Alfa romeo Stelvio problems
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio (Type 949) is a car produced by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo since 2016. As a D-segment model it slots above the smaller Tonale model in the marque's SUV range. A large SUV, it was first revealed at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, introduced by a 60" short film directed by Louis Sebastian Pane, and entered production at the Cassino Plant at the end of 2016. In 2018 it was Alfa Romeo's best-selling model, with roughly 43,000 sold that year.
The Stelvio uses FCA's Giorgio platform, shared with the D-segment Giulia saloon. The name Stelvio derives from the Stelvio Pass, Italy's highest mountain pass, noted for its 48 circuitous switchbacks.
Characteristics
The Stelvio uses the same Giorgio platform already used by the Giulia, but slightly modified and raised by 22 cm (8.7 in). The Stelvio also shares the same engines and most of the mechanics, including a carbon-fibre driveshaft. In addition, its track width has increased by 2.9 cm (1.1 in) in the rear and 5.4 cm (2.1 in) in the front. It has a boot capacity of 525 L (18.5 cu ft). The boot sill is aligned with the rear bumper and cargo does not need to be lifted over a lip when being removed. There are large vehicle blind spots behind the car's pillars. It has a 50/50 weight distribution and a drag coefficient of 0.32 (Cd). Euro NCAP classify it as a large off-road car.
In order to reduce the weight of the car, aluminium is used for body panels, as well as for mechanical parts such as the suspension, brakes, and engine. The suspension, called AlfaLink, implements double wishbones in the front, and an aluminium multi-link configuration in the rear. The springs are longer than those in the Giulia, but stiffer to account for the extra weight and ride height. The driver sits nearly 20 cm (7.9 in) higher from the road than in the Giulia. The suspension is tuned for improved handling and driving dynamics, which can compromise ride quality if optional larger-diameter wheels are fitted.
Rear-wheel drive as standard, the Stelvio can be optioned with an Alfa Romeo "Q4" all-wheel drive system, which can send up to 50% of power to the front in low-grip conditions. The Stelvio weighs 1,660 kg (3,660 lb) with all fluids, 145 kg (320 lb) less than an equivalent BMW X3 and 110 kg (243 lb) less than a four-cylinder Porsche Macan. The car's braking system is designed to be less-susceptible to brake fade, which can take time for unfamiliar drivers to get used to.
All models feature an 8.8-inch infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto as standard, while small tweaks have been made throughout the ranges.

My vehicle is available to the NHTSA upon request. On each occasion, except one, I was fortunate to be in the right hand lane and was able to pull over onto the shoulder before any could hit me. On [XXX] , near Richards, there was no shoulder and I was stopped within the single lane of westbound traffic. I was fortunate that traffic was light at that time and that it was daylight. After the first two incidents in 2023, I took it to Northside Imports in Spring, Texas (XXX) They were unable to duplicate the problem or determine what was the cause. On [XXX], I took the car back to Northside Imports and they determined that it needed a new fuel pump, seal and control module. (I was informed on Friday, [XXX] that the parts have been received and can be installed on [XXX].) Between the time that the fault was identified and the time the parts were available the car has failed on the highway twice, once on [XXX] and once on [XXX] . The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone but Northside Imports in Spring, Texas. There were no warnings in advance of the shutdown. I was able to restart the vehicle after a short period of time after disconnecting the battery. Each time, it restarted in "limp" mode. - Summary: I was in the process of merging on the the express way when my vehicle threw a warning light, "service electronic throttle control" along with a "service engine" message and a check engine light. The vehicle went into a "limp" and had extremely poor acceleration, I was almost rear ended because the vehicle couldn't reach highways speeds fast enough. The vehicle has not yet been inspected my the manufacturer but I did some research on this issue and found it to be alarmingly common. There seems to be no clear answer to the reason for this and no sure repairs for the problem. This poses a safety risk to drivers as this problem seems to happen while accelerating. It can be dangerous if someone on the expressway is attempting to merge into 60mph traffic and hit "limp mode" at roughly 30. I believe an investigation need to be conducted regarding this followed by a recall of the affected part.

Vehicle year: 2021
I was looking to switch from a turbo sedan to an SUV for the added height, but I didn't want the sluggish performance or soccer mom feel of a typical bulky SUV. The Stelvio fits the bill for me perfectly! It's a beautiful SUV with Italian styling that prioritizes handling and power over storage space and gadgets. There is a bit of a learning curve, but after a month, I've adjusted and no longer find the brakes to be grabby. The infotainment controls took some getting used to, but now I actually prefer the Stelvio's controls since they are easier to reach and the screen isn't covered with fingerprints. Android Auto works smoothly, and I use Waze for navigation. The backup screen is my only real complaint, but it's a minor issue. To date, I haven't had any quality issues with my Stelvio, but I've only had it for a month. It's a kick to drive, especially when you can get out on the open road and really let the Stelvio run wild. It corners better than almost any vehicle I've ever owned. Right now, the Stelvio is a great value since it's often overlooked in the very crowded luxury small SUV segment. As it becomes more popular, I would expect dealers to offer less of a discount off the MSRP. The Stelvio is an unusual SUV, so you don't see it everywhere, but that's the point. If you listen to the beat of your own drum and want performance and style, the Stelvio is definitely worth considering!

Vehicle year: 2024
I recently replaced my 2019 Kia Stinger GT with the Stelvio. Before that, I had driven a 2011 Audi S4, Volvo S60R, and Subaru Legacy GT. As someone who had never owned an SUV before and was transitioning to a 4-Cylinder, I was a bit hesitant. However, I wanted something that would stand out from the crowd (as opposed to the X3, Q5, and CX-5, which are a dime a dozen) and handle well. Despite coming from much lower vehicles, I was pleasantly surprised by how much better the Stelvio handles and drives - it literally feels like it's on rails. And yet, you don't sacrifice ride-quality - on smooth roads, it glides. If you're looking for a tech-laden vehicle that basically drives itself, this may not be the car for you. However, if you're looking for a driver's car in the segment, look no further - I find myself making excuses just to get out and hit the road. Unlike the competition, this car actually has character and charm that's hard to find in new vehicles. Of course, there are a few minor issues - the dealer network is small, there's no sunglass holder, the panic button on the key is too large (you can hit it by accident a lot), the base seats are too flat, the fit and finish could be better, CarPlay is a little slow, and the sound system is meh. But all of these nuances disappear once you get behind the wheel.

I've had the car for two weeks now and I am very satisfied with it. It is a great looking car with excellent handling. The interior is not cluttered with unnecessary buttons and everything is logically laid out. The seats are comfortable and the ride is smooth. With the turn of a knob, the ride can be transformed into a sporty one. However, there are a few minor issues. The radio only has 7 presets, which is less than my previous car. Additionally, the voice activation does not work for the phone and the early batches of Stelvios do not come equipped with Apply Play or Android. All phone calls have to be made manually, which can be inconvenient. I contacted Alfa Romeo to inquire about the availability of the software and whether it could be downloaded onto my car, but they were unsure. The limited view out of the back is to be expected due to the car's sleek design, but it is important to consider the safety package. The dashboard view of the backup camera could be larger and brighter. Overall, I am very happy with this SUV.

Handling is excellent - this is what makes me choose this over the 911 parked in my garage next to it 4 times out of 5. Turbo 4 is great, though it really would be better with a manual gearbox. Rear legroom is tight, but good for kids or adults on short rides. Ti sport is nicely kitted out, the way to go.

The Stelvio is an exceptional vehicle with a well-balanced 50/50 weight distribution. Its handling is extremely competent in all conditions that New England can throw at it. The Q4 all-wheel system is seamless and complements this primarily rear-wheel-drive platform. The Stelvio is a great city vehicle due to its responsive, stable handling, great visibility, and strong powertrain. The 8-speed ZF transmission complements the 2.0-liter turbo, ensuring that it is never left flat-footed in a traffic situation where horsepower and torque are needed. The HVAC system heats and cools the cabin very well with minimal fan noise. The heated seats and steering wheel are especially welcoming on a 10-degree morning! The body panels are made of aluminum, bonded to a high-strength steel inner structure, ensuring that there are no creaks, groans, or flex. It has a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, making it as safe as a vault! Reliability has been perfect, with zero issues in 6,000 miles of New England winter and spring roads. I drove all of the competitors (BMW, Audi, Acura, Volvo), but I saw no reason to buy any one of them. The Stelvio drives that much better and has a 110-year history of handling superiority and powertrain excellence to support that. What more can I say? It's an exceptional vehicle that I highly recommend!

My wife and I purchased this car just over a year ago, but unfortunately, we have decided to part ways with it sooner than expected. As with any car, there are both positives and negatives to consider. In our case, the negatives have outweighed the positives. Some of the issues we have experienced include frequent dashboard glitches, a jumpy acceleration, and a concerning auto start/stop feature. However, we do appreciate the car's precision steering, great performance, smooth transmission, and stylish design. While we believe that Alfa has the potential to create a fantastic product, we have concerns about the vehicle's longevity. We hope that Alfa will continue to improve and gain experience in the automotive market. Despite our personal experience, we acknowledge that other reviews have been positive, and we wish the best for Alfa's future success.

The throttle and check engine lights illuminated, causing a dangerous situation while merging onto a busy highway. Despite bringing the vehicle in for repair and having the air filter replaced, the issue persisted and it took six weeks for the dealer to attempt a fix. Unfortunately, the problem recurred within 15 minutes of leaving the dealer. The vehicle is currently still at the dealer and there has been no response from Alpha main office, despite several unanswered complaints.

This vehicle has been extremely unreliable and the service has been poor. The check engine light has been on since the first day of ownership and the dealers have been unable to provide a loaner or service for over two weeks. Despite dropping off the vehicle for service and Ubering home, it has been three weeks and the car is still not repaired. The car has spent more time in service than in my driveway, and I have only owned it for less than 45 days. The scripted 'Alfa-Care' hotline has been unapologetic and uncaring. I am beginning a lemon-law claim. This poor service experience is unacceptable, especially considering the high price of nearly $100k.

I purchased a 2018 Stelvio and unfortunately experienced some issues. The seal around the third rear brake light peeled out and there were four recalls. Additionally, the start/stop feature, passenger seat motor, and sunroof stopped working. Thankfully, the sunroof was stuck in the closed position. After a year and a half, there was another recall and unfortunately, the dealership I went to shut down. This caused some issues with registering my vehicle, but after raising my concerns with Alfa, they agreed to pick up and transport my vehicle to the nearest dealership 80 miles away in Livermore. Although there were some challenges, I am grateful for the support I received from Alfa.

I've been driving my Stelvio since June and it's been a fantastic experience. The engine, transmission, and steering are all top-notch. However, I do have to admit that the interior and technology could use some improvement. The seats have limited positions, which can make long drives uncomfortable. In comparison, my wife's F-Pace has a much more sophisticated cabin (although it's still not the best in class). The Stelvio's stereo upgrade (Harmon) is only average, which is a bit disappointing. I was initially told by my local dealer that an infotainment upgrade was imminent, but it doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon. Overall, if you're looking for a fun and unique driving experience, the Stelvio definitely delivers. However, if you prioritize high-end comfort, sophistication, and refinement, this might not be the best fit for you.
