1993 Plymouth Colt vista problems
The Dodge Colt is a subcompact car that was manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors and marketed by Dodge for model years 1971 to 1994 as captive imports. Rebadged variants include the Plymouth Champ and Plymouth Colt, both were marketed by Plymouth.
The Colt was initially a rebadged variant of the rear-wheel drive Galant and Lancer families before shifting to the smaller front-wheel drive Mitsubishi Mirage subcompacts in 1979.
First generation (1971–1973)
Introduced in 1970 as a 1971 model, the first generation Dodge Colt was a federalized first-generation Mitsubishi Colt Galant. Available as a 2-door pillared coupe, 2-door hardtop coupe, 4-door sedan, and 5-door wagon, the Colt had a 1,597 cc (97.5 cu in) 4-cylinder engine. The unibody layout was traditional, front engine and rear-wheel drive with MacPherson struts in front and a live rear axle. Standard transmission was a 4-speed manual, with a 3-speed automatic being an option. The engine was initially rated for 100 hp (75 kW), but dropped to 83 hp (62 kW) in 1972 when manufacturers revised the method of measuring horsepower from gross to SAE net. For 1973, a GT hardtop coupe model was added featuring rally stripes, sport wheels, and a center console amongst other features. The Dodge Colt was Chrysler's response to the AMC Gremlin, Ford Pinto, and Chevrolet Vega. As a captive import from Mitsubishi, the Colt also competed directly with other Japanese imports, such as the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Datsun 1200.

Common 1993 Plymouth Colt vista problems
The Plymouth Colt Vista 1993 is a car that has been praised for its reliability and performance by some of its owners. However, there are common problems that have been reported by other owners of this car.
One common problem with the Plymouth Colt Vista 1993 is a lack of spark in the engine, which can be caused by a failed power transistor in the distributor assembly. This can prevent the coil from firing properly, resulting in a no-spark condition. The 4G64 engine in the Colt Vista is known to have this issue, and it can be resolved by swapping the distributor or replacing the power transistor.
Another issue that has been reported with the Plymouth Colt Vista 1993 is overheating, which can lead to warped cylinder heads and engine failure. This problem was particularly common with the 1.5L engine, which was prone to overheating and could suffer from premature failure as a result. However, some owners have reported that their Colt Vistas have been able to reach high mileage without experiencing this issue.
In addition to these mechanical problems, some owners of the Plymouth Colt Vista 1993 have reported issues with the car's interior and exterior. For example, some owners have reported that the car's dashboard gauges are poorly designed and take up too much space, while others have reported issues with the car's paint and bodywork.
Despite these common problems, many owners of the Plymouth Colt Vista 1993 have reported that the car is reliable and performs well. The car's tall seats, spacious interior, and impressive performance have been praised by some owners, who have reported that the car is a solid and dependable vehicle. However, it is important for potential buyers to be aware of the common problems that have been reported with this car, and to take steps to address them if they occur.

SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 1999-11-26
- VIN: JP3CA11A3PU
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: AUTOMATIC SEATBELT DISENGAGED WHEN A GUST OF WIND HIT MY CAR DRIVING DOWN RT 84 IN MIDDLETOWN, NY. IT WENT IN THE POSITION OF BEING HALFWAY DEPLOYED AND STAYED THAT WAY FOR APPROX 14 MILES AS I DROVE HOME. IT DID NOT BECOME FULLY DISENGAGED UNTIL I REACHED HOME AND AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. NOW WHEN WE ENTER THE CAR IT WILL ONLY ENGAGE HALFWAY AND THE CABLE IS NOT STICKING OUT OF THE RUNNER FOR THE BELT. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER (PORT JERVIS AUTOMALL), AND THEY TOLD US THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS FOR THE MOTOR OF THE SEATBELT NOT A CABLE ISSUE. HOWEVER WHEN I CONTACTED YOUR OFFICE I WAS TOLD DIFFERENTLY, I THEN CONTACTED CHRYSLER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD AGAIN IT WAS A MOTOR ISSUE, NOT A CABLE ISSUE FOR THE ORIGINAL RECALL OF AUGUST 1997. I AGAIN CALLED CHRYSLER AT THE NUMBER YOU PROVIDE ON THE RECALL SHEETS AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A GUIDE RAIL PROBLEM NOT A MOTOR PROBLEM. SO AS YOU CAN SEE I WAS LIED TO BY CHRYSLER. THEY SAY THAT IT IS THE CABLE NOT THE GUIDE RAIL THAT IS BROKEN. HOWEVER, AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED IT SHOULD MAKE NO DIFFERENCE, AS THE SEAT BELTS ARE THERE FOR OUR SAFETY AND SHOULD WORK NO MATTER WHAT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF YOUR SEATBELTS DON'T WORK THEN YOU ARE NOT SAFE DRIVING YOUR CAR AND I BELIEVE THAT I CANNOT BE THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. *AK

- Date Of Incident: 2024-11-24
- VIN: JP3CA21A6PU
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: A FEW MONTHS AGO THE ROOF ON MY CAR STARTED TO DEVELOP RUST IN STRAIGHT LINES ACROSS IT. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WHEN I VISITED MARRONE DODGE TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE. THIS WAS BACK ON APRIL 8TH, 1999. I WAS TOLD BY THEIR BODY SHOP THAT THE ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE SUPPORTING BRACKETS. SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING THE BRACKETS AND SINCE MY CAR IN THEIR ESTIMATE WAS ONLY WORTH $900, THEY OFFERED ME A "GOOD WILL" OFFER OF $1000 TO GET THE REPAIRS DONE SOMEWHERE ELSE AND SIGN DOCUMENT RELEASING CHRYSLER OF ANY FUTURE LIABILITY. I MAILED A CERTIFIED LETTER TO THEIR CUSTUMER SERVICE MANAGER ALONG WITH 3 ESTIMATES FROM 3 DIFFERENT BODY SHOPS. ALL OF THEM WERE OVER $1600. SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THE REPAIRS MAY TAKE UP TO A MONTH AND I WOULD NOT BE PROVIDED WITH A LOANER CAR. IN THE LETTER I EXPLINED THE 3 BODY SHOPS WOULD NOT TAKE MORE THAN 3-5 DAYS TO DO THE REPAIRS ONCE THE PARTS HAD ARRIVED. I WANT THEM TO FIX THE ROOF WITH THE LEAST INCONVENIENCE TO ME. I HAVE ALREADY SEEN A 1993 MITSUBISHI MIRAGE AND ANOTHER1993 PLYMOUTH COLT WITH THE SAME TYPE OF RUST ON THE ROOF. AS OF TODAY 9/28/99 I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE FROM THE MAROONE DODGE IN REGARDS TO MY LETTER AND HOW THEY PLAN TO RESOLVE THIS SITUATION.
