Toyota Fj cruiser problems

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a retro-styled mid-size SUV produced by Toyota between 2006 and 2022. Introduced as a concept car at the January 2003 North American International Auto Show, the FJ Cruiser was approved for production after positive consumer response and debuted at the January 2005 North American International Auto Show in final production form.
The FJ Cruiser was built by Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors in Hamura, Japan, between 2006 and 2022. The vehicle shares many structural underpinnings with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.: 96 The FJ Cruiser entered the Japanese market on 4 December 2010, announced on 25 November in that year.
On 5 November 2013, Toyota USA announced the 2014 model year Trail Teams edition would be called the "Ultimate Edition" and that the 2014 model year would be the last for the FJ Cruiser in that market. It continued to be made for sale in other markets such as Australia until its export to that market was discontinued in August 2016. As of April 2022, it was still sold in markets such as Chile, the Middle East, the Philippines and Southern African Customs Union countries.
On 1 October 2022, Toyota announced that the FJ Cruiser would be discontinued in the Middle East by December 2022, along with a final edition model.

Common Toyota Fj cruiser problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Toyota FJ Cruiser, several common problems have been reported:
- Faulty Drivetrain Components:
- Specific to FJ Cruisers with automatic gearboxes, drivers have reported problems like bad CV joints, rattling noises from bad bearings, and driveshaft issues. These issues can result in stability problems, noises, and difficulty in maintaining control over the vehicle, affecting the overall driving experience.
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Faults:
- While not as severe as transmission or drivetrain problems, TPMS faults can compromise safety by failing to warn about insufficient tire pressure. Addressing TPMS malfunctions is crucial to ensure safe driving and receive timely low-pressure warnings when necessary.
- Low-Pressure Fuel Pump Issues:
- The FJ Cruiser's low-pressure fuel pump, responsible for delivering fuel to the combustion chambers, is known to stall, leading to engine stalling while driving. This poses a significant safety risk, especially at higher speeds. Prioritizing a thorough check of the fuel pump before purchasing a used FJ Cruiser is essential to avoid potential engine stalling issues.

It happened a lot of years maybe 5-7 years before. -I’m from Canada.

I purchased the FJ in late October and took it on a road trip covering a total of 4026 miles. Throughout the trip, I drove at speeds of up to 105 mph and used both high and regular octane fuel. The FJ performed flawlessly and I was able to achieve an average of 20 mpg without ever needing to use the 4WD. Our journey took us to some amazing places such as the Grand Canyon, Sequoia NP and Yosemite. On the return trip, we drove down Hwy 1, passing through Monterey, Big Sur and across Hwy 46. The FJ was a joy to drive and we had no incidents. One of the most memorable moments was on I40, where two black H2 Hummers were coming up in the passing lane. I was behind a truck and moved over behind the first H2, the second H2 moved up behind me. It looked like two black H2s were escorting my Voodoo Blue. They wanted to lose me thus the 105 MPH and could not.

This SUV is a great value for the money. I chose it for the Toyota quality and reliability, and it has not disappointed. I have the manual with full-time four-wheel drive, and I consistently get 21-23 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city. It's a solid and fun vehicle to drive, and it really grows on you. I added two blind spot mirrors, which have been a big help. However, I don't think all the talk about the poor rear view is accurate. If you know how to drive, it's not a problem. I enjoy fishing in Canada, and this SUV has gotten me out of some tough spots that my old domestic 4x4 couldn't handle. The VSC and traction control are great features, and I rarely ever have to lock everything in.

I am absolutely thrilled to talk about this vehicle's ownership. It has been a true champion for my wife and me in so many ways. Firstly, we were enamoured with the design and its modern take on the original FJ. Secondly, the neoprene flooring and textile seating made the interior material practical. The layout was fantastic, and while the suicide doors made it a little difficult for adults to access, it was a small price to pay. The engine is robust and incredibly durable. The upgraded stereo was worth the extra option, and the automatic and steering gear are top-notch. The manual four-wheel drive is a little cumbersome for around town, but let's not forget that this is a genuine off-road machine, so in that context, it is a winner. The rear parking sensors were a must, and while the backup camera was a nice feature, the size of the screen in the rearview mirror was a little impractical. However, we found the mirrors to be appropriately sized to assist in the practicality of all maneuvers.

I've been driving my FJ for ten months now and I still love it. I've owned cars for most of my driving years, but since I moved to the mountains of WV, I wanted an SUV and thought a 4x4 would be more suitable for my needs. This vehicle does just that and more. The seats are comfortable and the turning radius is great. Inside the cabin, it's quiet while driving and gives me a feeling that I'm riding in a safe vehicle. I purchased the solid white color and I couldn't be happier with my decision on this SUV!

PRO's: This vehicle still runs like a champ at ~200k and is great for small families as an everyday driver. It is a beast and perfect for camping, hunting, and trail riding. I even used it to drag thousand-plus pound tree trunks around when I cleared some woods for a home site. It is awesome in the deep sand with the right tires and inflation level. If you want something better than a Jeep, then this is the vehicle for you. However, if you are looking for a luxury status symbol truck, then you should buy something else. This one is for sport and light work. It is not good for 4 adults unless it is a relatively short trip. I have 295/70/17 Nitto Grapplers and a spacer 2.4Experiencing an exhaust gasket failure at around 140k miles was a bit of a setback, but I was able to replace the whole thing with a Borla exhaust for a reasonable price. Now it runs and sounds great! I plan on keeping this vehicle for a long time and may even pass it down to my sons. I recently replaced the O2 sensors at around 200k miles, which was an easy and affordable fix. I've owned this vehicle since 2010 and I hope to continue enjoying it for many more years to come (as of 1/25/24).

I have been driving mine for the last 2 years and it has been a lot of fun. However, it is important to note that there are some practical considerations to keep in mind. Many people agree that there are some pretty bad blind spots, and the exterior paint chips easily. Additionally, the front windshield may crack and require a $309 replacement (although it's worth noting that some people have paid up to $1200 for this). The clamshell doors can be a bit tricky to get in and out of, and the front seat back doesn't fold forward enough to help with rear entry. The ride can be a bit noisy, and when the visor is down, it can be difficult to see. I hope this information is helpful to you as you consider whether or not to buy. Despite these considerations, it's worth noting that this is still the most original SUV around.

I chose the FJ because it stood out from other SUVs on the market. While there are a few drawbacks, such as difficulty accessing the rear doors when parked too close to another car, and the need to pump gas slowly at fast pumps, there are also many positives. The unique design attracts attention, and the white roof helps keep the interior cool in hot Florida weather. The sound system is great, and the front seats are comfortable. The controls are easy to read and operate. Although the rear portholes are a bit small, the FJ is a great choice overall.

Great looking car inside and out! It rides like a sedan, but unfortunately, I've had some issues with it. Just 2 weeks after purchase, the transfer case had to be replaced. And for the past 4 months, the transmission has been slipping in gears 1 through 3, and the engine has stalled while driving at less than 5 mph (note that it's an automatic transmission). It's been in the shop 3 times for the stalling and transmission issues, but Toyota claims they can't find the problem. Looks like I may have to consult the lemon law.

This vehicle is designed specifically for off-road use. It may not be suitable for city driving or commuting to work. Parking in the city can be challenging due to blind spots, and the backseat is not adjustable and has limited space. In the event of an accident, backseat passengers may have difficulty exiting the vehicle. Additionally, if the front passengers are unable to open the doors, it may be difficult to exit the vehicle. Please keep these factors in mind when considering this vehicle for your needs.

We recently purchased our fourth and unfortunately final Toyota, a 2007 FJ Cruiser, for our family. However, we encountered an issue with the transmission after only 8000 miles. Despite the fact that the FJ Cruiser is marketed as an off-road vehicle, Toyota has refused to honor the warranty due to moisture getting into the transmission case. We used the FJ Cruiser in ways that were less demanding and safer than how the vehicle is marketed, but Toyota's reason for not honoring the warranty is because the vehicle was used off-road. It's disappointing, but we remain hopeful that Toyota will reconsider their decision.
