Kia Rondo problems

The Kia Carens (Korean: 기아 카렌스) is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured by Kia since 1999, spanning over four generations, and was marketed worldwide under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Rondo. The initial three generations had a MPV body style and were marketed worldwide, with presence in its home country South Korea, in Europe, and North America since the second-generation. The fourth-generation model took a different approach in terms of design and targeted markets, as it was developed as a "strategic model" for the Indian market. It also adopts a crossover-inspired exterior design.
The name "Carens" derives from the word "car" and "renaissance", while the name "Rondo" derives from the musical term Rondo.
First generation (RS/FJ; 1999)
Kia debuted the first generation model of Carens, the RS series in May 1999. It is based on the same platform as the Kia Sephia. A facelift was issued in 2002.
The model was discontinued in Australia in 2001, with production continuing elsewhere for the updated model which was launched in 2002.

My stabilizer bar had completely ripped apart from my subframe. He said the metal was as thin as a few pieces of paper and there was rust. He contacted Kia to see if there were any campaigns on my car and there was one for an anti corrosion coating that was not applied. I took my car to my local Kia dealership and they were not interested in helping and said they couldn’t even look at it for diagnosis for at least a month and even then didn’t know if they would cover it. I am 38 weeks pregnant and have two small children and my mechanic said it was a major safety issue to drive it as is. I contacted Kia corporate and they informed me that it would be covered but I would have to get it diagnosed at a dealership first or pay for it out of pocket. I’ve contacted every dealership within two hours of me and they have all said they can’t help or haven’t gotten back to me. Kia says they can’t be of more help because each dealership is independently owned.

- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

Vehicle year: 2008
Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Rondo. I purchased it back in 2012 with around 63,000 miles on it. I'm happy to report that I just passed the 100,000 mile mark and have had no major issues! Of course, we've had to change the brake pads, air conditioner coils, and tires over time, but that's to be expected. While the gas mileage isn't the best, the cargo room is fantastic and we can comfortably fit up to 7 people in it. Even as a 6'6

I purchased this car as a 1-year-old used vehicle from a rental sales place. It was used, but in like-new condition. I really like it because it handles well and seems very soundly built. I was pleasantly surprised because Kia was the worst on my list last time I purchased a car.

I absolutely love the KIA slogan, 'The Power to Surprise', and this vehicle definitely lives up to it! The fit and finish are faultless, and the design is incredibly efficient, providing an amazing amount of space inside despite its compact exterior. The chair-like seating and large side windows make for a joyous driving experience with outstanding visibility. The 4-cylinder engine never fails to impress me with its performance, outperforming even the 2.8L V6 on my previous vehicle, while also providing great economy and smooth shifts. I also noticed that despite its height, it is not as susceptible to wind as my previous vehicle, which was 10 inches shorter. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this vehicle and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient car.

We've had this vehicle for just over a month and it has been a really enjoyable experience. The ride has been smooth and quiet, which is especially important to me as I spend a lot of time on the road. I have been impressed with the quality and features of the vehicle, which have exceeded my expectations.

Vehicle year: 2009
I was tired of driving small sedans, so I started looking for something that was both economical and roomy. That's when I found the Rondo, EX trim. It's an overall great family car, with plenty of headroom and enough space for the kids in the 2nd row. The visibility in this car is near-perfect, making it easy to see while driving. I have the 3rd row, but it's not very spacious unless the person back there is about 8 years old or younger. However, the 3rd row easily flips down flat, providing a good amount of load space. The 2nd row also folds flat, but it takes a bit more effort. This car is a great hauler for either people or stuff, just not at the same time. The tech features are pretty sweet for a 2009 vehicle, including a touch screen display, solid navigation, 8 speakers, heated seats, and an iPod jack and interface.

Hi there! We're sorry to hear that you've been experiencing a wind noise from the driver side window of your 2008 7 Passenger Kia Rondo. We understand how frustrating that can be. It's great to hear that you've been happy with the vehicle otherwise. Have you considered taking it to a different mechanic for a second opinion? We hope this issue gets resolved soon!

Vehicle year: 2009
I purchased my 2008 Kia Rondo with 19,000 miles on it, and it was a great fit for my needs, as I often transported my kids, dogs, kayaks, and camping gear. However, at 51,000 miles, the engine has locked up, despite my regular servicing and oil changes. It is certainly disheartening to face this issue. The cost of replacing the engine is $4,800, and I still owe $9,800 on the car. While this experience has been frustrating, I remain confident in my ability to handle this situation. I will consider my options and make the best decision for myself. Thank you for your understanding.

I recently purchased a Kia Rondo in April. Just this month they replaced the engine - the entire short block. It was making noise for a while and took some time to diagnose, but now my new car had to have a new engine put in. I must admit, I am feeling quite nervous about the future of this car.

PROS - This is an amazing deal! A 2008 leftover stickered at $23,000+ was bought early in 2009 for only $16,000 total (no trade, and included tax, title, and registration). That's incredible! - The mileage is also impressive, with 24+ mpg mixed driving and 27+ mpg on the highway (usually running around 70 mph). We're easy on the pedal. - It also tows a 1,000 lb pop up trailer effortlessly, only costing 3 mpg. - The build is solid and reasonably quiet. - The 3rd row split bench seat lets us haul 6 people total - 4 adults, two kids in car seats - AND a big stroller -- plus a few other things -- in relative comfort. IFFY: - The looks may be unremarkable, but it's what's on the inside that counts! - The road-handling and performance are reasonably satisfying (it is a 'midi van' after all!). - While the front seats may not be very comfortable, the rest of the van makes up for it.
