Mercury Montego problems
The Mercury Montego is a nameplate that was applied to three separate generations of vehicles marketed by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. Taking its name from Montego Bay, Jamaica, the nameplate made its first appearance for 1967 in the Canadian market as part of the Mercury-derived Meteor model line. For 1968, the Mercury Montego made its debut across North America, becoming the Mercury counterpart of the Ford Torino intermediate-size model line for two generations.
For the 1977 model year, Ford revised the intermediate-size product ranges of both its Ford and Mercury divisions; as part of a mid-cycle update, Mercury discontinued the Montego nameplate and expanded the Mercury Cougar line to include a full range of sedans and wagons (with the Ford Gran Torino becoming the Ford LTD II).
After a 28-year absence, the Montego nameplate was revived for the 2005 model year, this time applied to a full-size sedan. Slotted in size between the Mercury Milan and Grand Marquis, the 2005 Montego was the Mercury counterpart of the Ford Five Hundred. For the 2008 model year, the Montego adopted the nameplate of the car it had replaced, becoming the final generation of the Mercury Sable.

Mercury Montego 2007
- Date Of Incident: 2019-07-03
- Date Complaint: 2019-07-03
- VIN: 1MEHM401X7G
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF MY CAR ACCELERATING WHILE IN A LOWER RPM SUCH AS AT A STOP LIGHT, DRIVE THRU WINDOW AND PARKING LOTS. ESPECIALLY INCREASED INSTANCES WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS RUNNING. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE CAR TO DIE COMPLETELY IN SOME CASES. I HAVE TO TRY TO PULL OVER SOMEWHERE IN ORDER TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THIS ISSUE WITH THE ACCELERATION IS INCREASING IN FREQUENCY LATELY. I CAN COUNT ON IT TO HAPPEN EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING AND SOMETIMES WHEN IT IS NOT. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED HUNDREDS OF TIMES. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS! IF I WERE SLOW TO REACT TO THE ACCELERATION, THE CAR WOULD DEFINITELY RUN OVER A PEDESTRIAN OR HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE! LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUE LIKE THIS OCCURRING IN OTHER LIKE MODELS. PLEASE HELP! LAST NIGHT MY HUSBAND AND I WENT THROUGH A LOCAL RESTAURANT DRIVE THRU WINDOW AND WHILE GOING THROUGH THE LINE, THE ENGINE SURGED 5 DIFFERENT TIMES! THESE ARE NOT SLIGHT LITTLE RPM BUMPS, THESE ARE FULL FLEDGED "THE CAR THINKS I AM MASHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL TO OBTAIN SPEEDS OF LIKE 45 MPH" ACCELERATIONS! TODAY I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 35 MPH WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. THE CAR DIED WHEN IT REACHED A DOWNHILL TURN AT THE POINT I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO HOLD BACK THE SPEED. OF COURSE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHEN THE ENGINE DIED, SO I HAD TO TRY AND FIND A PLACE TO "FLOAT" INTO IN ORDER TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND RESTART IT. I NEED THIS FIXED VERY BADLY BEFORE MY FAMILY AND I ARE IN AN ACCIDENT. I CANNOT AFFORD TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AT THE DEALERSHIP HOPING THEY GET THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS NOR CAN I AFFORD A NEW CAR.

As a Professional Engineer with many years of automotive experience, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with my 2005 Mercury Montego, Premier FWD. It strikes an excellent balance between fuel economy and performance, and after 7600 miles of driving, I averaged an impressive 28.5 mpg on the highway and 20.2 mpg in the city. The inside space and trunk size are best in class, and the overall quality is excellent. The driving and handling performance are also top-notch. For those who complain about engine size and power, I suggest getting yourself a sports car and disqualifying yourself from commenting on this excellent family car, which is very appropriate considering current gas prices!

Handles nice. The interior is roomy with very comfortable seating, both in the front and back. The trunk is also large and at a convenient height for easy loading and unloading. This car seems to have the best features of a car that sits tall like a van.

I really love my Montego CVT AWD! It handles so well for a car of its size and has great acceleration. Last night, I had some fun on the highway and let me tell you, the CVT has a fantastic ratio spread. The engine, despite having only 203 hp, is pretty snappy above 60 mph. (I even floored it around 75 and the tacho went up to 6700 rpm, and I went from 75 to 90 in around 2 seconds!) By the way, I wasn't under the influence of anything, I was just in a great mood and wanted to drive fast. I can't wait to see how much more driving pleasure the new Montego will have with its 3.5 liter engine!

It's great to hear that you find the car fun to drive and powerful! The only downside seems to be when the car is at a complete stop. Additionally, it's good to know that you appreciate the reverse sensing feature.

I've had my Montego for almost 7 months now, and I bought it as a certified pre-owned car from the dealer. I must say, it's a terrific car! With AWD, I'm getting an average of 22 MPG, with a 60/40 split between highway and city driving. The CVT transmission and engine combination make for a great value with respect to gas consumption. However, the V-6 is a bit underpowered. If it had 250-260 horses instead of the current 205 with the CVT tranny, it would be perfect. (Nissan did this with the Murano- why can't you Ford?) It's adequate, but you don't get the

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. When I first bought it, I was really impressed with the comfortable and spacious interior. It had so many great features like seat warmers, a moonroof, leather seats, and even a beeping back bumper. However, I've had some issues with the exterior and engine quality. Unfortunately, I've had to deal with a lot of problems with this vehicle. Some of them were minor, like the trunk latch not working and the brakes needing to be replaced after only 30K miles (which was covered by a manufacturer recall). But there were also some major issues, like the air conditioning needing to be replaced and the transmission failing after only 63K miles. I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you were considering this car. While it may look nice on the outside, it's not the best quality Ford out there. Let me know if you have any questions!

I purchased this car used from a Lincoln/Mercury dealer with 26k miles on it. To ensure that I was covered, I also purchased an extended warranty that covered the car bumper to bumper for an additional 75k miles and 5 years. Thankfully, the warranty came in handy as I had to replace the transmission at 46k, the master cylinder at 28k, the radio at 30k, and the exhaust hanger at 34k. Additionally, the paint on the car was bubbling up in about 3 different areas. I would advise against purchasing any Ford product with a CVT transmission as it has terrible mpg.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my thoughts on this car with you. In my experience, it feels more like a truck than a car. It doesn't have a lot of power to get on the highway and the interior has a truck-like feel to it. Additionally, the ride is quite hard, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. As an owner of a grand marque, I have to say that this car falls short in comparison and it also cost me more. Thanks for listening!

This is a nice car, but it could benefit from more power. While the Premier AWD model may be priced over $30,000 when fully loaded, it may be more reasonable to consider the model priced in the $24-26,000 range. It's possible that supply will catch up with demand, and resale value may decrease. In a few years, it may be possible to purchase this car at a lower price with rebates. Thank you for considering this information.

Your car is fine and the dealership is outstanding. It has a lot of room, but the horsepower is not enough for the CVT transmission. The light is very good, but the outside antenna is no good. The car frame is weak and the ride is noisy. It would be better if the center transmission was put back on the steering column.
