The Opel Cascada is a four-passenger fabric-roof convertible, manufactured and marketed by Opel across a single generation for model years 2013-2019, prioritizing year-round touring comfort over sportiness.

Nearly identical badge engineered variants were marketed globally using the Cascada nameplate under four General Motors brands: Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Buick — and the Opel Cabrio nameplate in Spain.

The 2+2 convertible was engineered at Opel's International Technical Engineering Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and was styled under the direction of Mark Adams, head of Opel design, at Opel's Rüsselsheim Design Center — with Andrew Dyson (exterior) and Elizabeth Wetzel (interior).

After debuting at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show, the brand variants were manufactured in Gliwice, Poland, up until assembly ended on 28 June 2019 — with a combined total of 48,500 produced and the final Cascada manufactured for the US market.

The Cascada derives its name from the Spanish word for waterfall.

Common 2018 Buick Cascada problems

The 2018 Buick Cascada has received some complaints from owners, primarily related to electrical issues and the convertible top.

One of the most common problems is the failure of the front collision system, which is intended to enhance safe driving by lighting up and sounding an alarm when approaching another vehicle too quickly. However, some owners have reported that the system fails to activate, and the indicator doesn't change from green to amber when nearing another car, which is a serious safety issue.

Another issue that some owners have faced is the convertible top not retracting when using a key fob. Some users have experienced an issue where the convertible top would not come down when pressing and holding the unlock button on the key fob. This issue can be frustrating, especially during hot weather or when the driver wants to enjoy the open-air driving experience.

In addition to these issues, some owners have reported electrical problems with the infotainment system. For instance, a recent buyer of a 2017 Cascada experienced an infotainment system freeze after driving about 62 miles. The navigation, time, and music stopped working, and despite pressing all buttons, the system only resumed after about 15 minutes. The owner, who was using a USB for music, was uncertain if this contributed to the issue.

While these issues can be frustrating and annoying, they do not seem to be widespread or severe enough to significantly impact the overall reliability of the 2018 Buick Cascada. However, potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

Nice car! The price is great too. Although, the engine might be a bit noisy and not as powerful as some others.

Positive 2018 Buick Cascada car reviews

  1. Kristian Bartoletti 2024-11-11

I recently purchased a 2018 Buick Cascada and I must say, it is incredibly comfortable. The performance is smooth and it has plenty of pick up. The colors are very nice and the workmanship is of high quality, making it a safe choice. Unlike other convertibles that sit low to the ground like a Corvette, the Cascada sits up nicely. It also outprices the Mercedes, Audi, and BMW. In my opinion, the Buick Cascada is a better choice due to its better view and overall quality. It truly stands out from the other imports in the real world.

  2. Abelardo Gleichner 2024-11-05

The Cascada is a fantastic convertible that is often overlooked in the USA. It handles corners like a sports car and has a great interior design with high-quality materials. While the acceleration may not be on par with a sports car, it is still very quick. Although the interior is a bit tight and rear visibility can be a challenge with the top up, these are minor issues. The controls can be a bit fussy and complicated, but overall, this car is a gem, especially considering its price. It has a great look and is definitely not your grandmother's Buick! I would definitely buy it again.

  3. Jesse Romaguera 2024-10-27

I am confident in stating that this car is truly great and garners admiration wherever it goes. It is worth noting that some may not be aware that it is a Buick. Despite the unfortunate fact that the air has failed at 32000 miles, which is out of warranty, a freon replacement alone costs $700.00, not including parts. I am hopeful that GM will assist me with the necessary repairs.

I've been eyeing one of these since I first saw it on the road back in 2016. I've always been a fan of convertibles and had planned on getting one once my 06 Solara rag top gave out. But, being a Toyota, it's still going strong. In January 2020, I was devastated to hear that they had discontinued the Cascada. I called my local Buick dealer and they had a brass hat vehicle with only 250 miles on it, marked down $6k from the sticker price. I was disappointed when I saw it because it had a burgundy roof that I didn't like. Unfortunately, there were no other new Cascadas available as they had all been sold. I figured it wasn't meant to be. Fast forward a few months and I stumbled upon a beautiful red 2017 model with only 11k miles on it. It was in pristine condition, especially the interior which was flawless. There were a few minor rock chips on the paint, but nothing major. I bought it and have been happy ever since. It really is a stunning car. When I first researched the Cascada, I noticed a big difference between the professional reviews and those of actual owners. Most owners loved it, while most pros passed on it. As an owner, I definitely fall into the love category. Most of the criticisms about poor acceleration or handling, dated interior, buttons, etc. are so overstated. Is it cutting edge? No, but who cares? It's a fun car. Dropping the top is what it's all about, and this car does it well. If you're a serious convertible fan, you already know the drawbacks of owning one, namely poor visibility with the top up. Seriously, get a blind spot mirror - they work wonders and I trust them more than some sensor. Being the fourth convertible I've owned, I have to say that it has the least amount of cowl shake (a feeling like the body of the car is twisting over rough surfaces). They did a great job stiffening up the body of this car. Of course, the ride is a bit rougher, but it's all about trade-offs, I guess. If you're considering buying one of these cars used, don't hesitate! It's a great car for what it is - fun!

We have a lot of experience with other convertibles such as BMW, Miata, and Mini, but this one is by far the most desirable. It feels great on both the highway and city driving. Although it feels a little heavier, I believe it's a positive for a convertible. Additionally, we have not encountered any mechanical issues despite driving above average mileage on our vehicles. This is my wife's daily driver, and when she is happy, everyone is happy. We have been enjoying it for 3 years and counting.
