Mazda Millenia problems
The Mazda Millenia is an automobile which was manufactured by Mazda in Japan from 1993 to 2002.
The Millenia was originally planned as the second of three models for Mazda's proposed luxury brand Amati. As the company's dwindling finances caused by the onslaught of the "bubble economy" prevented the launch of the Amati brand, the Millenia was released in the autumn of 1993 in Europe as the Mazda Xedos 9 and in Japan and Australia as the Eunos 800. The car was launched in North America in 1995 as the Mazda Millenia and in July 1997 the Japanese market Eunos 800 was also renamed to Mazda Millenia as Mazda discontinued the Eunos brand. There was no model link to the other Mazda marque, Ẽfini.
Having been developed for a separate market from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted myriad finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic quality, panel gap and thicker paint coating. The Millenia/Eunos 800/Xedos 9 was assembled along with the smaller Eunos 500/Mazda Xedos 6 in a new production line, presumably set up for Amati cars.
The Millenia does not have a direct predecessor or replacement in the Mazda product line, and production ceased with the introduction of the Mazda6 in 2002, itself a replacement for the 626. It appears to have received a brand-new platform, although the multi-link suspension at both ends strongly resembled that of the 1991 Mazda Sentia, with minor changes such as replacing the lower I-arm with an A-arm for front wheel drive. It was the only production car in the world to employ a Miller cycle engine (The current Demio/Mazda2 features Miller Cycle on one of its engines). Yaw-sensitive four-wheel steering was available as an option in Japan; Mazda claimed that with this feature, the Millenia was capable of passing the elk test at speeds comparable to the BMW 850i and Nissan 300ZX.
The 1997 Japanese market name change from Eunos 800 to Mazda Millenia was accompanied by a significant facelift that included some cost-saving measures. For instance, the hood was downgraded from aluminum to steel. The Millenia was again facelifted for the 2001 model year.

Common Mazda Millenia problems
The Mazda Millenia, a mid-size luxury car produced from 1995 to 2002, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues include engine problems, transmission problems, electrical problems, suspension problems, and rust.
Engine problems are one of the most frequently reported issues with the Mazda Millenia, particularly with the supercharged V6 engine. Some owners have reported oil leaks, failure of the supercharger, and issues with the timing belt. These problems can be costly to repair and may require the replacement of major engine components.
Transmission problems are another common issue with the Mazda Millenia. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, including slipping and shifting problems. These issues can also be expensive to repair and may require the replacement of the transmission.
Electrical problems have also been reported by some Mazda Millenia owners. These issues include problems with the alternator or battery, which can cause the car to have difficulty starting or running.
Suspension problems are another common issue with the Mazda Millenia. Some owners have reported issues with the struts and shocks, which can affect the car's ride and handling.
Rust is also a problem with the Mazda Millenia, particularly on the rear quarter panels. This can affect the car's appearance and may require the replacement of affected body panels.
It's important to note that not all Mazda Millenias will have these issues, and many owners have reported no problems at all. However, it's always a good idea to have a used car inspected by a mechanic before making a purchase to identify any potential issues. Additionally, regular maintenance and prompt repairs can help prevent problems from developing or becoming more serious.
Why did they stop making Mazda Millenia?
In the end, buyers were being asked to sacrifice power and performance for only a slight increase in efficiency. Indeed, sales were not what Mazda hoped for. I pulled up sales figures on Automotive News, and in 2001, the year it was axed, Mazda sold 19,849 Millenias.
What kind of engine is in the Mazda Millenia?
Production for the Millenia ended in 2002, without replacement. Engines: 2.5 L KL-DE V6. 2.3 L KJ-ZEM V6 (Miller cycle) - 217 bhp (162 kW)
How much does a Mazda Millenia cost?
Prices for a used Mazda Millenia range from a high of $17,700 to a low of $3,600. Remember that mileage and condition can affect price.
Is the 2002 Mazda Millenia supercharged?
The Millenia S model, our preference, is powered by the still rather trick 2.3 liter, DOHC, 24-valve supercharged Miller-cycle V6 which puts out 210 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. This smooth and economical powerplant took us to 60 in 7.7 seconds, and on through the quarter mile in 15.9 seconds at 90 MPH.

WE PURCHASED THE MAZDA FROM UNIVERSITY FORD/MAZDA IN ATHENS, GA IN LATE 1999. IT WAS A NEW VEHICLE WITHOUT PRIOR TITLE OWNERSHIP. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE MILEAGE ON THE AUTO; IT MAY HAVE BEEN 50 TO 100 MILES. WHENEVER WE USE THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE MAZDA ACCELERATES. AT FIRST, WE DID NOT NOTICE THE PROBLEM. IT WAS NOT UNTIL WE WERE PULLED OVER BY A POLICE OFFICER, TELLING US THAT WE WERE DRIVING MORE THAN TEN (10) MILES FASTER THAN WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD BEEN SET. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE AUTO BACK TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND RETURNED THE AUTO TO US. DURING THE NEXT YEARS, WE HAVE TAKEN THE MAZDA TO VARIOUS DEALERS THROUGHOUT THE NORTH GEORGIA AREA AND ALL CLAIM THERE IS NO PROBLEM. SEVERAL YEARS AGO, I RAN A CHECK ON EDMUNDS.COM AND FOUND A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED BY MAZDA TO ITS DEALERS REPORTING THE PROBLEM BUT NOT ALLOWING IT TO BE REPAIRED AT THE COMPANY'S EXPENSE. THIS APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO THE ON-GOING TOYOTA PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP US HAVE THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED. [XXX] *TR

This car is one of the best sports sedans I've ever driven. It's fast, nimble, and has good ride quality. Before purchasing this car, I test drove the Maxima and Diamente. Compared to the Maxima, both cars promise luxury and performance, but the Millenia S has more features that the Maxima doesn't have. As for the Diamente, it just didn't even come close. I have 67,000 miles on my Millenia S, and the only part I've had to pay for is the O2 sensor. If you're looking for a reliable luxury sports sedan that won't break the bank, the Millenia S (S model only) is a great choice.

Hi there! I've been driving my Mazda for 9 years now and I have to say, it's been a pretty good ride. I did have to replace the transmission at 100,000 miles and a few other parts along the way, but overall the engine has held up well. The only downside is that some of the parts can be a bit pricey and hard to find. Also, the resale value isn't as high as I would like. But all in all, it's a great looking car and has served me well. Maybe Mazda could consider improving the durability a bit, but I still highly recommend it!

Mazda offered fantastic incentives for pricing the car. I completely agree that this is an incredible amount of luxury for the money. I never thought I would be able to afford such a high-quality car at this price! This was my first time purchasing a Japanese car, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality!

Price and luxury design and materials make this automobile worthwhile. The beautiful aesthetics and long list of features are sure to impress. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you compare it to other luxury vehicles that cost 50% more just for the brand name. Take it for a spin and see for yourself - you'll be making a smart choice by saving a ton of money and still enjoying pure luxury.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it brand new back in '95 and I absolutely loved the look and the way it drove. It gets great gas mileage, around 24-26 mpg in town, and it's also very quiet. I didn't have any problems with it until the warranty expired at 60k miles. Since then, I've had to replace both cv jts and plug wires, and it has developed a transmission fluid leak, 3 oil leaks, and now possibly a head gasket issue. I've been keeping up with regular maintenance, but it's been quite expensive to maintain and repair. Just last week, the coolant leaked out of the AC and had to be replaced. Overall, I've had some challenges with this car, but I'm still grateful for the time I've had with it. Thanks for listening!

Although my experience with this car was not positive, it is important to note that repairs can be quite expensive due to the cost of parts. Additionally, the car may experience overheating at high altitudes and some engine issues. It is worth considering these factors before making a purchase. However, it is important to note that this car shares an engine with the Ford Probe. Thank you for considering this information.

This car has had several issues, including airbag deployment, distributor cap failure, alternator, transmission, fuel pump, and oxygen sensor problems. Despite the significant amount of money I have spent on repairs, I cannot recommend this car to anyone. It is not a wise investment.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it used with 40,000 miles and overall it's been pretty good. However, I did have to replace the head gasket at 52,000 miles which cost $1300 to repair. More recently, at 112,000 miles, the transmission went out and it will cost $2500 to fix. I also had to replace 2 CV joints. Despite these issues, there are many good aspects to the car. Just wanted to give a heads up to any potential buyers. Take care!

I got a great deal on my Millenia from a bank at loan value. The car was in good condition with 69K miles. However, I later discovered that the 60K mile tuneup had not been performed. When I went to the dealer, they quoted me $1500 for the tuneup. It's important to keep in mind that while you can get these cars for a low price, maintenance costs can add up quickly. I've also experienced some minor issues with the car, such as the serpentine belt tensioner coming loose, which sounded like a blown engine but was an easy fix. The transmission can be indecisive at times, but overall the car has served me well. It's worth noting that resale value is not great due to the fact that the car is no longer in production.

The head gasket failed at 52K miles, unfortunately the warranty only covered up to 50K miles, so Mazda was unable to provide assistance. Additionally, I encountered an issue with lost keys, which Mazda initially had an incorrect key code for in their system, resulting in a charge to determine the correct keys. While I was disappointed with the customer service experience, I remain confident in my decision to not purchase another Mazda in the future.
