2014 Tesla Model s problems
The Tesla Model S is a battery electric executive car with a liftback body style built by Tesla, Inc. since 2012. The Model S features a battery-powered dual-motor, all-wheel drive layout, although earlier versions featured a rear-motor and rear-wheel drive layout.
Development of the Model S began prior to 2007, under the codename "WhiteStar". The Model S was officially announced on June 30, 2008, and a prototype vehicle was unveiled in March 2009. The Model S debuted on June 22, 2012. A revised, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version, known as the 60D, debuted on October 9, 2014. The 60D was followed by the 70D, which made dual-motor and all-wheel drive the standard, followed by the 85D, P85D, and P90D. Along with these updates, Tesla offered the Autopilot driving assistance system. The first major design refresh came in April 2016 when the Model S was updated with a new front hood design. In October of the same year, hardware became standard that supports Tesla's Full Self Driving (FSD) capability. As part of the update, integrated standard cameras around the car were added. In February 2017 the Tesla Model S P100D debuted, which included a revised motor and was the first electric vehicle to have an EPA estimated range exceeding 300 miles (483 km). The second major design refresh, codenamed "Palladium", was introduced in June 2021, offering a new "Plaid" performance model, along with a revised interior, powertrain, and suspension.
The Model S became the first electric car to top the monthly new-car-sales ranking in any country, leading twice in Norway, in September and December 2013 and in Denmark in December 2015. Sales passed 250,000 units in September 2018. The Model S was the top-selling plug-in electric car worldwide in 2015 and 2016, although it was later surpassed by the Model 3. Upon its release, the Model S received positive reviews, with praise for its acceleration and range, although initial models received criticism for their high cost and braking issues.

This is put my safety at risk because its very dangerous for a door to open while driving at any speed, and if it happens to a back door items in my back seat could fall out causing a very serious accident. When the problem first started I paid to have a new door handle put in but it did not fix the problem, even after the repair the door would sometimes not close stay closed properly and the tech said he wasn't sure because he never seen a door not close every time, after looking online many people have had the same issues, I again reported this to Tesla and they set up an appointment with me to fix the door handle. I have been dealing with this issue for 6 months now. I would say the vehicle was inspected by my mobile tech, but he advised he never seen anything the issue with the door not closing or staying closed every time, said he would ask around and get back to me, I was told by another rep I had to pay for a new latch, but they couldn't confirm if this is the issue. There are only warning messages when the door opens while driving, also the door will open even if it shows its locked.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-11

- Summary: My 2014 P85D model S electric rear motor failed. I heard a loud noise coming from it so I took it in to Tesla and they agreed the motor was failing and needed to be replaced, Cost $6,582.04. If I had driven the car and the motor seized up it while on the highway it would have been catastrophic. I would have lost control as the motor froze the rear wheel. Tesla knows of this problem, has replaced many of them, unfortunately post warranty. They know the seals leak and coolant leaks into the motor and causes the motor to fail. They have made a number of design changes including the latest where they eliminate a cooling branch going through the motor. Prior to this change none of the fixes have eliminated the problem.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-14

- Summary: While driving, my back wheel fell off. I had the car in for suspension work twice in Q4 2023, and then on March 7, 2024 my back wheel fell off. When speaking with Tesla, they said that this sometimes happens and they have seen this issue before. The also told me that they think it only happens at low speeds, but I have found articles where people were on the highway and their wheel fell off. China has made Tesla do a recall for suspension and wheel issues, why haven't we? I now have had my vehicles suspension worked on at least 4 times, this is dangerous and scary.

- Summary: Our vehicle has just over 100k miles, and we have had the front control arms replaced twice. Tesla says that we have to keep replacing because it's a safety issue, but refuses to take ownership of the fact that the control arms should not fail this frequently. In China, Tesla is doing recalls for this part and there is a class action lawsuit in the US. However, Tesla has told me that I need to keep replacing this parts because if they fail then the car could crash.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-29
- VIN: 5YJSA1H19EF
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The original motor on Tesla Model S vehicles between 2012-2019 has a reputation of leaking coolant inside the drive train and therefore locking up the motor that stops all operations of the vehicle. This has already happened twice with an average life expectance of 40-60k miles. I was just informed that Tesla has finally created a version of this motor that prevents coolant leaks on the latest revision of their motor (Part# 1002633-00-U) and would like to see a recall with this long needed fix. I currently have a remanufactured motor that will end up locking up eventually and would like to get ahead of this if at all possible.
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-02
- VIN: 5YJSA1H12EF
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: Our right rear lower control arm broke off at the outer end. The wheel and hub dropped and cambered out away from the vehicle and the vehicle could not be driven. Fortunately this occurred entering our driveway at low speed. The car was taken to Tesla and we believe should have been repaired under service bulletin [XXX] detailing this exact issue. However, they are presenting a bill for about $7000. claiming our VIN is not within this bulletin. We note that our car was purchased in January 2014 but also the bulletin says approximate. We also believe NTSHA has been made aware of this issue but has failed to issue a recall. This is a serious safety issue! At freeway speeds this could have caused a total loss of control and a serious crash in our opinion. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-08
- VIN: 5YJSA1H15EF
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Tesla has a Salvage Vehicle policy - when a vehicle has been branded as salvaged, regardless of future repairs, they will remotely disable the vehicle's ability to DC Fast Charge and require a DC System Inspection and DC Fast Charging Inspection at a cost of $870 that can only be performed by Tesla in order to service the vehicle and restore the DC Fast Charging feature. In my case Telsa has refused to perform the eMMC recall using the fact that I have not had the DC System Inspection service performed as their basis for refusing to perform the recall. Please seek an injunction against Tesla to ban them from using any pre-conditions such as first requiring a DC System Inspection in order to perform any recalls. Thank you.

I received my Tesla85 a month ago and have some concerns about the design, particularly the large touch screen. I would be interested to know the figures on how many Tesla Model S cars have been involved in accidents, as I believe it may be higher than average. I have reached out to Tesla with my concerns on four separate occasions, but unfortunately have not received a response. As a customer, I was hoping for better service, especially considering the high cost of $130,000 in Australia. It will be interesting to see if Tesla continues with this touch screen design, but if safety authorities identify it as a design flaw, it could result in a costly recall. As of 2017, I still believe there are flaws in the design.

I've had the opportunity to drive a Tesla Model S on and off for a few weeks now, as my company received one as part of an investor PR campaign. While there are a few concerns that I have noticed, such as the car's weight potentially causing issues with the suspension and tires on bumpy, pot-holed roads, overall it has been an interesting experience. The interior design is unique and cool, although there are some areas where it could be improved. One thing to note is that the large touchscreen control center can be a bit distracting while driving, as there are no buttons or knobs to use. It's important to keep your eyes on the road! It's worth noting that Tesla is primarily a stock play, rather than a traditional car company. The hype surrounding the brand is carefully orchestrated to build market cap, so it's important to approach any investment with caution and assume that they have a team of experts working behind the scenes.
