda's Global mid-size platform which underpins cars like the Honda Accord, Acura TL, TSX and Odyssey, it is powered by a J35A3 3.5 L SOHC 24 valve V6 engine with VTEC. Curb weight is 4,451 lb (2,019 kg), with a 106.3 in (2,700 mm) wheelbase and 8 in (200 mm) of ground clearance. The cargo floor can flip up to provide two additional seats. The vehicle is designed to hold 7 passengers, but the third row seats are small and only seat two, in contrast to the Odyssey and Pilot whose third row holds three passengers.

The vehicle features an automatic four wheel drive system (named VTM-4) that engages during off the line acceleration as well as when wheel slippage is detected. Additionally, the system offers a lock mode which can be activated and operated at low speeds and provides permanent 4WD and the equivalent of a locked rear differential; designed for climbing steep hills and getting out of stuck situations. To reduce drivetrain noise and increase fuel efficiency, the system runs as front wheel drive during normal cruising. The VTM-4 AWD system in the MDX has the same design as the VTM-4 systems found in the Honda Pilot and Honda Ridgeline. It is different than Honda's "RealTime AWD" system in the Honda CR-V and other models in that it can lock and it attempts to predict when traction will be lost and apply power to all four wheels before slippage occurs (by monitoring throttle inputs).

The navigation system and DVD entertainment system (also popular on other Honda/Acura models, such as the CR-V and Odyssey) options were mutually exclusive in the 2002 model. Both could be ordered at the same time since the 2003 model. The navigation option comes with a backup camera since the 2003 model. Since 2005, the navigation system featured information from Zagat about restaurants and other points of interest. The 2003 model was rated as Ultra Low Emission Vehicle. The United States Environmental Protection Agency estimates 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway and 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city.

The first two model years' 3.5-liter V6 engine produces 240 hp (179 kW) and 245 lb⋅ft (332 N⋅m) of torque from 3000 to 5000 rpm. For the 2003 model, the engine was improved to produce 20 hp (15 kW) more power than the earlier models, and the wheel designs were updated. The 2004 through 2006 engine received a modest increase in power and produces 265 hp (198 kW) and 253 lb⋅ft (343 N⋅m). The 2004 model is credited with a top speed of 137 mph, and a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds. The 2004 model features dual tail pipes instead of the single pipe in earlier models, side curtain airbags, new head lights and tail lights, and new wheels. Some chrome trimmings on the 2004 model use matte finish to distinguish from the polished shiny finish on earlier models. Little changed for the MDX during the 2006 model year with a few minor revisions to the vehicle's chrome and faux wood interior trim which could now be had with a dark grey wood (as opposed to reddish wood on earlier models), and also a black dash and steering wheel in tan interiors.

Common 2016 Acura Mdx problems

The Acura MDX, a stylish and sleek seven-seater, has been a popular choice for families. However, certain model years have been plagued with issues, particularly the 2016 model year. This article will focus on the common problems associated with the 2016 Acura MDX, based on complaints from owners.

The 2016 Acura MDX was the first year Acura switched to the 9-speed transmission, which has been a source of frustration for many owners. Reports of erratic shifting, acceleration issues, and the car automatically switching to neutral have been common.

The 9-speed transmission also requires more frequent and expensive fluid changes compared to the Honda 6A transmission found in earlier models. Additionally, the transmission's gear ratios may cause the vehicle to be in fifth gear by the time it crosses an intersection from a red light, leading to a less engaging driving experience.

Another issue that has affected 2016 MDX owners is the automatic idle stop feature. This feature, designed to save fuel, has been known to drain the battery and kill the starter, requiring frequent replacements.

Some owners have also reported transmission issues when going downhill, where the transmission disengages in a peculiar way, causing the vehicle to surge forward. This issue has been particularly noticeable in winding, hilly situations and has been attributed to a problem with the Honda transmission software.

Despite these issues, the 2016 Acura MDX has been praised for its overall reliability, fun-to-drive nature, relatively economical fuel consumption, and abundant utility and creature comforts. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and weigh them against the vehicle's positive attributes when considering a purchase.

How many miles can a 2016 Acura MDX last?

250,000 miles

If the Acura MDX has been properly maintained throughout its life, you can anticipate driving it up to 250,000 miles before experiencing any significant problems. These are respectable numbers for a luxury SUV, even though the Acura MDX may get less mileage than the TLX and RDX.

Are there any problems with the Acura MDX?

Acura MDX owners have reported problems with their air conditioning systems, including issues with refrigerant leaks, compressor failure, and inadequate cooling. Regular maintenance of the air conditioning system—such as refrigerant level checks and cleaning of the condenser—can help prevent these issues.

Is there any recalls on 2016 Acura MDX?

About a quarter of a million 2016–2019 models are under recall for a connecting rod defect that can cause the engine to stall or not start, including the Pilot, Odyssey, Ridgeline, and Acura TLX and MDX.

  • VIN: 5FRYD3H91GB
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: 2016 Acura MDX in White Diamond Pearl with peeling paint just above windshield. There is a Service Bulletin (19-029) but I am told that my VIN is not covered. Same problem and same color within the year models. Acura has indicated that VIN was not manufactured where the Service Bulletin covers. Clearly, there is a defect with the paint regardless of where the vehicle was built. There is no safety risk from the defect and it is available at any time for inspection. Was unaware of the Service Bulletin until researching how to stop the problem from progressing since the paint is lifting and peeling off.

EVERYTHING I HAVE RESEARCHED SHOWS MOST VINS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT (LIKE MINE) AND MANY PEOPLE ARE PISSED OFF> JUST GOOGLE "2016 WHITE ACURA MDX WITH PAINT PEELING" AND YOU WILL SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. LOCAL ACURA DEALERSHIP SAYS "YOUR VIN IS NOT ELIGIBLE" AS DOES ACURA HQ. I AM SEEKING A FULL RECALL ON ALL VEHICLES NOTED IN SERVICE BULLETIN 19-029 REGARDLESS OF VIN. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. MANY PEOPLE WANT TO START A CLASS ACTION SUIT BUT NO ONE KNOWS HOW NOR DOES ANYONE WANT TO SPEND LEGAL FEES.

  • VIN: 5FRYD4H40GB
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: Our engine is exhibiting symptoms currently related to an open recall by Acura for Connecting Rod Bearings. Our 2016 MDX is one of the affected model years but as of now our VIN is not included in the recall. I don't believe this is coincidence. I believe the mechanical issue is more widespread than Acura wants to reveal and is subsequently limiting the VIV numbers it includes. I am trying to be proactive in this regard prior to an incident taking place.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-05
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H40GB
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Paint Peeling on my 2016 Acura MDX with color code NH 603P. This is a frequent problem-- so frequent that Acura issued a service bulletin 19-029. I am hoping for a full recall. the problem is Acura claims this is based on VIN. If you google "problems with 2016 Acura MDX with paint peeling" you will find a SLEW of owners with this same problem but the VIN is not eligible for reimbursement (mine was not eligible either based on my VIN). This is a problem with the color code NOT the VIN. Can NHTSA request a full recall to Acura for all vehicles identified in Service Bulletin 19-029 regardless of the VIN??? Clearly there is a problem with the year, make, model, color code regardless of the VIN>

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-23
  • VIN: 5FRYD3H45GB
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: We have a 2016 Acura MDX and it has automatically shifted to Neutral 3 times (twice while driving on the freeway and 1x yesterday while driving on the street at normal speeds) in the last 2 months. On the MDX dashboard, it will display "Emissions System Problem" and then display "Stop Driving When Safe. Transmission Problem. See Manual." However, the car will automatically shift to Neutral within seconds. My children's lives (7 y/o and 5 y/o) were placed in danger as a result of this system failure. I have contacted the Acura Honda Recall Specialists and Client Relations Representatives. The car is being diagnosed at Cerritos Acura dealership at the present time. A case number has been filed since our VIN shows no recall, despite it having recalls for other 2016 Acura MDXs.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-10-08
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H48GB
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: White paint is peeling on roof and exposing bare metal. Risk of rust, corrosion and structural degradation. Background: Acura/Honda knows of an issue with their White Pearl paint from 2016 and has issued a TSB to address the paint on certain VIN numbers. However, many owners are finding that even though they have a 2016 White Acura MDX, the VIN is not covered by the TSB. The TSB extends the warranty to 8 years for any peeling of the white paint. Acura/Honda states that only the VINs that are in range of the TSB are affected, however many owners are experiencing the peeling/chipping of the paint even thought their VIN is not in range. A popular online forum, [XXX] has multiple discussions on VINs not in range but still experiencing the peeling/chipping issue. I have attached links to just a few of the discussions I found. ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-03
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H48GB
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: After traveling about on a 4 hour drive, my daughter who was driving the vehicle slowed down to make a turn. That's when she heard a loud clanking noise coming from the engine. She immediately pulled over and turned off the engine/vehicle. I went to meet her, and replicated the same problem when I turned the ignition switch to to on. It sounded as if there was some large piece of metal loose inside the engine -- it did not have consistency and was highly variable with regards to the sound it was making. The "Check Engine" light was on. Fortunately this did not occurr going at high/freeway speeds, yet the safety was compromised when my daughter was fortunate enough to leverage the momentum to get to the side of the road. Additionally, she was not in a spot where there was a shoulder/it was under an overpass, so she had to be careful and turned on her emergency lights. We had the vehicle towed to the nearby Honda Dealer. I am attaching their report and findings. They recommended engine be replaced; which we agreed to have done. Additionally, we continue to have problems due to the mounting and shacking which we believe comes from the installment of the new engine. We are submitting that report as well. At present, my daughter is not driving the vehicle and is relying on rides or borrowing other people's vehicles.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-14
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H95GB
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: [XXX] 7 pm. As I was on the highway, warning lights came on the dashboard, “failing transmission, emission failure, and side mirrors failure.” I soon lost a lot of power. I purchased this 2016 Acura MDX in 2019 at Acura of Concord as a Pre-owned Certified with 20k miles. At the time of the transmission failure I had put an additional 17k miles. Total cost for a new transmission was nearly $8000. This does not seem fair to have to replace a transmission with so little miles. It seems as though this vehicle is a lemon. Approximately 3 weeks later, as I coming up the driveway, I noticed a huge chip of paint missing in front of the sunroof area. Now this appears Exactly as the recall or extended warranty demonstrates for 2014-2016 MDX White Diamond Pearl NH-603P. Honda claims this “VIN Does not qualify” for this extended warranty. Even the service manager at Acura of Concord exclaimed, ”How they explain to me that this vehicle does not qualify when it is the same year model, same paint, and that the paint chipped off Exactly the same way as described in the extended warranty recall.” In other words, Honda is forcing me to reach out to you because this VIN is not on the list and they do not wish to acknowledge that they are at fault. I do not feel that it right that I paid $8000 for a new transmission, and now I will have to pay $5303.70 to repair the paint on the roof. Please help me in this matter. STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-24
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H47GB
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: The paint on the roof of my 2016 Acura MDX is peeling, as described in Acura Service Bulletin 19-029 in August 28, 2019. The paint code NH-603P matched the service bulletin but Acura is denying me of any warranty because of VIN. This is a known problem for 2014 - 2016 Honda and Acura White Diamond or Pearl White paint NH-603P many people have the same issues based from a quick search on Google but Honda and Acura are denying many people because they ARE NOT expanding the VIN and or only restricting and addressing certain locations. There are no dent or scratches on my roof, no sign of weather damage. They used the same paint and same problem as service bulletin so obviously the problem was not addressed to all 2014 - 2016 MDX. Manufacture should be held responsible and expand their service to other customers with the same paint code as well.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-17
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H4XGB
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: While driving our well-maintained 2016 Acura MDX on a 30-minute drive on [XXX] , I heard a pop, and then the engine lost power. I couldn't get the RPMs over 2500. A fluttering noise evolved into knocking and the vehicle became increasingly sluggish and heavy. The check engine light started blinking, but the vehicle's temperature gauge showed no changes. There wasn't any smoke or unusual smells. I felt terrified trying to get safely onto the side of the road with cars driving at full speed. I had the car dropped off at our local service station and the owner determined that the engine cylinder was loose and lost compression with a knock. He says that the engine light did not give a code. The owner determined that we need to replace the engine. A rebuilt engine will cost us $8,000. When I called Acura, the service person I spoke with seemed surprised that our 8-year-old car with only 77,000 miles needed a new engine. Since Acura has so many cars to deal with on the latest recall, he said it would be weeks before anyone can look at it. I researched and found that our VPN was NOT included in the recent recall of 2016-2020 model year MDX vehicles all with the same problems. How can that be???? STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-05-04
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H43GB
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: The vehicle was purchased at Mullers Woodfield Acura, 1099 W. Higgins Rd., Hoffman Estates, IL 60169, Tel. 847-519-9550 on [XXX]. I came home with the vehicle when it was dark. In the morning, I inspected the car and noticed paint issues where the bumper meets the painted metal and some areas around the sunroof and side edges of the roof. The dealer would not exchange for different vehicles; they offered to paint the areas, which they did through their insurance. Sometime later, around 2019, I noticed a small patch of paint missing on the roof. I took the vehicle to the dealer, where I found a Service Bulletin regarding this issue. The service bulletin dated 08/29/2019 was for the same problem I was experiencing. My dealer advised me that my VIN does not match the service bulletin. They quoted me $2,400 to repaint the car after they filed with Acura Care, which denied accountability. I went back and forth between the dealer and Honda Care but was nowhere. Nobody is taking responsibility for this manufacturer defect. I contacted them again today and was denied. I could not file a complaint with the person I spoke with, who stated she was the manager. This vehicle had paint issues from the start, and I reported it to the dealer and Honda Care and gave the Service Bulletin the vehicle year, paint color, and the claim the dealer filed with Honda Care. Pictures were taken, and the claim was denied because my VIN number is not listed with the Service Bulletin that came out. I am filing a complaint for a manufacturer defect that occurred with my vehicle from day 1, and neither the Dealer nor Honda Care wants to take responsibility. I am asking for a review of how the manufacturer can get away with this without any responsibility, especially since a service bulletin was issued. Please note that I am now divorced, and the vehicle is in my maiden name, [XXX] . My address is [XXX] . [XXX] . ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-05
  • VIN: 5FRYD4H63GB
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: I am writing to bring to your immediate attention a critical safety issue with my 2016 Acura MDX, and the subsequent exclusion of my vehicle from a known recall that directly addresses the problems we are experiencing. Without any prior warning, we began hearing a fluttering sound coming from the engine whenever we accelerated. This noise progressively worsened and evolved into a pronounced knocking noise.Concurrently, the vehicle became increasingly sluggish and heavy, resulting in significant difficulty when accelerating. Despite these alarming symptoms, the vehicle's temperature gauge showed no changes, there was no smoke or unusual smells, and the check engine light did not activate. Gravely concerned for our safety, we promptly took the vehicle to our local mechanic for a thorough inspection. The diagnosis revealed significant engine damage, specifically to the connecting rod bearings and the crankshaft. Given the severity of the issue, we then brought the vehicle to the closest Acura dealership, Pohanka Acura. The service advisor informed us of a recall affecting the engine and rod bearings in the 2016 Acura MDX model. They also confirmed that our vehicle's engine was indeed damaged due to the same rod bearings and crankshaft issue described in the recall. However, despite this clear evidence, we were informed that our vehicle's VIN was excluded from the recall repair. The technician who performed the diagnostic on our vehicle recommended a new short engine block, which is was concerning especially since it mirrors the known recall issue. I am requesting that the NHTSA urgently investigate this matter. I hope the NHTSA treats this issue with the utmost urgency and seriousness it warrants. The safety of Acura MDX owners is at stake, and immediate action is essential to prevent further incidents and ensure our safety. Thank you for your prompt attention to this critical matter. I await your swift response and resolution. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Negative 2016 Acura Mdx car reviews

  1. Alf Langworth 2025-01-04

As an Acura owner, it's important to know that early 2016 models built in 2015 may require a software update to the transmission, technical service bulletin 15-054, which can improve the shifting dynamic of the car and resolve most of the transmission jerkiness issues. Unfortunately, my dealership didn't apply the update, but next time my car is in for service, I plan to request that they fix it. I've experienced rough shifting, surges while braking and going downhill, and poor overall transmission performance, and I believe that a recall to update the software on the transmission would be beneficial. Acura should listen to their customers and prioritize their satisfaction. While there are some issues with the transmission and infotainment system, the interior is spacious and comfortable, and the handling is great. The ride is smooth when the transmission isn't jerking, and the overall infotainment system, including navigation, could be improved. I hope that Acura will work to address these issues and produce a high-quality product that meets the needs of their customers. By doing so, they can improve their customer satisfaction and reputation.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some feedback on my experience with the transmission in my MDX. I've noticed that when going down a hill and taking my foot off the gas, the car tends to surge instead of slowing down, which can be a bit frustrating. Additionally, I've had some trouble with downshifting using the paddles. Finally, I've had some issues with the voice commands - for example, when I ask the system to find the nearest ATM, it sometimes misunderstands and adjusts the air conditioner instead. As a long-time MDX owner, I wanted to share my thoughts in the hopes that they might be helpful for future improvements. Thanks for your time!

  3. Sage Lebsack 2024-11-26

The 2016 model with only 8200 miles has a transmission problem that requires replacement, despite minor issues from the beginning. The dealer has been courteous throughout the process.

  4. Alejandrin Heaney 2024-11-20

This car is mostly okay for the price, but unfortunately the transmission has an odd shift that makes it uncomfortable for both the driver and passengers. We have had to take it to the shop twice for this issue and have been told that it is what it is, which is frustrating given the amount we paid for it. Additionally, we have not had the best experience with the Acura service department, which has made us even more frustrated with the car. While I loved my first Acura many years ago, I am not sure if I will be purchasing or leasing another one anytime soon.

The 9 speed transmission is unacceptable. I have never experienced such a poor transmission. It may be worth exploring the Lemon Law in our state.

Positive 2016 Acura Mdx car reviews

  1. Leopold O'Kon 2025-01-07

Before purchasing my CPO MDX with 12,500 miles on it, I read all the reviews about the 9-speed transmission and was aware of its drawbacks and limitations. As someone who has driven manual transmission vehicles for most of my life, I was hesitant about switching to an SUV with an automatic transmission. However, I find the transmission of this MDX to be pretty good, and much better than I anticipated. It shifts quickly and smoothly, making the car very efficient. Occasionally, it can be caught flat-footed or give a rough shift, but this is common with most automatic transmissions. I have learned how to compensate for this and have found that accelerating to pass is easy by flooring it and backing off if needed. The car drops gears quickly and putting the IDS into sport mode helps too. My car came with the software update and I think its logic is pretty good. Others have driven my car and nobody has complained about the transmission. As for the rest of the car, it is well thought out. I am impressed with the 21-22mpg I get around suburban town and the 28mpg on a trip average on the open highway, which is impressive for a powerful AWD SUV. The cargo space is generous and the seating is comfortable, especially on long hauls. The ELS stereo is phenomenal, provided you adjust the settings (I dialed up the bass and subwoofer). This car is also whisper quiet on the open road - everyone that is in my car notices this. For a biggish SUV, it handles well and accelerates quickly. Visibility from the driver's seat is excellent and the headlights are top-notch. Although I was initially concerned about the infotainment system, it did not stop me from buying the car.In reality, you get used to it and it's not as bad as I expected. If you have an iPhone, Siri Eyes Free allows you to text and call people easily. I simply set the temperature to what I want and put the climate control on AUTO. The fan, vent direction, and seats adjust accordingly. The NAVI works well. Although I was disappointed that entry was disabled while the vehicle is moving, I prefer to enter it by voice, which now uses a natural address. My complaints with this car are minimal. I don't like the funky wide-angle driver-side mirror, and I don't think I will ever get used to it. The adaptive cruise control is rough, and I don't love it. Most of the time, I just disable it in situations where it's claimed to be useful. Lastly, I think the brakes are a little underwhelming. I had them resurfaced under warranty shortly after delivery, and they are okay, but I still sometimes think I feel pulsing. Overall, I think it is a very well-rounded car. I am very happy with it and would definitely buy another one.

I'm glad to hear that you've had experience with several car brands, including BMW, Mercedes, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. When looking for a new car, you decided to check out Acura due to its reputation for quality and value. I'm happy to hear that you were impressed with the comfort, quality, and performance of the Acura, especially since it was more affordable than comparable BMW or Porsche models. While it may not be as sporty as some of the BMWs you've owned, it still drives and corners smartly. It's great to hear that it's also the quietest vehicle you've owned. After having to visit the Jeep dealership many times, it's nice to know that you're looking forward to years of routine service with your Acura. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

  3. Grayce Murphy 2024-06-04

After driving this vehicle for 12k miles, I believe it is a great compromise. While it may not be as sporty as a BMW X5, as big as a Chevy Tahoe, or as pretty as an Audi Q5, it is competitively priced (especially when fully loaded), has good fuel efficiency (I averaged almost 21 mpg with mostly city driving and about 28 mpg on the highway), a very large cargo area (if you fold down the 3rd row), a quiet and comfortable ride, impressive handling on snow, and comes with almost all the safety features you can imagine. However, there are a few major gripes to consider: 1) Be cautious of the middle seat's seatbelt, as it can be a safety hazard due to a major design flaw. The seatbelt automatically retracts to the roof where it is anchored, and my mom was hit hard on her face (by the seat belt buckle) as the middle passenger released his seatbelt. 2) On a two-lane windy road, the auto collision sensor can mistake an oncoming vehicle (in the other lane) as an obstacle and suddenly hit the brake for you (which can be very scary for anyone in the vehicle). 3) The acceleration is unimpressive for a 3.5L VTECH engine. 4) The brake performance is so-so. 5) It lacks a

I spent 9 months researching the 2016 MDX before making my purchase, and I'm so glad I did! This is actually my third Acura MDX, having owned two previous models since the introduction of the MDX in 2001. I'm absolutely amazed at the transformation of this vehicle. It feels like I have the best of both worlds, combining the features of the MDX and RL. The slightly lowered height from the road is just perfect! While some reviews have mentioned issues with the entertainment system, I haven't had any problems with it. With so many great features, I've been taking my time to explore each one, and it's been an enjoyable process. I especially love the new touch gear shifting and the sportier drive, which makes it feel like I'm not even driving an SUV. The gas mileage increase is also a sweet bonus, which is one of the reasons I waited so long to buy the 2016 model. The seat air ventilation system is also a great feature that keeps me cool and comfortable during hot summer months. And the warning system and lane keeping assist system are simply amazing! I feel so much safer on the road, protected from blind spots and drifting out of my lane. Overall, this is the best vehicle I have ever owned, and I'm so happy with my purchase!

  5. Elmore Koch 2024-03-19

I have been an Acura owner since 1995 and have driven the Acura MDX model since its arrival in 2001. This being my 4th MDX, I must say that the 2016 model has been the best driving experience I have ever had. I was a little nervous about the move to a crossover design, but I am happy with the feel of the RL I've missed. The slight one inch lowering to the ground was a concern, but it still keeps me high enough on the road to see ahead in traffic. The new safety innovations are incredible and give me a new sense of road safety beyond what I've ever experienced. The gas mileage is through the roof beyond what I expected, which was my main motivation for buying in May of 2016. I don't get all the transmission complaints, but I must say, I don't drive the car fast, I drive it economically for safety and good gas mileage. For this reason, the car is a dream. If you want a sports car, then go buy one. I love having the option of the engine stopping if you press the brake a tad harder at a stop. At first, this was strange, but now it's a natural part of driving the car. All the technology took a small learning curve, but once you learn, it's part of you. My Acura dealership has been completely responsive with any questions I have. The MDX handles beautifully with new smart technology helping to keep me in my lane when driving the freeway. I love the distance setting of three choices when using cruise. I'm not trying to outdrive anyone, just selecting my space on the freeway to drive most economically. Hitting 28 miles to the gallon on a long trip is the best MPG I've ever received from any Acura. The sound system and tech package deliver all I need and then some. This new 2016 MDX delivers the most enjoyable driving experience I've ever had!
