Common Peugeot 505 problems
The Peugeot 505, introduced in 1979, was known for its robust build quality and excellent suspension, making it popular in various global markets. However, there are some common problems that owners have reported over the years.
- Rust: The Peugeot 505, like many cars of its era, is prone to rust, particularly in the sills, wheel arches, and door bottoms. This can lead to structural issues and expensive repairs if not addressed promptly. Regular inspections and maintenance can help prevent or mitigate the effects of rust.
- Suspension issues: Some owners have reported issues with the suspension, particularly with the rear suspension bushings wearing out, leading to a less stable and comfortable ride. This can be addressed by replacing the worn-out components, but it can be a costly repair.
- Electrical problems: Electrical issues are not uncommon in the Peugeot 505, with some owners reporting problems with the ignition system, alternator, and other electrical components. These issues can be difficult to diagnose and repair, particularly in older cars, and may require professional assistance.
- Engine issues: Some owners have reported issues with the engine, particularly with the timing chain and water pump, which can wear out and cause engine problems if not replaced regularly. This can be a significant repair, particularly in older cars, and may require professional assistance.
- Fuel system issues: Some owners have reported issues with the fuel system, particularly with the fuel pump and injectors, which can wear out and cause performance issues if not replaced regularly. This can be a costly repair, particularly in older cars, and may require professional assistance.
- Transmission issues: Some owners have reported issues with the transmission, particularly with the gearbox and clutch, which can wear out and cause performance issues if not replaced regularly. This can be a costly repair, particularly in older cars, and may require professional assistance.
- Interior wear: The interior of the Peugeot 505, particularly the seats and dashboard, can wear out over time, leading to a less comfortable and less appealing driving experience. This can be addressed by replacing worn-out components, but it can be a costly repair.
In conclusion, while the Peugeot 505 is known for its robust build quality and excellent suspension, there are some common problems that owners have reported over the years. Regular inspections and maintenance can help prevent or mitigate the effects of these issues, but some repairs may require professional assistance and can be costly, particularly in older cars.
