2010 Volvo C30 problems
The Volvo C30 is a three-door, front-engine, front-wheel-drive premium compact hatchback, manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 2006 to 2013, in a single generation. Powered by inline-four and straight-five engines, the C30 is a variant of the Volvo S40/V50/C70 range, sharing the same Ford C1/Volvo P1 platform. Volvo marketed the C30 as a premium hatchback / sports coupe.
The C30's rear styling and frameless glass rear hatch recall Volvo's earlier P1800 ES and Volvo 480.
Pre-production concepts
Volvo SCC (2001)
The Volvo SCC (Safety Concept Car) is a concept vehicle incorporating the rear hatch design from the Volvo P1800ES and the glass hatch from Volvo 480ES. Its safety features included forward collision warning, blind spot monitor and alert, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, flashing brake lights during hard braking, and headlights that follow the curvature of the road as the car turns. Many of these features would become commonplace years later. The SCC also featured a head-up display and communication with the car via mobile phone.
The SCC was first unveiled at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show, then in autumn 2001 at the Seville International Airport in southern Spain. Research to adapt its safety features for production began in 2002, and it led to development of the C30 which began in 2003.

Common 2010 Volvo C30 problems
The Volvo C30, a compact premium hatchback produced between 2006 and 2013, is generally considered to be reliable by its owners. However, there are several common problems and issues that have been reported by C30 owners.
One of the most common problems reported by C30 owners is rattling trim, which can be heard during a test drive. This issue is particularly prevalent in older models. Another problem that has been reported is a failure of the ventilation system, including the air conditioning. This issue can affect the overall comfort of the vehicle, particularly during hot weather.
Another common problem reported by C30 owners is a failure of the keyless entry system, which may stop working unexpectedly.
There have also been reports of problems with the gearbox on the C30. In some cases, the gear shift mechanism may become jammed, preventing the driver from changing gears.
In addition to these issues, there have also been reports of faults with the clutch on the C30. This problem relates to the component connecting the clutch master cylinder and the clutch pedal, which may be prone to breakage on some models of the C30.
Another problem reported with the C30 is an issue with the brakes. Due to a fault, the brake assistance may not work effectively in cold start conditions, requiring additional pressure to be applied to the brake pedal in order for them to function as they should.
Finally, there have also been reports of problems with the engine on the C30. In some cases, certain models of the C30 have been known to overheat, caused by the hose connection between the coolant expansion tank and the bleed hose coming loose.
Despite these issues, the Volvo C30 is still considered to be a reliable vehicle overall, with a reputation for safety and quality. However, it is always worth being aware of the potential issues that may arise with any vehicle, and taking steps to address them as soon as possible to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the vehicle.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-27
- VIN: YV1672MKXA2
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: While on the freeway my sunroof shattered and spilled a bunch of glass fragments all over me, I believe a rock or some kind of other object, never found out what hit it or if it was hit, from the freeway hit it, so I don't know if it counts as a vehicle safety problem but I wanted to make a report just in case it counts as one. My safety was put at risk by having glass falling on top off me while going around 60mph on the freeway, the sudden noise of the glass breaking followed by the glass falling on me caused me to swerve and it left me shaken and covered in glass. I ended up pulling over on the shoulder to relax myself and get all the glass off of me and my seat, no one was hurt or injured. There was no problem confirmed other than the sunroof being broken. The component was not inspected. There were no other warnings or symptoms of the problem prior to it breaking.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-13
- VIN: YV1672MK5A2
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: The windshield is loose at the top and can leak. The windshield may move under normal driving conditions.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-11-28
- Crash: 1
- VIN: YV1672MK9A2
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I HAVE A 2010 VOLVO C30. IN LATE NOVEMBER 2017 I WAS IN A MINOR ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. SOMETHING CAME OFF A BIG RIG IN FRONT OF ME AND HIT THE WINDSHIELD AS WELL AS ME RUNNING OVER SOMETHING. I ASSUME THE TRUCK BLEW A TIRE, AS THE TRUCK STARTED SPARKING UNDERNEATH. THE NOISE WAS SO LOUD, I THOUGHT THE WINDSHIELD HAD BROKEN. WHEN I PULLED OVER, I DIDN'T SEE ANY REAL DAMAGE BUT A SMALL PIECE OF MOLDING WAS LOOSE NEAR MY FRONT TIRE. OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS I WOULD HEAR A LOUD JARRING NOISE WHENEVER I HIT A BUMP A CERTAIN WAY. ALSO, WHEN THE PASSENGER DOOR WAS SLAMMED SHUT. IT SOUNDED LIKE MY CAR WAS FALLING APART. IT CONTINUED TO GET MORE FREQUENT, BUT I COULDN'T TELL WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM UNTIL WE STARTED GETTING FREEZING TEMPERATURES IN THE MORNING AND I COULD ACTUALLY SEE THE WINDSHIELD RATTLE OVER EVERY BUMP. WHEN I PLACED MY HAND ON THE UPPER DRIVER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD, I COULD ACTUALLY PUSH IT FAR ENOUGH TO CREATE A GAP BETWEEN IT AND THE CAR. TODAY I HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED. THE WINDSHIELD TECH SHOWED ME THAT THERE WAS NO PRIMER ON THE GLASS ACROSS THE TOP AND IN LARGE AREAS DOWN BOTH SIDES OF THE GLASS. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALLED WINDSHIELD. ALTHOUGH I HAD NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH LEAKAGE, IT WAS PROBABLY THAT WAY FOR A LONG TIME AND THE ACCIDENT JARRED IT LOOSE. I SHUTTER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE ACCIDENT HAD BEEN MORE MAJOR. IF THE AIRBAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, I IMAGINE THEY WOULD HAVE PUSHED THE GLASS RIGHT OUT. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ONLINE, I SEE MANY REPORTS OF THIS WINDSHIELD SEAL FAILURE ACROSS SEVERAL YEARS AND MODELS OF VOLVOS. I AM SHOCKED VOLVO HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-03-05
- VIN: YV1672MK8A2
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: MY WINDSHIELD WAS LIFTING AS I DROVE HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR ON A WINDY DAY, AS WELL AS LEAKED WATER DURING HEAVY RAIN. TOOK IT TO AN AUTO GLASS SHOP (LIKE MY VOLVO DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED DUE TO A DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF OVER $100.00 FOR VOLVO SERVICE TO TOUCH THE CAR), WHERE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A HUGE PROBLEM AND THAT IT SEEMED TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE MANUFACTURING OF THE CAR. THEY SAID THERE IS NO WAY A PERSON COULD HAVE CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO BE COMPLETELY LOOSE ENOUGH TO POP OUT LIKE MINE IS, AND THAT IT LOOKS LIKE THE MANUFACTURER DIDN'T BOND THE WINDSHIELD PROPERLY TO THE CAR.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-10-07
- Crash: 1
- VIN: YV1672MK5A2
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: MY DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE MISHAP WHERE SHE JUMPED A CURB AT APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 MPH, BLEW OUT THREE TIRES, AND DAMAGED THE RIGHT PASSENGER FRONT BUMPER AS WELL AS THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT QUARTER PANELS. THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE IS BENT INWARD AND THE LEFT FRONT IS BENT OUTWARD. THROUGH ALL OF THIS, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. I HAD TO GUESSTIMATE THE MILEAGE BELOW AT 53K AS I DON'T HAVE IT WITH ME WHERE I AM FILING THIS REPORT.
WHEELS,TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-05-14
- VIN: YV1672MKXA2
- Components: WHEELS,TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLVO C30. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON WET PAVEMENT, THE REAR TIRES LOST TRACTION WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAMBER ANGLE WAS TOO POSITIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
