The third generation of the C/K series is a range of trucks that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1973 to 1991 model years. Serving as the replacement for the "Action Line" C/K trucks, GM designated the generation under "Rounded Line" moniker. Again offered as a two-door pickup truck and chassis cab, the Rounded Line trucks marked the introduction of a four-door cab configuration.

Marketed under the Chevrolet and GMC brands, the Rounded Line C/K chassis also served as the basis of GM full-size SUVs, including the Chevrolet/GMC Suburban wagon and the off-road oriented Chevrolet K5 Blazer/GMC Jimmy. The generation also shared body commonality with GM medium-duty commercial trucks.

In early 1987, GM introduced the 1988 fourth-generation C/K to replace the Rounded Line generation, with the company beginning a multi-year transition between the two generations. To eliminate model overlap, the Rounded Line C/K was renamed the R/V series, which remained as a basis for full-size SUVs and heavier-duty pickup trucks. After an 18-year production run (exceeded only in longevity by the Dodge D/W-series/Ram pickup and the Jeep Gladiator/Pickup), the Rounded Line generation was retired after the 1991 model year.

From 1972 to 1991, General Motors produced the Rounded Line C/K (later R/V) series in multiple facilities across the United States and Canada. In South America, the model line was produced in Argentina and Brazil, ending in 1997.

Common 1991 Chevrolet C20 problems

The Chevrolet C20 1991, like any other vehicle, is not immune to various issues. One of the most common problems reported by owners is ignition switch problems. These problems can lead to difficulties starting the truck or cause it to stall unexpectedly. The ignition switch may also be responsible for erratic behavior of dashboard lights and issues with accessories such as the radio or power windows.

To detect ignition switch problems, one should look out for signs like difficulty starting the truck, stalling while driving, or flickering dashboard lights. Testing the ignition switch with a multimeter can confirm the issue. If the readings do not change as the key is turned through its positions, it indicates a malfunctioning ignition switch that needs attention.

Repairing or replacing the ignition switch are the two options for addressing this problem. Repairing may involve cleaning the contacts or addressing minor issues, while replacing means getting a new ignition switch. To replace the ignition switch, disconnect the battery, remove the old switch, and install the new one according to the vehicle's manual or manufacturer's instructions. Ensure all connections are secure, and test the new switch to confirm the problem is resolved.

Preventive measures to keep the ignition switch in good condition include regularly cleaning the key, avoiding excessive force when turning the key, and following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule for the vehicle's electrical system. Regular maintenance can prevent further damage and keep the ignition switch functioning correctly.

Why does my 1990 Chevy truck bog down when accelerating?

In my experience bogs are often due to a fuel problem (e.g. fuel pump) or clogged cat. If no codes, measure the fuel pressure, see if it is ok at idle or it drops when this happens, and if that's ok try temporarily disconnecting or bypassing the cat.

Though initially the C10 and C20 sported nearly identical engine options, that changed, and by the early 1980s, the C20 often had two or three additional larger engines, including a big 7.4L engine that included the floating rear suspension.
