2015 Bmw 740ld problems
The sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series consists of the BMW G11 (normal version) and BMW G12 (long-wheelbase version) luxury saloons. The G11/G12 generation was produced by BMW from 2015 to 2022, and is often collectively referred to as the G11.
The G11 was unveiled on 10 June 2015 at BMW's headquarters in Munich. An official public reveal took place at the 2015 International Motor Show Germany. This generation of the 7 Series is the first car lineup of BMW to be based on the CLAR platform. The CLAR platform adopts technology first introduced in BMW i models, namely the introduction of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer as structural chassis components. Long-wheelbase cars have the letter "L" in their model name.
As part of BMW's strategy of introducing plug-in hybrid variants for all future car models, the normal and long-wheelbase models were available with hybrid powertrains as 740e and 740Le in 2016.

Common 2015 Bmw 740ld problems
The 2015 BMW 740Ld xDrive is a diesel-powered luxury sedan that has gained popularity in the U.S. market, especially among those who value fuel economy and low-end torque. However, like any other vehicle, it is not without its common problems, which are discussed below.
- EGR/MAF Issues: Another common problem with diesel engines is issues with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors. These sensors can become clogged with carbon and other debris, leading to reduced performance and fuel efficiency. It is unclear whether the 740Ld has been affected by these issues.
- Urea Crystallization within the Exhaust System and DPF: Urea crystallization within the exhaust system and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is another common problem with diesel engines. This can lead to reduced performance and increased emissions. It is unclear whether the 740Ld has been affected by these issues.
- Harmonic Balancer: The N57 diesel engine used in the 740Ld has been known to have issues with the harmonic balancer, which can shred every 60,000 miles. It is recommended to replace the harmonic balancer every 60,000 miles to avoid this issue.
- Glow Plug Relay: It is recommended to carry a spare glow plug relay in the trunk, as the glow plug relay can fail in the 740Ld's N57 diesel engine.
- Swirl Flaps and Intake Manifold: The swirl flaps and intake manifold can become gunged up in the N57 diesel engine, leading to reduced performance and fuel efficiency. It is possible to fix this issue by installing a fresh intake manifold at home in an evening.
- Electrical Components and Body Panels: Electrical components, body panels, and even some of the coveted M Sport bits are all fairly available if you shop around. However, it is unclear whether the 740Ld has been affected by any electrical issues.
- Fuel Prices: The $1500 premium for the 740Ld xDrive over its gasoline counterpart is a modest amount, but that sum will take considerably longer to recoup in fuel savings as long as current diesel prices in the U.S. remain higher than gasoline’s. (At this writing, diesel averages 57 cents per gallon higher than regular unleaded).
It is important to note that the 740Ld is a rare and strange vehicle, and its ideal use case is extended interstate slogs. While it may not be the most reliable vehicle, it is a unique and interesting option for those who value its unique characteristics.

2015 Bmw 740ld recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2015 Bmw 740ld.
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon, 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV, and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV diesel vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. The EGR cooler may leak internally, causing coolant to mix with diesel engine soot, which could result in smoldering particles and a melting intake manifold.
- Consequence: A melting intake manifold increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the EGR cooler and inspect the intake manifold, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. This recall includes all vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755. Vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755 will need to have the new remedy performed for this recall. An interim owner notification letter was mailed on January 18, 2022. The remedy is expected to be available in June 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 6, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2014-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, X5 xDrive35d, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, and 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d vehicles. The high-pressure fuel pump may fail.
- Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 14, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
- Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)
- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 BMW 328d and 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon and 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d and 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. If the EGR cooler leaks internally, the coolant can mix with diesel engine soot. The high EGR temperatures may result in these particles possibly smoldering and melting the intake manifold.
- Consequence: The melting intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the EGR cooler as necessary. If a leak has already occurred, the engine intake manifold will also be replaced. These repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began May 13, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
