2020 Mercedes-benz Gle350 problems
The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.
The first-generation M-Class, designated with the model code W163, is a body-on-frame SUV and was produced until 2004. For a short time, between 1999 and 2002, the W163 M-Class was also built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, for the European market, before all production moved to the U.S. plant near Vance, Alabama. The second-generation M-Class (W164) moved to a unibody platform while sharing most components with the GL-Class, which sports a longer body to accommodate third-row seating.
Since April 2015, the M-Class has been renamed to the GLE with the release of the facelifted W166 model, in an effort to harmonize Mercedes-Benz SUV nameplates by aligning it with the E-Class.

Common 2020 Mercedes-benz Gle350 problems
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues range from check engine lights, excessive brake wear, dead batteries, and poor brakes to noises and leaks, piston cracking, and recalls.
Check engine lights are the most widespread complaint from 2020 GLE owners, showing up within the first 15,000 miles. When a check engine light appears, an OBD-II scan tool should be used to read the code that caused the light to turn on. The problem can be as simple as a damaged gas cap or loose sensor, but it can also lead to more serious mechanical issues, which can cost between $20 and over $1,000 to fix.
Excessive brake wear has also been reported by some Mercedes GLE owners at around 10,000 miles. The front brake pads wear down quickly due to the weight of the SUV. Changing out the brake pads costs around $400, while new rotors are an additional $900 if they are damaged.
Dead batteries are another problem mentioned by 2020 Mercedes GLE owners within the first 2,500 miles. There are a lot of electrical accessories and computers in the GLE, and sometimes they do not shut down properly when the engine is off. Diagnosing the source of the problem costs about $150, while fixing it can cost $10 to $250.
Some owners have reported poor brakes, which can be a significant safety concern. For instance, one owner mentioned that the 2020 GLE350 4Matic needed front brakes at 7mm after driving 37,000 miles.
In addition to these issues, some 2020 GLE owners have reported noises and leaks. These can include squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks. For example, one owner reported a rattle in the headliner or moonroof that reoccurred, while another had a water leak where the previous installer hadn't used enough epoxy after replacing the windshield.
Piston cracking has also been reported in the GLE350 M264 engine, which is based on the piston cracking M274. This issue has not shown up yet on the V167 GLE350, but owners are advised to keep an eye out for it.
Lastly, there have been two recalls for Mercedes SUVs, including the GLE. The first recall involves the transmission in select GLE and GLS models from the 2020-2023 model years equipped with the six-cylinder engine and the nine-speed automatic. This issue can cause the engine to stall, potentially exposing drivers to rear-end collisions. The second recall affects fewer 2024 GLE vehicles, specifically the GLE350, GLE450, and AMG GLE53 (in both standard and coupe body styles). This recall is due to a welding issue on the supplier's side, which could cause the accelerator and brake pedals to fracture and break, affecting a driver's ability to accelerate or decelerate.
