Mazda Millenia problems

The Mazda Millenia is an automobile which was manufactured by Mazda in Japan from 1993 to 2002.
The Millenia was originally planned as the second of three models for Mazda's proposed luxury brand Amati. As the company's dwindling finances caused by the onslaught of the "bubble economy" prevented the launch of the Amati brand, the Millenia was released in the autumn of 1993 in Europe as the Mazda Xedos 9 and in Japan and Australia as the Eunos 800. The car was launched in North America in 1995 as the Mazda Millenia and in July 1997 the Japanese market Eunos 800 was also renamed to Mazda Millenia as Mazda discontinued the Eunos brand. There was no model link to the other Mazda marque, Ẽfini.
Having been developed for a separate market from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted myriad finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic quality, panel gap and thicker paint coating. The Millenia/Eunos 800/Xedos 9 was assembled along with the smaller Eunos 500/Mazda Xedos 6 in a new production line, presumably set up for Amati cars.
The Millenia does not have a direct predecessor or replacement in the Mazda product line, and production ceased with the introduction of the Mazda6 in 2002, itself a replacement for the 626. It appears to have received a brand-new platform, although the multi-link suspension at both ends strongly resembled that of the 1991 Mazda Sentia, with minor changes such as replacing the lower I-arm with an A-arm for front wheel drive. It was the only production car in the world to employ a Miller cycle engine (The current Demio/Mazda2 features Miller Cycle on one of its engines). Yaw-sensitive four-wheel steering was available as an option in Japan; Mazda claimed that with this feature, the Millenia was capable of passing the elk test at speeds comparable to the BMW 850i and Nissan 300ZX.
The 1997 Japanese market name change from Eunos 800 to Mazda Millenia was accompanied by a significant facelift that included some cost-saving measures. For instance, the hood was downgraded from aluminum to steel. The Millenia was again facelifted for the 2001 model year.

Common Mazda Millenia problems
The Mazda Millenia, a mid-size luxury car produced from 1995 to 2002, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues include engine problems, transmission problems, electrical problems, suspension problems, and rust.
Engine problems are one of the most frequently reported issues with the Mazda Millenia, particularly with the supercharged V6 engine. Some owners have reported oil leaks, failure of the supercharger, and issues with the timing belt. These problems can be costly to repair and may require the replacement of major engine components.
Transmission problems are another common issue with the Mazda Millenia. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, including slipping and shifting problems. These issues can also be expensive to repair and may require the replacement of the transmission.
Electrical problems have also been reported by some Mazda Millenia owners. These issues include problems with the alternator or battery, which can cause the car to have difficulty starting or running.
Suspension problems are another common issue with the Mazda Millenia. Some owners have reported issues with the struts and shocks, which can affect the car's ride and handling.
Rust is also a problem with the Mazda Millenia, particularly on the rear quarter panels. This can affect the car's appearance and may require the replacement of affected body panels.
It's important to note that not all Mazda Millenias will have these issues, and many owners have reported no problems at all. However, it's always a good idea to have a used car inspected by a mechanic before making a purchase to identify any potential issues. Additionally, regular maintenance and prompt repairs can help prevent problems from developing or becoming more serious.
Why did they stop making Mazda Millenia?
In the end, buyers were being asked to sacrifice power and performance for only a slight increase in efficiency. Indeed, sales were not what Mazda hoped for. I pulled up sales figures on Automotive News, and in 2001, the year it was axed, Mazda sold 19,849 Millenias.
What kind of engine is in the Mazda Millenia?
Production for the Millenia ended in 2002, without replacement. Engines: 2.5 L KL-DE V6. 2.3 L KJ-ZEM V6 (Miller cycle) - 217 bhp (162 kW)
How much does a Mazda Millenia cost?
Prices for a used Mazda Millenia range from a high of $17,700 to a low of $3,600. Remember that mileage and condition can affect price.
Is the 2002 Mazda Millenia supercharged?
The Millenia S model, our preference, is powered by the still rather trick 2.3 liter, DOHC, 24-valve supercharged Miller-cycle V6 which puts out 210 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. This smooth and economical powerplant took us to 60 in 7.7 seconds, and on through the quarter mile in 15.9 seconds at 90 MPH.

WE PURCHASED THE MAZDA FROM UNIVERSITY FORD/MAZDA IN ATHENS, GA IN LATE 1999. IT WAS A NEW VEHICLE WITHOUT PRIOR TITLE OWNERSHIP. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE MILEAGE ON THE AUTO; IT MAY HAVE BEEN 50 TO 100 MILES. WHENEVER WE USE THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE MAZDA ACCELERATES. AT FIRST, WE DID NOT NOTICE THE PROBLEM. IT WAS NOT UNTIL WE WERE PULLED OVER BY A POLICE OFFICER, TELLING US THAT WE WERE DRIVING MORE THAN TEN (10) MILES FASTER THAN WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD BEEN SET. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE AUTO BACK TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND RETURNED THE AUTO TO US. DURING THE NEXT YEARS, WE HAVE TAKEN THE MAZDA TO VARIOUS DEALERS THROUGHOUT THE NORTH GEORGIA AREA AND ALL CLAIM THERE IS NO PROBLEM. SEVERAL YEARS AGO, I RAN A CHECK ON EDMUNDS.COM AND FOUND A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED BY MAZDA TO ITS DEALERS REPORTING THE PROBLEM BUT NOT ALLOWING IT TO BE REPAIRED AT THE COMPANY'S EXPENSE. THIS APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO THE ON-GOING TOYOTA PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP US HAVE THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED. [XXX] *TR

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my Millenia. I purchased it last year with 117,000 miles for $7,000. Since then, I've put on 13,000 miles. Overall, it's been pretty reliable, but unfortunately, I recently had to have it towed to the dealer for repairs. The water pump and timing belt needed to be fixed, which ended up costing $1,100 not including the towing cost. Other than that, I can't really complain. Thanks for listening!

You've got yourself a great car! The acceleration is fantastic and the unique interior scheme really sets it apart. It's also great that not too many people have this car, making it even more special.

This car has an amazing reliability history. It's surprising that it never took off in sales. You can't find a sleeker, snazzier, roomier, or sportier car for the same price. This is actually my second S model, and I disagree with the review given by Edmunds. I'm selling mine to take advantage of the low mortgage rates that are currently available. Consumer Reports gave this car high ratings for reliability and build quality, so I think it's a great choice.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 2002 Millenia S. I bought it back in 2005 with only 27,000 miles on it, and now it has 87,000 miles. I've had to replace the tires, front and rear brakes, a broken radiator hose, and fix a vacuum leak, but other than that, the car runs perfectly! It always passes smog tests and looks amazing. I get compliments on it almost every time I drive it. The best part is that everything still works like new and the car has lots of power with the supercharger. Thanks for listening!

Congratulations on your first car! It sounds like you had quite the adventure with it. Despite a few quirks, it served you well and was very reliable. You took great care of it by replacing the radiator, front wheel bearings, and brake pads and disks. It's amazing that you were able to drive it for so long, all the way until it reached 200000 miles. Thank you for sharing your story!

Although my experience with this car was not positive, it is important to note that repairs can be quite expensive due to the cost of parts. Additionally, the car may experience overheating at high altitudes and some engine issues. It is worth considering these factors before making a purchase. However, it is important to note that this car shares an engine with the Ford Probe. Thank you for considering this information.

95 Millenias all smoke some, and that's just a fact of life. However, this car has some great features that make it worth considering. It has smooth lines and a good engine, which makes for a comfortable ride on the interstate. It usually gets around 24 mpg, which is pretty good. While it may have a little bit of trouble getting up and going sometimes, it accelerates well in the 40-60 mph range. Additionally, the trunk is huge, the backseat is roomy, and the instrument panel is set up nicely. Overall, it's a great car with a lot of great features to offer.

Congratulations on purchasing a car for your college-aged daughter! The car you bought was in great shape, both inside and out, despite being 10 years old and having a reasonable amount of mileage. Although the check engine light was on, the previous owner was upfront about it and mentioned that their mechanic couldn't diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, the car failed inspection in Pennsylvania and required some repairs, including changing the catalytic converters, fixing a broken seal on the transmission, and changing a light bulb that required removing the front bumper. While the car is pretty, it can be expensive to maintain. It's important to keep in mind the cost of repairs when purchasing a car. Thank you for sharing your experience!

In my experience, the Mazda Millenia has not lived up to my expectations. Despite the positive reviews, I have had to invest a significant amount of money into repairs over the past three years of ownership. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this car and will not be purchasing a Mazda again. Thank you for considering my experience.

I purchased my Millenia brand new in 2002. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with it from the start. It is the white model with a gold bottom. Despite the initial problems, I appreciated all the extra features that came with the car for the price. However, there was a significant amount of interior road noise that made it difficult to hold a conversation on my cell phone. Additionally, I had some engine light problems early on, which were caused by Mazda's requirement for premium fuel. Although they later revised this requirement, it was after they had to work on my engine five times! Dealing with Mazda was quite challenging. I have read other reviews where people have mentioned how quiet their Millenias are, and I wonder if we are talking about the same car. I even purchased new tires that were supposed to provide a quiet ride, but they did not help. I eventually realized that it was the car itself that was the issue. While I am glad that others have had a positive experience with their Millenias, unfortunately, mine turned out to be a lemon.
