Common 2019 Kia Cadenza problems

The Kia Cadenza, a full-size executive sedan introduced in 2010, has been known for several common problems across various model years. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues, based on complaints from owners:

  • Knocking at Start-Up: One of the most common problems reported by Kia Cadenza owners is a knocking or ticking noise when starting the engine, particularly in the 2014 model year. The cause of this issue is not explicitly stated in the search results, but it is mentioned as the most reported problem for the 2014 Kia Cadenza.
  • Rust and Paint Peeling: Some Kia Cadenza models, including the 2014-2020 model years, are prone to rust and paint peeling issues. These problems can affect the vehicle's aesthetic value and structural integrity, potentially causing damage to components like the fuel tank housing, chassis, engine mounts, wheel wells, and other parts.
  • Rodent Infestation: Kia Cadenza models from 2011 to 2017 are known to be susceptible to rodent infestation due to the use of soy-based wire coating, which rodents find particularly tasty. This can lead to nesting and damage to the vehicle's electrical system.
  • Faulty Throttle Position Switch: The throttle position sensor (TPS) in the Kia Cadenza regulates the appropriate mix of fuel and air that gets sent into the engine. A faulty TPS can cause problems with the vehicle's acceleration and overall performance.
  • Starting Difficulty: Some Kia Cadenza models, particularly the 2002-2016 Sedona and 2004-2009 Amanti, may experience issues starting due to a malfunctioning anti-theft control module. This can cause the vehicle immobilizer control module to trigger, preventing the car from starting.
  • Engine Failure: Engine problems account for up to 35% of all Kia complaints filed with CarComplaints, with the Sorento, Optima, and Sportage being the most affected models. Kia Cadenza models from 2014 to 2020 have been reported to have engine failure issues, which can occur while the vehicle is in motion. In August 2023, Kia and Hyundai issued a recall for a faulty oil pump that can lead to engine and vehicle fire, affecting certain models of the Kia Seltos, Soul, and Sportage.
  • Fire Risk: Hyundai and Kia have been plagued by fire problems since 2015, with more than 9.2 million vehicles recalled, including the Kia Cadenza. In November 2022, the companies recalled nearly 3.4 million vehicles due to fire risk, urging owners to park them outside until repairs are done. The recalls cover multiple car and SUV models from the 2010 through 2019 model years, including the Kia Cadenza. The issue is related to the anti-lock brake control module, which can leak fluid and cause an electrical short, potentially leading to a fire.

Why did Kia discontinue the Cadenza?

Negative 2019 Kia Cadenza car reviews

  1. Brendon Klocko 2024-09-20

I have experienced some issues with my car radio, which tends to go out when I hit a bump and then turns back on when I hit another bump. Unfortunately, the radio has been in service over 16 times and the manufacturer warranty does not cover this issue. Additionally, the brake calipers rusted out at 30k miles, which was also not covered by the warranty. I have spoken with other Kia owners who have experienced similar problems. While the Kia service center charges for repairs, the problems still persist. When I leased the vehicle, I had some concerns about the pricing, but my salesman was able to work with me to find a monthly payment that I was comfortable with. Overall, the car looks good, but I have had some issues with it.

  2. Marques Kautzer 2024-08-29

Despite the initial quality award for the segment, my car has been experiencing several issues since I first got it. The door rattles, the dashboard makes noises in the heat, and occasionally the temperature gauge shows an exterior temperature of 32 degrees even when it's well over 70. Additionally, the rear camera stays on ten seconds past pushing the car out of reverse into drive. While the car handles okay, the acceleration is poor. On the positive side, the car makes excellent use of space and has a nice panoramic roof. However, I am disappointed that there are no SMS notifications in the infotainment system, which my last two cars had. This being my first Kia, I had high expectations, but unfortunately, it did not meet them. I have decided that this will be my last Kia. Despite my initial debate between a 2 and 3 year lease, I am glad I went with the two-year option.

  3. Wilton Reinger 2024-05-12

I've been driving my 2017 Cadenza for almost two years now. While it has a good engine, transmission, and most luxury-car level features, I've had some issues with it as it has aged. The pano sunroof rattles loudly and the infotainment system has several gremlins. Additionally, the ride is not as smooth as I would like and the tires are not suitable for winter weather driving, which can be scary. I initially leased the car because Consumer Reports gave it a very high rating (80+), but unfortunately, the rating has since plummeted into the low 60s. I have decided that I will not be getting another sedan from Kia. I am patiently waiting to turn it in at the end of the lease, which is in September 2020. Although the depreciation is quite high, I am looking forward to exploring other options.

  4. Bud Fadel 2024-03-09

I bought a Cadenza and loved it, but unfortunately, my phone never worked properly. Despite trying many solutions since the day I bought it, I was told that it was my phone causing the issue. As someone who works in the healthcare field and relies on hands-free communication while driving, this was a major requirement for me. After many attempts to fix the issue, the manager informed me that it was a known problem with several Cadenza models and that Kia was not willing to address it until someone was hurt. At that point, we had two Kia vehicles, but we returned one and sold the other. I would not consider purchasing a vehicle from a company that does not stand behind their product.

  5. Milford Schoen 2024-02-02

I've owned my 2017 Cadenza for about two years and it has been quite reliable with no major issues. Although, I did have to take it in for two minor sensor failures due to factory recalls. The pano sunroof tends to rattle when open or in the vent position, but it's not a major issue. However, I'm ready to move on from this car as I prefer higher-riding vehicles. The ride quality is not the best and winter driving can be challenging due to the tires. Nonetheless, it would make a great used car for its next owner as Korean cars tend to depreciate quickly. On a positive note, I recently upgraded to a 2020 Lexus NX which I absolutely love. Goodbye to Kia and sedans!

Positive 2019 Kia Cadenza car reviews

  1. Erick Veum 2024-11-10

My opinion on the 2019 Kia Cadenza remains unchanged. I absolutely love this car - it's comfortable, loaded with safety features, and drives like a dream. I've owned it for over a year now and have had no issues other than regular maintenance. As I mentioned in my previous review, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Cadenza.

  2. Elbert Nienow 2024-10-18

The Cadenza is an absolute joy to drive. It offers all the benefits of a luxury car at an affordable price point. If you prefer a larger car, this is the perfect choice for you. However, if you're used to driving something smaller, it may take some getting used to. The 2017 technology in this car is truly impressive and the comfort and safety features are top-notch. As someone who has owned Audis, Cadillacs, Acuras, and BMWs, I can confidently say that the Cadenza is the best car I have ever owned. I highly recommend taking one for a test drive and experiencing it for yourself. You won't regret it!

  3. Chet Conroy 2024-10-08

Hey there! Have you considered checking out Kia's?

  4. Aaron Goodwin 2024-07-15

The car is fantastic! It's very clean and has low miles. It's an excellent sedan that won't break the bank when it comes to insurance.

  5. Dayton Hansen 2024-07-09

This limited trim has a classy design for both the exterior and interior. The quality is obvious when you look inside and sit. The black exterior always draws compliments since the day I bought it over 4 years ago. It is best for long drives or cargo, as it is wide and big in the back. Unfortunately, there are no folding rear seats for the trunk. Additionally, it steers like a full-size sedan and is not easy to see all around, but it has all the sensors and more. I especially like the heads-up view of the speed on the front windshield, and the posted speed limits also show next to it. The sound system has a digital sound enhancement that really works well. It has everything the Audi and Mercedes have and more.
