Cadillac Catera problems
The Cadillac Catera is a four-door, five passenger, rear-wheel drive luxury sedan marketed from 1996 until 2001 by Cadillac over a single generation in the United States and Canada. As a rebadged variant of the Opel Omega B, the Catera was manufactured by Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and was underpinned by GM's V-body platform. Approximately 95,000 units were built and sold over five model years.
History
The Catera was previewed at the Detroit Auto Show in 1994 as the Cadillac LSE concept, proposed by Cadillac as an entry-level model that would compete with sedans from Acura, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Jaguar, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz.
In 1996, an early-production model was shown at the Detroit, Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto auto shows. Cadillac began marketing the Catera in the United States in the fall of 1996 as a 1997 model with a base price of $29,995 (equivalent to $58,300 in 2023).
Some of the standard features on the Catera included a cloth interior, front bucket seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, AM/FM stereo radio with cassette player and eight-speaker sound system, airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, keyless entry, security system, alloy wheels, compact spare tire, and full instrumentation. Optional equipment included leather interior, heated seats, cassette player and CD player combination, Bose premium sound system, power sunroof, Homelink, OnStar, and chrome wheels.
A Sport model was offered beginning in 1999 with eight-way power adjustable seats, heated front seats, 17-inch wheels, driver's seat memory, audible theft-deterrent system, three-channel garage door opener, high-intensity discharge headlamps, and a rear spoiler.
The Catera received a facelift in 2000 with revised nose, tail, wheels, interior trim, mirrors, optional HID headlamps, stiffer suspension settings, and side airbags.
The model's engine was a 200 hp (149 kW) L81 54° DOHC V6 manufactured in England at GM's Ellesmere Port facility, using an FR layout. The GM 4L30-E automatic transmission was manufactured at GM's plant in Strasbourg, France.

SHE WANTS TO CHARGE A DIAGNOSTIC FEE INSTEAD OF MAKING THE PERMANENT CORRECTION OF EXCHANGING THE CORRECT THE DEVICE, PROPERLY ONCE AND FOR ALL. I TOLD HER I WOULD CONTACT NHTSA. I ALSO ASKED HER TO SEND A MESSAGE TO CADILLAC/ GM'S LEGAL AND I AM INFORMING MY LAWYER THAT IF I SHOULD DIE, OPERATING THIS VEHICLE, THAT I MY CHILDREN SHOULD FILE A WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUIT AGAINST ALL INVOLVED. I DO NOT KNOW THE EXACT DATE OF THE LAST OCCURRENCE BUT I ALSO HAD A OIL CHANGE WHICH I THINK IS THE LATE FALL OF 2011. I AM A DISABLED PERSON WHO CAN'T BE EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS FOR VERY LONG. I found instantly after driving this vehicle that you cannot judge a book by its cover. It surprised me how roomy the interior was. I thought it would be slow, but it had an excellent take off speed. It rode as if I was riding on a cloud.

I love driving this car! It's so comfortable and stylish, and I always get tons of compliments on it. The Bose 8 speaker sound system is definitely one of the best factory systems out there - I've heard many, but this one really stands out. I've had the car for over a year now and, aside from a recall item, it's been smooth sailing. However, I have heard of some mechanical problems, so it's something to keep in mind. Overall, I would definitely recommend this car, but just be aware of potential repair costs.

I was pleasantly surprised by this car, especially since I had not had a lot of problems with my sedan. A few years back, I bought this used with 48,000 miles on it after I couldn't afford to get my older 7 series BMW fixed. When driving down the interstate, I sometimes forgot I wasn't in my BMW because the Catera gripped the road like a small series BMW. Despite being a tall man standing at 6'4, I found that I fit comfortably in the car, which was a pleasant surprise. However, I have noticed that some GM mechanics have a hard time working on my car because it's German-made, so I've been taking it to my BMW mechanic who feels right at home. I've been servicing this car on a regular basis and I'm soon approaching 100,000 miles!

I bought this car with 20,000 miles on it two years ago. Unfortunately, I have had to take it to two different dealerships over 15 times since then. The car has cut out at stop lights and signs over four times and has refused to start. Additionally, the check engine light has been on, the seat heat stopped working, the power moon roof wouldn't open, the power window stopped working, the coolant tank leaked, and the brake light switch was defective, so there were no brake lights. Despite these issues, the car is fun to drive when it works. However, my warranty has just expired, so I am in the process of looking for another car. It's not a minute too soon because as of this morning, the car is stuck in my garage and refuses to start.

I had a disappointing experience with my previous vehicle, which required frequent visits to the dealership. The heated seat on the driver's side caused damage to both the leather and my jacket, but fortunately, GM replaced them. However, the dealership did not seem to prioritize my concerns. The steering rod ends had a short lifespan of only 45K miles, which also affected the longevity of my tires. Additionally, the check engine light came on every two weeks, and the transmission module failed, which was a costly $650.00 fix. As a result, I decided to trade in my Cadillac, which had depreciated by $15000 in just three years, for a Toyota. I have lost confidence in GM and will not be purchasing from them again.

The vehicle has not met my expectations in terms of quality. I have experienced several issues, including door hinge straps coming unwelded from door frames, a cigarette lighter falling out of the console, broken cup holders upon first use, stereo speaker covers falling off, a coolant leak somewhere near the intake manifold, a battery that goes dead when the vehicle sits unused for more than 2 days, and wheel jack & tools made from cheap materials that bent into an unusable shape. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my assessment of the vehicle and believe that improvements can be made to enhance its overall quality.

My first car turned out to be a lemon and caused a lot of stress for my mother and me. It looked like a nice, clean Cadillac that wouldn't cost me much, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. I'm finally trading it in to get rid of this burden. The engine repair cost me $2000, and then I had to fix the brakes, tires, and transmission, which had to be injected into the engine, costing even more money. The sunroof only works when it wants to, and the back wheel drive is terrible, especially in snow and ice. The power locks on the driver's side went out, and on top of all that, the gas mileage is terrible. I strongly advise against buying this car. It has caused me nothing but trouble.
