Toyota Fj cruiser problems

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a retro-styled mid-size SUV produced by Toyota between 2006 and 2022. Introduced as a concept car at the January 2003 North American International Auto Show, the FJ Cruiser was approved for production after positive consumer response and debuted at the January 2005 North American International Auto Show in final production form.
The FJ Cruiser was built by Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors in Hamura, Japan, between 2006 and 2022. The vehicle shares many structural underpinnings with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.: 96 The FJ Cruiser entered the Japanese market on 4 December 2010, announced on 25 November in that year.
On 5 November 2013, Toyota USA announced the 2014 model year Trail Teams edition would be called the "Ultimate Edition" and that the 2014 model year would be the last for the FJ Cruiser in that market. It continued to be made for sale in other markets such as Australia until its export to that market was discontinued in August 2016. As of April 2022, it was still sold in markets such as Chile, the Middle East, the Philippines and Southern African Customs Union countries.
On 1 October 2022, Toyota announced that the FJ Cruiser would be discontinued in the Middle East by December 2022, along with a final edition model.

Common Toyota Fj cruiser problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Toyota FJ Cruiser, several common problems have been reported:
- Faulty Drivetrain Components:
- Specific to FJ Cruisers with automatic gearboxes, drivers have reported problems like bad CV joints, rattling noises from bad bearings, and driveshaft issues. These issues can result in stability problems, noises, and difficulty in maintaining control over the vehicle, affecting the overall driving experience.
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Faults:
- While not as severe as transmission or drivetrain problems, TPMS faults can compromise safety by failing to warn about insufficient tire pressure. Addressing TPMS malfunctions is crucial to ensure safe driving and receive timely low-pressure warnings when necessary.
- Low-Pressure Fuel Pump Issues:
- The FJ Cruiser's low-pressure fuel pump, responsible for delivering fuel to the combustion chambers, is known to stall, leading to engine stalling while driving. This poses a significant safety risk, especially at higher speeds. Prioritizing a thorough check of the fuel pump before purchasing a used FJ Cruiser is essential to avoid potential engine stalling issues.

It happened a lot of years maybe 5-7 years before. -I’m from Canada.

This is great to hear! You've been a loyal Toyota customer for 26 years and this is your 5th truck. It's impressive that your Toyota 4Runners and Tacomas have been able to handle all the tough terrain you encounter while driving to drilling rigs. Your new truck will surely be up to the task as well!

I love this truck! The retro theme is really appealing to me and I appreciate having a truck that stands out. The engine is incredibly powerful with a lot of low end torque and a great exhaust note. Even though the suspension is designed for off-roading and can be a bit floaty with some body roll in turns, it's still surprisingly fun to drive. Plus, it's very smooth and comfortable on the road and highway. I was worried about wind noise with the roof rack, but it's no worse than my old Explorer. Considering the weight, powerful engine, big tires, and aerodynamic sacrifices for styling, the gas mileage is not bad at an average of 19 mpg mixed. The back seat can be a bit tight to get in and out of, but I don't really use it much anyway.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your FJ! It sounds like it's the perfect vehicle for your needs, especially when it comes to driving in remote areas and bad weather. The FJ's performance and reliability are truly impressive, and it's great to hear that you've found it to be the best vehicle you've ever owned. It's a shame that they're no longer sold in the US, but it's wonderful that there are so many aftermarket parts available to customize your FJ to your liking. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

I love this car! It's my favorite one yet. It drives great and is excellent off-road. The stereo is really good too. I have the Trail Teams Edition, and I get a lot of comments on how it looks. It's a lot of fun to own, and my three dogs, all over 95 lbs, seem to love it too.

I had a 2007 Silver manual FJ and absolutely loved it! Two weeks ago, we were in an accident on I95 where we were hit from behind and then swerved and smashed head-on into the concrete barrier (have you ever seen the insurance industry/gov't crash tests with the crash test dummies? - that was us) at around 60 mph. Thankfully, I came out without a scratch; my wife and kid had some bruising and a couple of broken ribs, but overall, they are very well off. Although the truck was totaled, we walked away from the accident - very impressive! I just got a brand new 2011 model to replace it (Brick Red). If you want a fun, tough, and safe vehicle, this is definitely it. I truly believe that my first FJ saved us from very serious injury or even our lives!

This vehicle is designed specifically for off-road use. It may not be suitable for city driving or commuting to work. Parking in the city can be challenging due to blind spots, and the backseat is not adjustable and has limited space. In the event of an accident, backseat passengers may have difficulty exiting the vehicle. Additionally, if the front passengers are unable to open the doors, it may be difficult to exit the vehicle. Please keep these factors in mind when considering this vehicle for your needs.

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned having to replace the torque converter, brake system, and rear end on your 2007 FJ. That sounds like quite the project! By the way, I love the addition of the lemon on the antenna - it adds a fun touch of personality to your car.

The 2013 model has had some issues, including metal flakes in the oil pan. However, the dealership was able to replace the entire engine before the warranty expired, which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. While Toyota markets the FJ Cruiser as a DIY-friendly, Wrangler competitor, it can be frustrating that they do not provide a repair manual or guide. Despite this, the FJ Cruiser is a powerful off-road vehicle that can handle tough terrain. It has some drawbacks, such as loud suspension and poor MPG, but it is not the worst car on the road. Additionally, the exposed pulley wheels and other components may wear out more quickly than expected, but this is a minor issue compared to the overall performance of the vehicle. Overall, the FJ Cruiser is a reliable and capable off-road vehicle that can handle any challenge.

I noticed that the paint on the outside of the FJ scratches easily, and the plastic interior scratches even easier. It's disappointing that for an off-road vehicle, the design seems cheap and poorly executed. Additionally, the premium gas at $2.98 a gallon seems excessive for a vehicle that only gets 15 miles in the city and 20 on the highway. On the bright side, the FJ rides nicely and has good pick-up when you need it. However, it's frustrating to have to run premium gas and worry about the paint. I also found that the windshield cracks easily due to the upright design, which is similar to the Hummer. Rocks don't skip off, which is surprising for an off-road vehicle. I had to fix 5 small dings before the last one gave way to a 16

I have owned several SUVs in the past, including Nissans and Jeeps, and recently purchased the FJ for my family's needs. While there are some design elements that could be improved, such as the dark interior and limited visibility, I have found that the FJ's performance in snowy conditions is not up to par. Despite trying different tires, I have found it to be unsafe to drive in these conditions, especially with the nervous anti-lock brakes. In comparison, my previous Xterra performed better, and the Jeep was the best. Additionally, I have found that the stain-proof seats can be difficult to clean due to dog hair getting caught in the open fibers. Overall, while the FJ has some areas for improvement, I am confident in my assessment of its performance in snowy conditions.
