The medium-duty version of the Ford F-Series is a range of commercial trucks manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1948. Derived from the smaller F-Series pickup trucks, the medium-duty range is currently in its eighth generation. Initially slotted between the F-Series pickup trucks and the "Big Job" conventionals, later generations were slotted below the L-Series "Louisville" trucks; the last two generations are the largest vehicles produced by Ford since its exit from the heavy-truck segment.

The medium-duty F-Series has been used for an extensive number of applications, offered as a straight (rigid) truck and a truck-tractor (for semitrailers) in multiple cab configurations. Prior to the production of the Ford C-Series, the model line was also offered in a cab-over engine (COE) configuration; a cowled-chassis variant (the Ford B-series) was used for bus production.

For the 2000 model year, the medium-duty F-Series has been branded as part of the Ford Super Duty range, consisting of the Class 6–7 Ford F-650 and F-750; Class 8 versions of the F-750 have been produced since 2011. The current generation of the medium-duty F-Series is manufactured by Ford in its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), replacing a joint venture with Navistar International named Blue Diamond Truck Company LLC located in General Escobedo, Mexico.

Common Ford F700 problems

Based on the search results, there are several common problems with the Ford F700, which include fuel-related issues, idling problems, and issues with the diesel engine.

Fuel-Related Issues

One common problem with the Ford F700 is fuel draining back into the tank from the fuel pump. This issue can cause the engine to not turn over, as reported by the previous owner of the truck. A fuel pump change would be a fairly easy job, with only two bolts and a gasket required for replacement. However, a leak of some kind is suspected, which could be causing the fuel to drain back into the tank.

Idling Problems

The Ford F700 can experience idling problems, especially when under heavy load. This issue can cause the truck to start coughing and will not accelerate, as reported by one owner. The problem can be intermittent at first but can become more frequent over time. The issue can be caused by a faulty oxygen sensor or a catalytic converter that needs to be replaced.

Diesel Engine Issues

The Ford F700 can also experience issues with the diesel engine, especially with the 6.6L 401ci diesel engine. One owner reported that the truck shows 109,000 on the odometer and is wondering what to expect from this engine. The 6.6L 401ci diesel engine is known for its reliability and durability, but it is essential to maintain it properly to ensure its longevity.

In summary, the Ford F700 can experience several common problems, including fuel-related issues, idling problems, and issues with the diesel engine. Regular maintenance and inspection can help prevent these issues from becoming more significant problems, and prompt attention to any issues can help ensure the longevity and reliability of the truck.
