Cadillac Lyriq problems
The Cadillac Lyriq (stylized LYRIQ) is an electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by the Cadillac subdivision of General Motors. As Cadillac's first fully electric vehicle, and the first GM production vehicle using the BEV3 platform, the Lyriq introduces a new version of GM's Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.
Assembled at Spring Hill Manufacturing in Spring Hill, Tennessee for North America and at a new EV-only plant in Yantai, China for Asia, Cadillac started accepting customer orders for the 2023 Lyriq in the United States in May 2022.
History
At the 2019 North American International Auto Show, CEO Mary Barra presented several details about the group's upcoming series of EVs, which included a crossover from Cadillac. The name Lyriq follows a pattern of several prior Cadillac concept vehicles, including the Evoq, Provoq, and Celestiq, all ending in "q".
Cadillac originally planned for a US-market presentation of the Lyriq (as a "show car" or concept car) on April 2, 2020, followed by a launch soon thereafter for the 2021 model year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed to August 6. Production of the Lyriq was also delayed to early 2022. Chinese and Asian market production at a new plant at Shanghai GM's Yantai complex built for Ultium will start slightly before Spring Hill starts Lyriq assembly for North America.
Following the public debut of the Lyriq show car at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, the production version was presented on April 21, 2021.
Batteries for both Yantai and Spring Hill production will be sourced from LG Chem, with Spring Hill initially getting pouch-type Ultium cells from an LG Chem plant in South Korea. This will be done until GM and LG Chem expand Spring Hill to accommodate Ultium battery production for both domestic use and exports to Mexico. According to Cadillac, all the interior components were newly designed for the Lyriq and no pre-existing GM parts were used.
The Lyriq was first delivered to American dealerships in the highest demand markets of New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit in the first week of July 2022. GM delivered a total of 122 Lyriqs to U.S. customers in 2022.
On November 15, 2023, Cadillac confirmed it will launch the Lyriq in Australia in late 2024.
For the 2024 model year, EPA range estimates for the dual motor models increased from 312 miles (502 km) to 314 miles (505 km). Additionally, a new $1200 OTA update for the dual motor models increases the torque output and allows for a reduction in 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) times from 4.7 to 4.4 seconds. A more conventional door access system was implemented, with remote activated flush pop-out handles replacing an electronic unlatch button which lacked discrete handles.

Common Cadillac Lyriq problems
The Cadillac Lyriq, a luxury electric SUV, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include reliability concerns, technology glitches, and safety concerns.
Reliability is a significant issue for the Cadillac Lyriq, with many owners reporting frequent trips to the service bay. One owner reported that their vehicle had spent one out of two weeks in service, with issues such as a driver assist system failure, a malfunctioning trunk, a non-functioning interior wireless charger, misaligned door handles, and difficulty charging on any charger but a DC fast charger.
Technology glitches are also a common problem for the Cadillac Lyriq. One owner reported that their vehicle's radio stopped working, while another reported that the SuperCruise download opened a "Pandora's Box" of issues, including the vehicle being in the service bay for six straight weeks.
Safety is a significant concern for the Cadillac Lyriq, with reports of hard brake pedals followed by "Brake System Failure" messages in the electric vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into these reports, which have been linked to a fractured internal spindle in the electronic control module, known as eBoost. This issue can cause the vehicle to lose brake assist, suffer from speed limitation problems, and lose certain functions in the ABS system.
In summary, the Cadillac Lyriq has been reported to have several common problems, including reliability concerns, technology glitches, and safety issues. These problems have led to frequent trips to the service bay for many owners, with some reporting that their vehicles have been in the service bay for several weeks at a time. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into safety concerns related to the vehicle's brake system.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-20
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-21
- VIN: 1GYKPPRL2RZ
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: Ref: NHTSA ID# 24V589/ GM Recall N242453471 Record shows that the above recall was completed on August 27, 2024. Yesterday while I was reversing my 2024 LYRIQ out of my garage I experienced multiple false automatic braking. Braking was so frequent that, I thought, driving that car at that time was unsafe and pulled it back into the garage and took my other car. It was raining at that time. False braking has happened in the past but not to a point where driving is nearly impossible.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-26
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-01
- VIN: 1GYKPSRL6RZ
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: Each time it rains and the car is in reverse, the emergency braking system kicks in repeatedly, and a red light flashes on the screen. The car believes there is an object or person behind the car; I would imagine because the rear camera can see the rain. It is difficult to even move the car at all, and is a major safety concern. The last time this occurred, I was backing out of my driveway at a slow speed. This also occurred backing out of a parking spot at a slow speed. I hesitate to drive this car in rain because of the issue. In speaking with the dealership's repair personnel, this occurs on every Lyriq. In fact, there was another Lyriq in for that complaint at the same time. I cannot attach photos or a video, as doing so would be unsafe. However, it can be easily re-created in any Lyriq.

- Date Complaint: 2024-09-06
- VIN: 1GYKPSRK4RZ
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Continuing problem with both front and rear emergency braking. Primarily when it is raining and vehicle is put in reverse violent and unexpected emergency braking will occur for no apparent reason. This will happen several times. Also, when backing out of driveway on a slant, rear emergency braking seems to sense the street and brakes are applied violently. This situation has also happened going into driveway on a slant for front emergency braking. Have informed the dealer several times of this problem and they say that Cadillac has not fix. Very distressing and dangerous for whip lash of adults and children.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-03
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-05
- VIN: 1GYKPWRL5RZ
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I have had two incidents with the automatic braking system occur in a short period of time. The Lyriq is not a car that I drive very often so when the incidents occurred in the last 2 of the 3 times of driving the car it makes me scared to drive the car again. The first incident occurred while driving at approximately 35 mph. The road I was on had 4 lanes with a turn lane in the middle dividing the 4 lanes with 2 lanes on each side of the turn lane. The road carries moderately heavy traffic as it has many businesses (fast food restaurants, strip malls, etc.) I was driving in the left lane when a truck in the on coming traffic entered the middle turn lane and a vehicle ahead of me entered the lane to the right of me. Neither vehicle crossed the line of the lane I was in. This is normal traffic for the type of road I was on. I know there have been reports of rain interfering with sensors in the past, but this day was clear. My vehicle flashed a red collision warning and engaged the automatic braking system. This was scary as heck. It was very jarring to me and my passenger. Next incident I was parking along a curb. So this time I was driving under 10 mph. I was backing up and there was a hand rail along on a walkway on the curb. There was no way I would hit the railing as it was several feet from the roadway. There was no warning in my car when it engaged the automatic braking system. Even though I wasn’t traveling very fast it was very jarring and my neck was still hurting from the last incident when it engaged the automatic braking. When the car engages the automatic braking system it sounds as though it has hit something or someone has hit you. It’s very confusing. I reported previous incidents to my dealer and they said that the sensors were sensitive and they supposedly did some sort of fix, but frankly I’m concerned what could happen as these incidents have quite seriously been a pain in the neck for me.
Cadillac Lyriq 2024
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-24
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-03
- VIN: 1GYKPRRK1RZ
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I purchased a brand new Cadillac Lyriq on July 1, 2024, and have encountered several severe issues that compromise the safety and reliability of the vehicle: 1.Display Failure: The display frequently flickers, flashes, and sometimes completely blacks out, causing the loss of critical information such as speed, backup camera, navigation, and other vital systems. This makes the vehicle unsafe to drive, as it is impossible to monitor speed and other essential functions necessary for safe operation. 2.Battery Overheating During DC Fast Charging: The vehicle’s battery consistently overheats during DC fast charging sessions, causing the charge rate to drop significantly (from ~190 kW down to 14-20 kW). This overheating issue not only drastically extends charging times but also raises serious safety concerns, particularly during long road trips in hot weather. The vehicle has repeatedly experienced these issues, making it unreliable for long-distance travel. 3.Charger Overheating and Instability During Home AC Charging: The home AC charger provided with the vehicle becomes excessively hot while charging the Lyriq. Additionally, the charging rate fluctuates erratically between 0-3 kW, further complicating the charging process. This overheating of the charger at home raises concerns about the safety of parking or charging the vehicle in my garage, as it may pose a fire risk. These issues have been reported to my dealership, who have attempted repairs without success. The problems persist, and the vehicle remains unsafe and unreliable for my family’s needs. I am deeply concerned about the potential for these issues to lead to more severe safety incidents if not addressed promptly.

- Summary: Vehicle engage emergency stop in forward direction for no apparent reason. Leaving dead stop 2nd car at traffic signal. Huge problem as may cause rear end collision. I have disengaged all auto brake features. Had previously already disabled reverse auto braking feature. I was at a residential intersection. Single lane each direction with left turn lane. I was the 2nd vehicle in line. There was a crosswalk however there were no pedestrians, bicycles, etc. in the crosswalk or on any sidewalks of roadways. The left turn green arrow illuminated and the vehicle in front began turning. I began to follow and reached no more than 5-10 mph when "bang", the emergency stop engaged. I actually thought I hit a pole or object. Terrifying for my wife in the passenger seat also. The vehicle behind us was able to stop in time, this time. However, drivers do not expect the vehicle in front of them to begin moving the emergency brake for no reason. This is a dangerous defect which must be addressed.

Vehicle year: 2024
I'll keep it brief - the exterior and interior styling is terrific, and the acceleration is very peppy. The one pedal driving and paddles on the steering wheel extend the range impressively. All software updates so far have loaded perfectly while stopped in the garage. The charging rate is exactly as advertised using the electrician installed ChargePoint Home Flex (25 miles added per hour at 32 amps). I just plug it in when I get home for the evening and the range is around 50%. No big deal. SuperCruise is really good - way better than my previous BMW driver assist. There are some nuisance things like the garage door opening buried on a low level of the screen, but they will eventually get fixed. If you're considering buying a first year limited production introductory vehicle and think it will be without issues, you might want to rethink the decision. But overall, it's a great car to drive. I actually prefer it over my wife's Cadillac CT6.

I'm glad to share that I can easily squeeze 300 miles out of my SUV. I have the 2023 AWD version and, besides some initial minor glitches (which are expected on a first-year model), this car drives exceptionally well.

Vehicle year: 2024
I completely agree that this is one of the finest vehicles I've ever owned. It drives so smoothly and has power to spare. The comfort level is comparable to the best Lexus SUV, and I couldn't agree more with the comparison to the Mercedes Benz of SUV EVs. The fit and finish is immaculate, and I believe the range rating is underestimated. I primarily use the charger that came with the car and can get a 100% level 2 charge overnight if needed. I also appreciate the ability to set a charging schedule to take advantage of lower rates. Overall, I think this SUV EV is the one to get and I highly recommend it.

Overall very satisfied with test drive. However, the vent knobs in the interior were a poor choice for such a nice and sleek vehicle. The car drives great, with excellent pick up and a quiet ride. It is definitely a strong contender.

I purchased a 2004 Cadillac Lyriq in July. Unfortunately, upon driving out of the dealer, I discovered that the OnStar system was broken. However, the dealer was able to fix the issue within two weeks. Later, during a trip to Tampa, FL, I encountered an issue where the car would not charge at a SuperCharger in Ft. Myers. I took it to the local dealer, but they were unable to identify the issue. They reset the computer, which temporarily fixed the issue, and advised me to follow up with my local dealer in Miami. Upon returning to Miami, I took the car to the local dealer who fixed the issue within two weeks. Unfortunately, a few months later, I had to return to the dealer due to a faulty turn signal and gap control between cars while on cruise control. The computer screen also occasionally turned blank and listed numerous errors on the screen. Despite these issues, the car is beautiful. However, I regret purchasing a Lyriq as it is poorly crafted and not worth the money and aggravation.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2023 Lyriq. Unfortunately, I've had to take it in for repairs three times in the past six months and it seems like there are software updates quite frequently. In my opinion, it may not be quite ready for prime time yet.

The car was initially a pleasure to drive and ride in, but unfortunately, it stopped working after just two weeks. I had it towed to the Myrtle Beach dealership, where I encountered friendly staff. However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to fix the issue with the battery and could not provide me with a clear timeline for when it would be resolved. I have requested a refund or a replacement vehicle, but both GM and the dealership have not been very accommodating. The car has been sitting at the dealership for over two weeks now, and I am feeling disappointed and frustrated. It seems that GM is not adequately equipped to handle the technology involved in this car, and they knowingly sold me a faulty product. I was promised a call from someone named “Chris” (EV Concierge) last week, but unfortunately, I have not heard from them. As a customer, I feel let down by GM's lack of concern for their product and their customers.
